Don’t mention the (boardroom) war

1004

With financial projections which provide entertaining reading, Rangers International promoted director, Walter Smith, to the position of chairman.  Smith immediately proclaimed, “Unity among the directors is vital”, although he was not asked about the forthcoming EGM where fellow directors Malcolm Murray and Chris Morgan face dismissal, while a third director, Charles Green, suggested he was going to resign by today, but has not got around to filling out the form yet (does this guy have ‘form’ when it comes to filling Companies House forms?)…..

They don’t do unity very well.

The only show in town is season ticket sales; for all clubs.  Maybe Celtic should appoint Martin O’Neill to the board for a few weeks to allow the newspapers to provide some bluster for those who more convinced by headlines and sound-bites than strategy?  Perhaps not.  Let’s stick to plan.

Lisbon Lion in Ayrshire, send reinforcements!

Willie Wallace will be at Waterstons in Ayr from 1-3pm this afternoon, get along (with camera) if you can.

Tomorrow Willie will be at the Celtic Superstore from 12-2pm before going to the Celtic Shop, Clydebank, from 3.30-5.30pm.  Get out and meet the man.

Great to meet so many people at Waterstons, Stirling, last night. The store sold out of Willie’s autobiography. There was actually a queue of people waiting to enter the store at one point.

Just a few days left on the auction for the signed Messi strip, a magnificent piece of football memorabilia. Keep an eye on it here.

Order your copy of Heart of a Lion, delivered before Father’s Day, below…..

  3. Woo-hoo, Mr POstman has just delivered my signed copy of Heart Of A Lion. Pity I need to now get Mrs B to hide it away as it’s earmarked for my holiday read in mid July.

On the subject of cheese…I need new golf shoes so any recommendations welcome. Your average golf course is 3 – 4 miles long but my meandering shots mean I usually walk at least 6 so might as well protect my feet properly.

  4. voguepunter – the field wasn’t that small but admittedly was probably less than 60. I’ll get t’official result later. You should try one of these some time…

  5. Granpaw Broon is a hypocrit. He stuck by the same agin players consistently when he was in charge of the national team. Very few younger players got the nod. He left then Bertie Vogts came in and had one hell of a job trying to put a team together.

Plus I don’t remember such furor when Kris Boyd took the huff with George Burley and said he wouldn’t play again plus Elbows McCulloch stating he wouldn’t play for Scotland again because he wanted to spend time with his family. Burley gets sacked and voila, McCulloch is back in a Scotland jersey. Hmmm.

If your feet give you gyp,you can get a lot of golf shoes now that are just like trainers, for aruond £50-60. If you’re really flush, Ecco shoes are the most comfortable around but they are about £ 150 ish, upwards.

As soon as Dundee utd accept a bid for Russell I’d expect celtic to match it. We’re holding off because utd will try & get more from us.

*Dunfermline offered 25 grand for Joe McBride, we offered 22,500 with less greengages than the pars. Guess who got him, it’s all up to the player even back then pre bozzie days.

  9. Am I missing something here? Kris Commons wasn’t in the Scotland squad that was announced before he made his decision to retire.

So why is it an issue that he’s having a close season holiday.

Rhetorical question…no need to explain really…..

  12. Message to Kris Commons and family:

Enjoy your holiday with the family and pay no attention to the ragtops, but you probably knew that by now.

The only support you need is from the great Celtic Family. Well done on a terrific double winning season. Now go and enjoy your holiday, you all deserve it!

FF reaction to report of Smudger’s bankruptcy:

“Donald Trump has been declared bankrupt 4 times, so its not necessarily the end of the world.”

    ——

“A mans financial difficulties are not in the public interest and certainly shouldn’t be front page.

    Disgusting.”

    ——

“There’s a difference between being bankrupt and having no money though tbf.

    Probably just protecting himself”

    ——

“The headline ‘Gordon has SFA’ is the only mention of the SFA on the front page.

    Therest is all about Rangers.

It makes me feel sick when I think about the way he was treated at the SFA and in the press.

And we know why that was now!

Because they had headhunted the perfect Fenian republican sympathiser to ‘do a job’ ”

    ——

“Good luck Smudger. An intelligent guy who was conned by that shyster Whyte.”

    ——

“think he spent a lot of money on his kids trying to make it in showbusiness.”

    ——

“this sums up Scottish fitba perfectly ,unbelievable that Regan is still in a job ,and we are paying for him”

    ——

“Without the facts it is hard to judge.

For all we know, maybe companies never paid him, which forced him into bankruptcy .”

[What kind of company would do that sort of thing?]

Paw Broon is a great guy for his stats.

The one that gets consistently ignored is that he wasn’t just national team manager, he was also national coach , responsible for overseeing player development.

The lack of quality young players in the 15 to 30 age group is his legacy from his period “on watch”.

He took over a country which regularly qualified for the big events, and his legacy is we have got nowhere near qualifying since.

Aside from a couple of half decent seasons with Motherwell, there is no Broon legacy.

Always amazes me he never gets held to account for his role as national coach.

  17. South Of Tunis on

Paw Broon described Duffield getting the CEO gig at the SFA as ” an inspired appointment “

  18. Broon doesn’t get criticised as it is often said on Shortbread and elsewhere he is a ‘great guy.’ We know that means he is part of the cosy establishment clique that have run Scottish football into the ground.

Lucky the club they detest is here to keep it on the map.
