Don’t bet, tardy payers and immersed in our culture

1179

Quick question for you.  Which Scottish team has won their last four home games, scoring 13 goals in the process?  St Mirren are on a run of form at home.  One of those wins was against Second Division opposition, but remember, this season, Second Division teams are on a par with AC Milan in the early 90s.

Ross County scored four at St Mirren Park but St Mirren scored five, while Hearts were despatched 2-0.  This is a team with good home form who kept their squad in place over the international break.  My best advice to you is to avoid betting on this one.

Many clubs have trouble paying their bills but the problem with Hearts and their regular tardiness when it comes to wages, evident again this month, appears to be different.  Hearts cash balances will have peaked weeks, possibly months, ago.  From now on they will be eating into ‘reserves’, or more likely, accruing additional debt at their owner’s bank.  The club have been here many times before and Vlad has dipped into the equivalent of his commercial pocket to avoid an insolvency event but I’ve always found it curious why he didn’t do so on time.  It’s not as though anyone can be surprised pay day is coming.

As such, there appears to be a degree of control over late payment.  The money is always provided but not before pain is passed down from owner to earners, which is a bit curious.

For all his faults, and they are many, Romanov and other shareholders in Ukio Bankas have ‘invested’ countless millions in Hearts, money they are unlikely to get back with the residential property market so depressed.  They have also not exposed the club to outrageous fortune – the overwhelming majority of debt is owed to the bank itself, balances at HMRC and other creditors are low, and they pay their football debts.  This means that if Hearts go into administration, the route back through a CVA would be clear.  The only serious losers would be staff made redundant, while Ukio would face a write-off, perhaps already acknowledged internally.

I was surprised at the news Danny McGrain was appointed first team coach yesterday but also delighted.  Danny’s was not a name mentioned for the position when Alan Thompson left the club but he is immersed in the fabric and culture of our club.  ‘In the days of changing ways’ a strong thread of continuity is an invaluable asset in ensuring the new generations acquire the important elements of our identity.

We are a club in touch with all that is important.

  2. Why the hell could could they not release the results of the FTT at the beginning of the international break?

We have had two weeks of rank boredom, and just as we refocus on tomorrow’s game we get information and emotional overload.

It’s at times like today that my nephrologist worries about my alcohol intake. The temptation to indulge in the best of Scottish spirits is almost overwhelming.

Can anyone check if the midnight oil is burning at Media House? Forests will be trembling, wires will be humming and electrons will be quivering as spins and slants are composed for a gullible zombie population. Wee Darrel and Jabba will have sleepless nights as they rehearse their positions.

I predict a run on Kleenex at Asda. Not for journos or their captive audience but for Celtic fans as they wipe away their tears of laughter.

We have a membe( a Mexican guy whom we introduced to Celtic) of the Los Angeles CSC who is the coach of Santa Monica High School Soccer team. he is going to be in Scotland with his wife when we play Barca at Parkhead. If anyone hears of 2 tickets becoming available( I know, long shot) I would love to get them for him, so he can see for himself what we have been telling him for years, there is no other place in the world that has an atmosphere like Celtic Park on a European game Night.

  10. Seems like The Endgame is being heralded? Or at least the beginning of it…

There are a few themes of particular interest to me in the final few moves of what seems to be, with the greatest respect to those who live in the midst of it, a parochial chess game. Personally, I believe it is more than that.

How will the Mint, a Knight of the Realm, be dealt with? Not by the pawns of the SMSM, but by the Establishment?

How will the Pawns of the SMSM spin the actions of The Mints supporting cast? How will they deal with each other? Circling the wagons of deflection?

When you step back however… There is the very real implication that what is happening is not some simple parochial sporting screw up…

Eventually some may recognize this as more than a simply Scottish problem….

The Scottish banking and priviliged brotherhood were caught naked and short due, primarily to financial events in the fall of 2008. Events that have yet to reach their own Endgame.

But what of The Scottish Establishment? The crumbling center of empire? An fault line related to other financial and political paradigm shifts that have shook the world over the last eleven years…?

    RBS? Royal Bull Shit?

    Or just Fitba?

    I think most certainly not…

Wow, I’ve woken up to the fact that the ftt decision is in and it looks live they have lost.

We wait to see the details in the report but it removes any doubt about their cheating and leaves the SFA with no wriggle room when it comes to title stripping. We expected all that.

But…….now for BDO to “step up and play”. Find the individuals responsible and prosecute them. The Rangers name will be forever associated with sporting and financial cheating.

We live in rare ole times. This Barca trip is going to be something else.

  14. Well said Charlie time the MSM talked up Scotlands successes

We’re flying the flag! Celtic success can boost country, insists Mulgrew

    By John Greechan

    PUBLISHED:00:40, 20 October 2012| UPDATED:00:44, 20 October 2012

Charlie Mulgrew has insisted that Celtic are ready to fly the flag for Scottish football — by progressing to the Champions League knock-out stages.

At the end of a miserable week for the national game, with the prospect of our earliest ever World Cup elimination provoking a bout of countrywide soul-searching, the Scotland international said Celtic’s success represented a major bonus.

‘It is good that we are doing well for Scottish football,’ said Mulgrew, pointing to Celtic’s first ever away victory in the Champions League proper, the recent 3-2 win over Spartak Moscow as evidence of success.

‘Of course it reflects well, doing things like getting the win in Moscow — it means we’re flying the flag for Scottish football.

‘It would give the game a shot in the arm, definitely, to reach the last 16.

Even us qualifying for the Champions League was a boost — getting through two rounds was great for Scottish football.

‘But now that we’re here, we don’t just want to make up the numbers. We want to compete, get to the last 16 and go as far as we can.

‘The belief is there, especially with having picked up three points in Moscow. So we need to combine that form with our domestic priorities.’

Barcelona in the Nou Camp on Tuesday night is the next challenge for Celtic.

‘It would be a disappointment not to make the last 16 now, having put

ourselves in this position,’ said Mulgrew.

‘But we’re not in the competition to make up the numbers.’

  15. Well, my first hangover free Saturday in about 4 years beckons! Wonder what it will be like.

    Good morning CQNers,

It’s quite something that it’s the capitalist vultures that are picking over the bones of the defunct Rangers club, not one Ranger’s man stepped forward to put in any money to save their club.

Murray searched and searched but couldn’t find a Rangers man to take over the club. Eventually he came up with Craigy White, a fake in everything he did, he is no more a Rangers fan than you or I, he was a Rangers fan in the same way as he was a billionaire, it suited his objective at the time.

    Where was their Fergus?

The great and good of Scottish society have looked on with horror as the full picture of Ranger’s demise emerged, but it was too damaged for them to save, they couldn’t possibly be associated with a club that defrauded Her Glorious Majesty’s tax inspectors and the country itself. They don’t need the FTT to tell them the extent of the embarrassment, they already know.

The best efforts of Media House will not be able to deflect the criticism when the FTT is published and David Murray will be isolated, he’ll be hung out to dry, and it’ll be him and not Craigy who’ll become the magnate for the contagion and rather than the succulent lamb, he’ll become the sacrificial lamb.

Scotland needs an antidote to the immigrant’s club that is Celtic, it’s not part of the Scottish establishment, never was, never will be, and once the contagion has dissipated I’m sure we’ll see one of their own step forward to buy newco to oppose the interlopers, the immigrant’s club.

  18. Top of the morning to you all from Fife where the sun is coming over the hill, just like the taxman has, according to reports.

St Mirren will be awkward opponents but we should have enough class in the squad to beat them then it is on to Barcelona.

I see that the diversion of the discourse is in full swing from the MSM.

Talk about anything except the tax man will be the norm for the foreseeable future.
