Dougie Dougie and SFA cover-up

897

As a consequence of items relating to lies told by former referee Dougie McDonald’s no longer being found by searches through Google’s UK portal, while reaming available on the US portal, a suspicion arose that McDonald has used recent EU ruling to have these items expunged from the search engine.

During a Dundee United-Celtic game in 2010 McDonald awarded Celtic a penalty, then quickly changed his mind.  He lied to Neil Lennon after the game, and to the SFA supervisor about the circumstances which caused him to change his mind.  Celtic Quick News published an excerpt from the supervisor’s report, which was based on information McDonald subsequently admitted was false.

Having admitted to a lie, and under pressure from Celtic, McDonald resigned later in the year, but the greater stench was that of cover-up.  Having set the chain of events in motion, McDonald realised his error and admitted what he did to the SFA on the day of the game.

Having lied, he quickly came clean, but the actions of the SFA were far more serious.  With knowledge of the lie, the SFA were now in ownership of it.  They should have told McDonald to apologise to Neil Lennon and the referee supervisor.  Instead, they publicly reaffirmed the lie.

Even after the cover-up came to light, the SFA continued to close ranks on Celtic, faces were set to stone.  If Celtic didn’t know their place when it came to the dark arts of the SFA, they became acutely aware of it then.  Nothing could ever be the same again.

I have sympathy for McDonald.  He made a mistake but quickly did the right thing.  His name is tarnished largely as a consequence of the actions of his superiors.  If he called Neil Lennon the next day to extend the apology he gave to the SFA, the matter may have ended there and then.  He was not an innocent victim of an SFA cover-up, but he was a kind of victim.

The fight to change the SFA goes on.  Peter Lawwell is now on the board and some of the faces have moved on, but it is not a healthy body.  The vast majority of the 93 member clubs are not conspiratorial in nature and have no ill towards Celtic or any other club, but overhauling the labyrinth of committees, with vested interests which have been decades in the making, will look like pushing water uphill to anyone committed to reform.

Our interests are best served leaving the SFA behind, and we’re not alone in that.

Excitement builds as the 10-in-a-row CQN Charity Golf Day takes place tomorrow in Aberdour, with Frank McGarvey and Len Murray!

This year we are raising money for Glasgow the Caring City and The Cookiejar Foundation. We have two copies of this magnificent canvas, signed by Billy McNeill, one is available to the highest bidder on ebay here.

The other is available for raffle. Every donor to this JustGiving page gets an entry in the raffle. The minimum donation is £1, which we can all afford to participate in, although you can donate as much as you want. Our thanks to @BarryMcGonigle for the image on the canvas and OPG Graphics for creating the work.

Just read the latest piece on the hun 1872 fund folding penned by Richard Wilson on the BBC web site.

It contains the following by way of explanation…

“The UoF also announced the closure of their Ibrox 1972 season ticket fund.

The decision was taken after the club’s board refused to grant legal undertakings that Ibrox and Murray Park would not be used for loan security.”

Now call me pedantic – but surely the setting up of the fund was due to the reason cited above. However its closure is surely due to the incredible vanishing act of Mr. Dave King – something that isn’t mentioned at all in the article.

Badly written or a blatant misrepresentation of fact? – decide that for yourself. But either way, we are paying BBC license money for this drivel.

One question occured to me – I wonder if the 1872 fund was attracting any interest? And if so, who is the recipient?

Maybe you could use yer powers and, knock a few heads together in the

Celtic ‘bored’ room and, as Celtic are ‘thee’ biggest / major power at the minute

in Scottish football, get the wheels in motion to get SKY TV’s stranglehold of the

game with the pittance that they pay up here to clubs, to tell SKY TV that we’ll ‘not’

be playing at – dafty O’clock – to suit Murdoch?

Celtic could rattle the cage by making a stand and, offering the affected clubs losses by

providing some sort of – safety-net – payment structure until they are comfortable

without the SKY TV pittance and, use this period as a pivotal

point to, restructure the game up here. Ye know…stuff like….

No more dafty O’clock kick-off times.

    No Cup replays.

Cheaper standing areas to be built in all stadiums.

No drink to be sold in the stadiums.

Numbers back on the shorts, not the backs of jerseys.

Celtic’s away strip to be green & white or, white & green.

Bring back the Jungle for the Green Brigade.

It is indeed an excellent article, and I have no doubt that the millions run up in legal costs by the Murdoch empire are tax-deductible.

So we ALL paid for it,In much the same way as many of us have financed it over the years.

I disagree with you when you use the latter to infer we are complicit.

Those who are complicit are the ones who TOOK his money and patronage. And are still queuing up to do so.

A week old article, any reason for highlighting it now? You don’t work for B.T do you? ;))

I agree with you on the power of the Press Barons but most of us carry out, in our own way, our protests at the unjust treatment of others for financial/political advantage. I remember my first bite of a S.A. Granny Smith after years of personal boycott of all things S.A. Today i find myself rummaging thru’ Sainsbury’s Herbs looking for herbs not supplied via Israel’s Occupied Territories. Resistance comes in many forms and in all sizes.

    Som Mes Que ……

We are all complicit whether we like it or not in one way or another.

Many will not realise the full extent of what the Murdoch Corporation is about or how it goes about its business.

Many good people will depend on the wages it pays to put a roof over heads and food on the table.

Many businesses like Asda and Tesco will attempt to screw the banana picker, the grain farmer, the dairy farmer, and so on.

The difference for me is that ordinary people in this country have to eat, it is a life or death decision that is made every day millions of times over…. eating is essential.

We may not like everything about how is food is secured and sold in the supermarkets and shops throughout the world and you can try and change that and make it fairer bit by bit if possible.

However, the Murdoch Corporation is not a necessity and the use of its services are an indulgence…. something you do by pure choice not out of necessity.

You can easily access news, sport and entertainment without giving one thin dime to the Murdoch machine.

I chose not to a long time ago simply as a matter of principle …… a principle which I do not expect everyone to adhere to, sympathise with, agree with or follow.

However, I repeat again, if you know…. if you are told, how the Murdoch empire works, how it manipulates politicians, policies, people of so called influence and how it was at the very root of the invasion of privacy and using that knowledge to cajole, influence, dare I say it virtually blackmail people in to making decisions and carrying out acts which are for the benefit of the corporation’s high heid yins at the expense of what many consider to be decent values ……….. yet you fund the organisation by subscribing to it and paying your money to it…….. then yes you are complicit because you know or at least should know what you are funding, and the type of corporate mentality you are supporting with your cash.

I am well aware that other big businesses ( and indeed some smaller ones ) are far from exempt in relation to similar practices in different areas, but that still doesn’t make it right for me.

Personally, I avoid Tesco like the plague as it so happens and when it comes to supermarkets one is as bad as the other.

However, as I said above, Murdoch is not a supermarket, he does not sell food …….. his is an organisation that manipulates the truth for self gain. It interferes with Government, Society and Justice to further its own ends and it cannot do so without money.

I personally choose not to give it a single thin dime.

It is absolutely up to others to do what they so chose but in the end everyone gets what they paid for.
