Don’t bet, tardy payers and immersed in our culture

1179

Quick question for you.  Which Scottish team has won their last four home games, scoring 13 goals in the process?  St Mirren are on a run of form at home.  One of those wins was against Second Division opposition, but remember, this season, Second Division teams are on a par with AC Milan in the early 90s.

Ross County scored four at St Mirren Park but St Mirren scored five, while Hearts were despatched 2-0.  This is a team with good home form who kept their squad in place over the international break.  My best advice to you is to avoid betting on this one.

Many clubs have trouble paying their bills but the problem with Hearts and their regular tardiness when it comes to wages, evident again this month, appears to be different.  Hearts cash balances will have peaked weeks, possibly months, ago.  From now on they will be eating into ‘reserves’, or more likely, accruing additional debt at their owner’s bank.  The club have been here many times before and Vlad has dipped into the equivalent of his commercial pocket to avoid an insolvency event but I’ve always found it curious why he didn’t do so on time.  It’s not as though anyone can be surprised pay day is coming.

As such, there appears to be a degree of control over late payment.  The money is always provided but not before pain is passed down from owner to earners, which is a bit curious.

For all his faults, and they are many, Romanov and other shareholders in Ukio Bankas have ‘invested’ countless millions in Hearts, money they are unlikely to get back with the residential property market so depressed.  They have also not exposed the club to outrageous fortune – the overwhelming majority of debt is owed to the bank itself, balances at HMRC and other creditors are low, and they pay their football debts.  This means that if Hearts go into administration, the route back through a CVA would be clear.  The only serious losers would be staff made redundant, while Ukio would face a write-off, perhaps already acknowledged internally.

I was surprised at the news Danny McGrain was appointed first team coach yesterday but also delighted.  Danny’s was not a name mentioned for the position when Alan Thompson left the club but he is immersed in the fabric and culture of our club.  ‘In the days of changing ways’ a strong thread of continuity is an invaluable asset in ensuring the new generations acquire the important elements of our identity.

We are a club in touch with all that is important.

  1. Jmccormick – I will ask you what I ask others. How can I trust Scotland after they passed the political sectarian law earlier this year? What was that about?

If you don’t mind me butting in, fanadpatriot didn’t say he/she knows “more bigots than sensible people”. In answer to your final point, the actual important things you list will not be given priority over the vote counting imo, hence the concerns (amongst a ton of others) many rightly have about the SNP being given complete control of this country. I’m for independence, but not when its the SNP establishing it. They’re too sleekit.

He is happy with the things generally. Miku and Lassad settling in well, Miku taking a bit longer but once he is, he said he’ll be player. Lassad in contention for tomorrow. Anthony Stokes, he expects to be back in December. Important time for him as his contract expires at end of season. I asked him about three of them.

Also asked him about how he felt about Sammi, citing his two goals at ibrox and the fact that he has now scored two big goals in Russia. He replied you summed it up perfectly, he is a big game player. He agrees that he has found his position. The coaching staff picked up on a few things including things they liked when he plays for Greece and have worked with him.

  10. I was at that game when disaster struck on Stairway 13, I was at the opposite end of the ground and always held back from leaving the ground as it was a very dangerous ground to visit, steep slopes all around and very dangerous for all supporters ,us & them.

While we waited on the ground emptying, you could hear the sound of sirens all around, our first thoughts were that a big fight had happened at the end of the game, and at the Rangers end of the ground.

Little did we know of the devastation at the other end of the ground, only when we got outside and asked what the commotion was, did we discover that there had been an accident at the other end, We headed home, when we got indoors the relief on my mother’s face when she saw two of her sons coming through the door was a sight to behold.

You can imagine now what it must have been like. wall to wall coverage of news, coming from the radio or T/V, but no information of what had happened. Families up and down the land waiting on their loved ones popping their head round the door would be relief beyond believe for thousands of families all over the Country, and beyond. A very sad day for Scotland.

Health and Safety wasn’t around in those days, and if it had been, Ibrox Stadium wouldn’t have passed muster, The guy’s that I went to the games with loved and hated Ibrox Park, Loved it because we were watching Celtic, Hated it, because we all knew that it was an accident about to happen, Hence the reason we allowed others to leave before we ventured into the mass. The designer of that Park should have been Jailed for the Manslaughter of human life, We all knew it was a dangerous Stadium long before the accident happened.

Regarding a song being sung about the Ibrox Disaster, There was one, but I’m sure it was the Aberdeen fans who sung it. I never heard a song being sung in full voice at Celtic Games, there are too many decent Celtic Fans that wouldn’t allow the good name of Celtic to be besmirched by singing a song, Glorifying such a disaster.

It could easily have happened at the Celtic end at Ibrox. There but for the grace of god go I.

  18. jmccormick @ 18:11

I don’t see that implication at all amigo. Just a an assertion (one I agree with, and should be kept in mind) that a very large proportion of the Scottish people are against Catholic schools. It’s not difficult to see why, when you’re aware as we are here of how the Scottish meeja manipulate thinking.

If you do a survey of your own friends and colleagues here, you will find they are overwhelmingly opposed to Catholic schooling as they meeja has convinced them that it is the cause of all of Scotland’s “sectarian” problems, which should then justify fanadpatriot’s position I think.

So, when you bear that in mind, its difficult not to imagine the SNP considering this crowd-pleasing gesture under the guise that they would be diverting finance to what they will label “equal schooling”. This is how twisted Scottish political thinking has been for some time. The SNP would be very dangerous in such a volatile situation imo. The evidence is already there – you don’t need me to list it I’m sure, but just in case: Alex’s unusual relationship with Minty, and the curious land deals, including the purchase of Waverlely Centre for £1; the public relations announcement by Minty that he suddenly supported the SNP despite his wee knighthood; the “bill” etc etc.

15 yrs ago, Salmond had my full support. Now he scares the hell out of me. This situation also reminds me of debates at school about why learning history was important. Because it keeps repeating itself.

Bollocks – another long post ! Apols, I do go on :((

  19. Right now the SNP are all about popularist policies. There is a perception among the widespread population that football is mired in sectarianism. So the SNP bring in a bill so they can say they addressed the issue. Despite the fact that they know that existing laws cover all the prosecutable offenses it covers and are, as far as I recall, easier charges to use with success.

I’m not sure if any stats are out yet but I’ll be surprised if the new law has made a significant impact and is it not in a period of review? Don’t be surprised if its quietly dropped.

  21. I’m opposed to Catholic schooling. I’m opposed to all faith based schooling from the public purse. Let’s not kid ourselves that standard comps are free from it either. Mine had regular visits from the CoS minister but not the local priest.

Thanks for the long reply, missed my cartoons now!

We will differ on our interpretation of another ones comments, fair enough, always a truth that it`s not what we say ,it is what others hear.

I do know that an underclass would flock to the “populist” notion of state schools for all, but I do not believe that it would be a winning move by any party. just my opinion.

Now your points re Slippery Salmond is well made, but have politicians and wealthy business men not always been in cahoots? Sorry but that is what has happened and will always happen, shamefully so.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they drop that law too. It was stupid, sped through, evening things up for the sake of evening things up because of a press outcry after ONE game where rangers players and management lost the plot.

Politicians in general should keep out of football but in Scotland they certainly should.

The law has done more harm than good and I don’t even know if it has been used since.

We know the only Sectarian arrests or offensive behaviour at football arrests this season which have been reported in the press have come at games involving Sevco. I’m not saying other folk haven’t been lifted at Celtic games or any other games but there haven’t been any big reports into that.

I also don’t know if the Sevco fans who were lifted were lifted for Sectarianism or Offensive behaviour or if it is all under one umbrella now.

The previous legislation that was brought in to combat Sectarianism was a failure as well for me because after its inception The Famine song came along and BBC Documentaries showed Cops not doing much at games to remove people singing what were clearly Sectarian songs.

The SNP tried for a one size fits all which it cannot do because there is no finite amount of behaviour which can be classified as offensive. Until there is proper debate and consensus reached on the songs/behaviour debate while involving the people in the midst of it we’ll get nonsense like that last Bill.
