Don’t bet, tardy payers and immersed in our culture

1179

Quick question for you.  Which Scottish team has won their last four home games, scoring 13 goals in the process?  St Mirren are on a run of form at home.  One of those wins was against Second Division opposition, but remember, this season, Second Division teams are on a par with AC Milan in the early 90s.

Ross County scored four at St Mirren Park but St Mirren scored five, while Hearts were despatched 2-0.  This is a team with good home form who kept their squad in place over the international break.  My best advice to you is to avoid betting on this one.

Many clubs have trouble paying their bills but the problem with Hearts and their regular tardiness when it comes to wages, evident again this month, appears to be different.  Hearts cash balances will have peaked weeks, possibly months, ago.  From now on they will be eating into ‘reserves’, or more likely, accruing additional debt at their owner’s bank.  The club have been here many times before and Vlad has dipped into the equivalent of his commercial pocket to avoid an insolvency event but I’ve always found it curious why he didn’t do so on time.  It’s not as though anyone can be surprised pay day is coming.

As such, there appears to be a degree of control over late payment.  The money is always provided but not before pain is passed down from owner to earners, which is a bit curious.

For all his faults, and they are many, Romanov and other shareholders in Ukio Bankas have ‘invested’ countless millions in Hearts, money they are unlikely to get back with the residential property market so depressed.  They have also not exposed the club to outrageous fortune – the overwhelming majority of debt is owed to the bank itself, balances at HMRC and other creditors are low, and they pay their football debts.  This means that if Hearts go into administration, the route back through a CVA would be clear.  The only serious losers would be staff made redundant, while Ukio would face a write-off, perhaps already acknowledged internally.

I was surprised at the news Danny McGrain was appointed first team coach yesterday but also delighted.  Danny’s was not a name mentioned for the position when Alan Thompson left the club but he is immersed in the fabric and culture of our club.  ‘In the days of changing ways’ a strong thread of continuity is an invaluable asset in ensuring the new generations acquire the important elements of our identity.

We are a club in touch with all that is important.

    Agreed

  2. I think having Danny in there with the Bhoys is great business – a true gent and a true legend. Well done the board!

Good morning Gents/ladies, it’s a long time since I posted [posted under VinBhoyTim previously] but I am a serial lurker, addicted to CQN, and once again, I’d like to thank you all for your excellent posts and information. As I said before, I’m at sea, [offshore China at the moment] and normally, this is my only way of getting proper Celtic minded views and updates of matches, etc. CQN is a lifeline for all matters Celtic to me, as our internet link via satellite is really slow [slower than dial-up internet days], so not possible for live feeds, or C67, etc.

I have a small problem and I was wondering if anyone on here could help or advise me. I was originally due home on 15th November, and before I came away on this trip, I booked for myself, my oldest daughter and oldest son to go on the Thomas Cook day-trip to Lisbon for the Benfica game on the 20th November. Unfortunately, my back-to-back has resigned from the company and I am now not going to get home till the first or second week in December [Hopefully I’ll be home in time for Moscow on 5th]. Although the booking is not yet confirmed – Thomas Cook informed me the trips wouldn’t be confirmed till after the Barcelona game, I sent an e-mail asking them if they could please change my name to my wife’s name so as she could accompany the weans on the trip in place of myself. They replied telling me that this could be done as long as she had a season card in her name and I sent them her Client Code… but she hasn’t, she uses mine to take the weans to CP [three out of the four of them have season cards] when I’m away working.

Does anybody know or can anybody think of any way around this? She’s going to go to the ticket office on Monday to try and sort it, but this seems a bit ridged to say the least! I’d be very disappointed if Celtic could not accommodate us with regards this matter, but not as disappointed as my son or daughter, who have already told all their pals that they are going to Lisbon. Any advise would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

So. We have four games over the next ten days. Opportunities beckon for the entire squad.

If Broony is out, it’s Vic and Efe inter-changing in the middle for me. Big Rogne joins Kelvin at the back. Joe on the left, with Chico at LB to allow Izzy to rest. Ask Miku to fill Kris’s role to give him time to get over his niggle. Hooper and Lassad up front, with Tony coming on later.

  19. Che,

I agree, we should move on. It is important, however, that we don’t allow anybody – so-called journalist, supposed Celtic supporter, or fan of another club – to accuse our support of wrongdoing. That is not to say that no individual has ever made any form of statement that they should not, but we cannot allow our entire support to be castigated unfairly.

I think that our willingness to challenge wrongs, even from among our own, is part of our collective identity. It may even explain why we still have a club to support.

  24. Just like to concur with some of the lads on here in regard to not hearing any songs about the Ibrox Disaster. I attended the game for the Ibrox Disaster if my mind serves me well it was a Celtic/Rangers select against Manchester United. Whatever I do remember watching Bobby Charlton at the game. And as for the Dalek thing, never heard that before either.

  26. Che.

Correct. But one or two on here might not support our Board in that. One or two seem to criticise our club, officials and supporters on a regular basis.

    HH

  27. ernie

Please do not post the lyrics.

I would not be able to recall what they were and have suppressed any memory I had from the few occasions I have heard it attempted. I have never been anywhere among Celtic fans where the song lasted more than a few lines anyway.

I think we have established that our support contains some bad elements and callous youths. There has never been widespread offensive singing and chanting at CP or away games but we have let ourselves down, on occasion.

There is no point in being hairshirt about this but we do need to acknowledge our failings and move on.
