Don’t mention the (boardroom) war

1004

With financial projections which provide entertaining reading, Rangers International promoted director, Walter Smith, to the position of chairman.  Smith immediately proclaimed, “Unity among the directors is vital”, although he was not asked about the forthcoming EGM where fellow directors Malcolm Murray and Chris Morgan face dismissal, while a third director, Charles Green, suggested he was going to resign by today, but has not got around to filling out the form yet (does this guy have ‘form’ when it comes to filling Companies House forms?)…..

They don’t do unity very well.

The only show in town is season ticket sales; for all clubs.  Maybe Celtic should appoint Martin O’Neill to the board for a few weeks to allow the newspapers to provide some bluster for those who more convinced by headlines and sound-bites than strategy?  Perhaps not.  Let’s stick to plan.

Lisbon Lion in Ayrshire, send reinforcements!

Willie Wallace will be at Waterstons in Ayr from 1-3pm this afternoon, get along (with camera) if you can.

Tomorrow Willie will be at the Celtic Superstore from 12-2pm before going to the Celtic Shop, Clydebank, from 3.30-5.30pm.  Get out and meet the man.

Great to meet so many people at Waterstons, Stirling, last night. The store sold out of Willie’s autobiography. There was actually a queue of people waiting to enter the store at one point.

Just a few days left on the auction for the signed Messi strip, a magnificent piece of football memorabilia. Keep an eye on it here.

Order your copy of Heart of a Lion, delivered before Father’s Day, below…..

  1. Corkcelt…

Have an affinity with the Hibs my Bro inlaw was part of that successful team and called me tonight to tell me ! It was only last night I watched a tape of the Waterford cup final showing my sons how good s player their uncle was ! We then watched the Borrusia Munchen Gladback game at flower Lodge featuring the current Bayern coach and the enigma that was Gunter Netzer ! Noel was indeed a fine player and an all time great Cork man ! Hail Hail m8 !

  2. Met Willie Wallace today and got ‘Heart of a Lion’ signed in Ayr today. A real gent and so far enjoying the book. Fully recommend that you get it bought.

PT – Denton hall was there management training centre.

Very nice place indeed, stayed a couple of times there.

CB – Brown lane west (beside Elland road) was where I attended as an apprentice. A magnificent training academy!

It was a company with a moral compass although of late has been dragged nearer the gutter by competing against other rogues in the industry.

I hope they maintain their ethics and come out of this recession a respected business by both employees and clients!

Many GREAT memories in Leeds from Celtic beating Barca, the old Rangers (now defunct).

Had a special night at Elland road and attended a Leeds v Cardiff encounter.

Cardiff GK (poss Phil Jones) scored the winner.

Great city with a big affiliation with Celtic.

  10. Mini-Quiz!

Offered to run one a few weeks back when CRC was galavanting – no takers. :-(

If enough of you are up for it (non-Celtic football questions) then I am happy to run it (when I finish my pizza).

Like you I’ve got a dodgy back!

Almost there with it as long as I don’t fall out of another taxi!! Long story!

Since CQN day in September 2011 at Leven, I’ve played 36 holes, but fingers crossed, almost there, just need to be patient a wee bit longer.

    How’s the leg?

    Fully rehabed I hope!

  12. Philbhoy

I was at the game too with my sister. Unforgetable but that article fills in any gaps. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

  13. A wee quiz of my own in a lead up to something I think worth debating over the close season.

Question is – Celtic have a stated vision.

    What is it?

  14. Auldheid, Philbhoy,

Brings back great of Euro 1970, although I was just going through the turnstile at Elland Road when we scored (a whole wheel came off our van on the way down as we were crossing the Shap)

In the paragraph above the photo of big Yogi’s goal it mentions ‘Frank’ Brogan. Wasn’t it Jim Brogan, his brother, who played that night. We had a real hard team playing, when you consider Jim, Davie Hay and Bertie Auld, spread around the field.

After that game I started making plans for the hitchhike to Milan and back. In those days you could only take 50 pounds (legally), with you when travelling overseas, and there were no ATMs. I started off with a lift from the DR out to the start of M74 at Calderpark Zoo. Tremendous ten days.

  15. Corkcelt….

If I tell you he was one of the Revie Leeds United boys from Castlemilk Glasgow and was voted as one of the all time great Cork footballers you might just get it IF NOT I’m back on the phone to Magazine road and shouting WHO ARE YE lol !

Sorry Corkcelt For the guessing game but this could get me some brownie points pal lol !

  16. ToffeeTim

Played with/ against all 3 of them – Eddie, Frank and not forgetting Jim?

    Loved it!

Went to the game with my Dad and brother in law (an Elgin City fan with a soft spot for the ‘Tic)

Half way up Aitkenhead road I said to my Dad, who had the tickets, I was going to buy ciggies from an ice cream van, to wait for me.

I never saw him again till I got home!!!

Our tickets were for the South Enclosure, below the main stand.

I managed to buy a 12 bob ticket for the North Enclosure, for 10 bob from a Leeds fan.

The rest is history, but a glorious history.

A history I was part of, that still brings me to tears on occasion.

A history, club and fans I am proud of and love, and will until the day I die.

I count my blessings every day that my old dad was a Tim.

    God bless him.
