Dougie Dougie and SFA cover-up

897

As a consequence of items relating to lies told by former referee Dougie McDonald’s no longer being found by searches through Google’s UK portal, while reaming available on the US portal, a suspicion arose that McDonald has used recent EU ruling to have these items expunged from the search engine.

During a Dundee United-Celtic game in 2010 McDonald awarded Celtic a penalty, then quickly changed his mind.  He lied to Neil Lennon after the game, and to the SFA supervisor about the circumstances which caused him to change his mind.  Celtic Quick News published an excerpt from the supervisor’s report, which was based on information McDonald subsequently admitted was false.

Having admitted to a lie, and under pressure from Celtic, McDonald resigned later in the year, but the greater stench was that of cover-up.  Having set the chain of events in motion, McDonald realised his error and admitted what he did to the SFA on the day of the game.

Having lied, he quickly came clean, but the actions of the SFA were far more serious.  With knowledge of the lie, the SFA were now in ownership of it.  They should have told McDonald to apologise to Neil Lennon and the referee supervisor.  Instead, they publicly reaffirmed the lie.

Even after the cover-up came to light, the SFA continued to close ranks on Celtic, faces were set to stone.  If Celtic didn’t know their place when it came to the dark arts of the SFA, they became acutely aware of it then.  Nothing could ever be the same again.

I have sympathy for McDonald.  He made a mistake but quickly did the right thing.  His name is tarnished largely as a consequence of the actions of his superiors.  If he called Neil Lennon the next day to extend the apology he gave to the SFA, the matter may have ended there and then.  He was not an innocent victim of an SFA cover-up, but he was a kind of victim.

The fight to change the SFA goes on.  Peter Lawwell is now on the board and some of the faces have moved on, but it is not a healthy body.  The vast majority of the 93 member clubs are not conspiratorial in nature and have no ill towards Celtic or any other club, but overhauling the labyrinth of committees, with vested interests which have been decades in the making, will look like pushing water uphill to anyone committed to reform.

Our interests are best served leaving the SFA behind, and we’re not alone in that.

Excitement builds as the 10-in-a-row CQN Charity Golf Day takes place tomorrow in Aberdour, with Frank McGarvey and Len Murray!

This year we are raising money for Glasgow the Caring City and The Cookiejar Foundation. We have two copies of this magnificent canvas, signed by Billy McNeill, one is available to the highest bidder on ebay here.

The other is available for raffle. Every donor to this JustGiving page gets an entry in the raffle. The minimum donation is £1, which we can all afford to participate in, although you can donate as much as you want. I’m not sure I agree, we are not really the movers and shakers on here but I’m glad that people will stick their neck out and say things, and I’m sure they are being truthful in their analysis of the situations now and the future and probably because of the Past, that most will disagree with, it is a lot harder to do this when things are going well, that takes a lot of courage, IMO.

The bottom line is we are never going to have a Utopian society in this World, it is impossible, despite what anyone tries to say. That individuality of the individual will become more powerful as Time progresses, IMO.

What was striking about it for me was the fact that the police horses didn’t give a fig for anyone’s safety. Even after it was clear that the worst was over and the fans had retreated, they still rode around at a gallop wielding their big white sticks. In particular they appeared to ride through or over some folk at the other end. I noticed that that was where the casualties were too.

    RIP Michael Moody.

Welcome Craig Gordon to this wonderful football club. I was impressed with his interview and he has been a top goalie in his time. If he stays fit and gets the opportunity, I hope not as a direct replacement for FF, then he could become a Celtic hero.

Although I have always tried to steer clear of elation/depression based on pre season results, I wuold be a liar if I said the evenings performance and result didn’t please me. A good performance in parts, particularly the 2nd half, where some of the young celts looked the most composed on the field. For me, special mention to Fasan, Findlay and McGregor. Also thought Pukki and Kayal were looking to impress. Time will tell who manages to cememnt a first team place but all in al, given early signs, I am a happy bhoy.

Best of luck to all the CQNrs at Aberdour in the morning.

RONNY Deila believes his squad are on the right track following Celtic’s victory over FK Krasnodar in the first pre-season match of 2014/15.

The Hoops triumphed 3-1 against the Russian side in the sweltering heat of northern Austria and the manager was pleased with the overall performance.

However, he told the official Celtic website that tonight’s game was just the first step to improvement and already knows where he wants to see the team develop.

“The match was good and we had a victory but perhaps it was too big when you look at the chances Krasnodar created but it’s good to have a good goal keeper, and tonight we showed we have at least two,” he said.

“We came across a very good team but tonight the boys worked hard and I am very pleased with the attitude, but of course, there are things to develop and we want to look at the physical shape of the team as well, which we want to improve.”

One of the manager’s main goals when he took the Celtic job was to develop a style of high pressing and high intensity attacking from his side, which he saw glimpses of tonight.

Celtic scored the first goal, through Anthony Stokes, within two minutes of the match kick off as as result of his players’ hounding of the opposition.

He hopes to see more of that in the coming games and added: “It was good to see the pressing but we need to have the ball more to attack.

“Sometimes you don’t have the ball though and you have to defend and I think we did that well. I saw some attacks in my style and spirit that I liked but we need more – we need that all the time and that will take some time.”

Celtic went into half time leading the game 2-1. The manager changed the entire team for the second half, giving many of the U20 squad a chance to shine.

Those youngsters met the opportunity head on, with Callum McGregor, Liam Henderson and Leo Fasan among the many standouts.

Ronny Deila had special praise for the Italian ‘keeper, who had an outstanding save late in the second half, and the other players outside of the first team.

“It’s very important to have such a depth of talent in the squad,” he added.

“Fasan works hard. He has been here since he was young and development can often take longer for goal keepers because you need more experience in the goal but he has come very far and Stevie (Woods) has done a fantastic job with him and it was very fun for him and great for me to see him perform so well.

“As we move forward we will look at things we want to do better. Already I know things I want to see more of.

“I love to win and hate to lose so it’s a good feeling but I want to win in a better way and I think that will come in time.”

    Thank You.

I have very high hopes for Celtic if the olde guard respond well to Ronny D and JC, Neil has left them a remarkable squad, IMO.

  20. A resurgent Kayal and Biton in midfield? ;))

Time will indeed Tell. Kayal obviously made a lot of errors when he was younger, desperate to get that big move to the Promised Land of the EPL.

It is likely to be one of the most exciting pre-seasons ever because there is every likelihood that Celtic are going to bring through their youngsters.

The away performance last season against Milan was exceptional, IMO and I am sure Ronny D will want to build on that.

Can’t say I fully understand the last sentence.

We’re all older and usually a lot different now.

Your Da didn’t set out to fight on the field at Hampden, I’m sure.

I was not a fighter but still got into scrapes (seemed the norm back then) and just learned to spot things early and plot an exit if I needed it.

Different world now and the internet allows us all to present ourselves anyway we like with little chance that we will be found out.

There’s all sorts on CQN, just a cross section of punters, but you know that.

Don’t really know why anyone on here would be ashamed of being part of that scene.

Celtic fans were just celebrating initially and the Police showed the how clueless they were. They saw the cup final as easy overtime and would all have been playing cards in a canteen room when this kicked off.

BTW I now have flash flood warnings for my area and I have to collect Mrs RWE from the airport in an hour. I’m taking some paddles and my speedos. :o)

  22. Incredible interview with Mr. Deila…….he speaks like Jock Stein did in the early days, talks attacking football and player development. That was Big Jock. Mr. Stein didn’t want to just win games, he wanted it done with style. Very refreshing stuff.

We may have a really great manager and a true Celt in John Collins (Sean Fallon) right alongside.
