Dougie Dougie and SFA cover-up

897

As a consequence of items relating to lies told by former referee Dougie McDonald’s no longer being found by searches through Google’s UK portal, while reaming available on the US portal, a suspicion arose that McDonald has used recent EU ruling to have these items expunged from the search engine.

During a Dundee United-Celtic game in 2010 McDonald awarded Celtic a penalty, then quickly changed his mind.  He lied to Neil Lennon after the game, and to the SFA supervisor about the circumstances which caused him to change his mind.  Celtic Quick News published an excerpt from the supervisor’s report, which was based on information McDonald subsequently admitted was false.

Having admitted to a lie, and under pressure from Celtic, McDonald resigned later in the year, but the greater stench was that of cover-up.  Having set the chain of events in motion, McDonald realised his error and admitted what he did to the SFA on the day of the game.

Having lied, he quickly came clean, but the actions of the SFA were far more serious.  With knowledge of the lie, the SFA were now in ownership of it.  They should have told McDonald to apologise to Neil Lennon and the referee supervisor.  Instead, they publicly reaffirmed the lie.

Even after the cover-up came to light, the SFA continued to close ranks on Celtic, faces were set to stone.  If Celtic didn’t know their place when it came to the dark arts of the SFA, they became acutely aware of it then.  Nothing could ever be the same again.

I have sympathy for McDonald.  He made a mistake but quickly did the right thing.  His name is tarnished largely as a consequence of the actions of his superiors.  If he called Neil Lennon the next day to extend the apology he gave to the SFA, the matter may have ended there and then.  He was not an innocent victim of an SFA cover-up, but he was a kind of victim.

The fight to change the SFA goes on.  Peter Lawwell is now on the board and some of the faces have moved on, but it is not a healthy body.  The vast majority of the 93 member clubs are not conspiratorial in nature and have no ill towards Celtic or any other club, but overhauling the labyrinth of committees, with vested interests which have been decades in the making, will look like pushing water uphill to anyone committed to reform.

Our interests are best served leaving the SFA behind, and we’re not alone in that.

Excitement builds as the 10-in-a-row CQN Charity Golf Day takes place tomorrow in Aberdour, with Frank McGarvey and Len Murray!

This year we are raising money for Glasgow the Caring City and The Cookiejar Foundation. We have two copies of this magnificent canvas, signed by Billy McNeill, one is available to the highest bidder on ebay here.

The other is available for raffle. Every donor to this JustGiving page gets an entry in the raffle. The minimum donation is £1, which we can all afford to participate in, although you can donate as much as you want. Our thanks to @BarryMcGonigle for the image on the canvas and OPG Graphics for creating the work.

Thamk you for your considered response.

I understand your frustration with the Murdoch empire, and as others have pointed out, there are choices available to all regards news, entertainment and sport etc.

My issue was your choice of words and suggesting I was brainwashed because I have a Sky Sports subscription.

Edward the 1st – the hammer of the Scots. His son though, Edward the 2nd, didn’t share his old man’s passion for conquering Scotland, preferring to hang out with his gay lover to the fury of his father.

In the end, the English generals had enough of his indifference to war and murdered him by inserting a red hot poker up his bum in a symbolic killing.

    Those were the days eh!

You know I am just being a facetious git. Personally this season I have chosen to not renew as may not again renew until present encumbant admit and apologise of GTF!

For me personally I feel I would be being a bit two faced to stand and protest against the OB Act in GS one day and then be happy in the knowledge finding out my club has been complicit in creating what I was demonstrating against. How can I then back those same people financially. Until they apologise and/or go i will not renew my season book\s.

I may attend the occassional game with a heavy heart but they will get a mere fraction of the finance for the foreseeable than they normally would from me.

Just a wee story from the riot final.

Two pals from the same square in Castlemilk were on the pitch that day. One was a Celtic fan and the other a Deadco fan.

Alex the Deadco was being arrested and young Moore saw this and ran up and head butted the copper and shouted for Alex to run, both got home safely.

Now it was so long ago that I might have got the sequence wrong however the end result was one pal helping another.

    This is a true story.

    ===========================

I heard a similiar story from a good Tim now in his 50s and still going strong.

He ended up on the pitch that day, just milling around(so he says) and ended up bumping into one of his best mates, who happened to be a hun. Given what was going on around them the two proceeded to pretend to knock lumps out of each other!

I AM VOTING NO AS IT STANDS.

There is one thing that would have made me vote yes.

    If Alex Salmond had said.

In an independent Scotland we will not allow the likes SKY to broadcast unless they pay a sponsorship to Scottish football that matches what they pay to English football.

This would would be calculated by proportioning the relative size of the Scottish population in comparison to the rest of the UK.

If Celtic can’t get into the EPL, then they must lobby for the termination of English football being shown in Scotland, unless the broadcasters gives us a fair share of the TV revenues.

I couldn’t agree more. Ernie Walker certainly wouldn’t have put up with it.

We need some form of protection for our game- how many scottish football tops do you see kids wearing compared to english/continental? I’d say about 25%.

If they aren’t prepared to pay a decent fee so clubs like utd can hold onto Ryan Gauld etc, then we must regard them as the enemy of our game.

Ultimately it is up to the SPFA to extract maximum value. If this is not met, it is up to the SPFA to lobby the SFA to block Sky transmissions. I’m sure legislation used to exist to protect countries from the saturation of live football from foreign countries at the expense of our domestic game.

    I apologise sincerely.

  20. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

Reflecting on last night’s game, obviously consideration must be given to it being a first outing and a “game of two teams”.

However, the first impression was good.

Major emphasis on playing out from the back, starting with the keeper.

A lot more energy used in closing down opponents in the top two thirds of the pitch.

For me, it was noticible that the younger players, Twardzik, in the first half and all the kids in the second half, seemed more comfortable in looking for, controlling and moving the ball, than the old hands.

A case, perhaps, of old dogs, new tricks.

Nothing that Barbara Woodhouse can’t sort!

Although it is not fair to judge this early, I think that KC, CM and AS, may not be regular starts, once the season gets into full swing and the new style is up and running.
