D&P: Rangers could cease before end of season

676

Lots to chew over in this afternoon’s statement from Duff and Phelps but this nugget grabbed my attention:

“If we proceed with an offer that is based on a sale of the business and assets, then we would expect the football club share to be transferred within a matter of weeks, with a preference of prior to the end of the current season.”

This means that unless a CVA is concluded beforehand, Duff and Phelps plan to ask the football authorities to award Rangers’ share in the SPL to a new club prior to the end of this season.  This share is worth money, Duff and Phelps would be able to sell it to generate cash, so there is no harm in them asking!

The enormous problem for the league is that the Newco would not employ any footballers and the final date in the season for signing non-contracted player passed a month ago.  Rangers players are employed by Rangers FC PLC and their registrations cannot be transferred to any other football club outside of a transfer window.

In the event of a liquidation (which Duff and Phelps have not accepted as a likelihood), player registrations revert to the SFA.  They are not assumed by a phoenix Newco to pick the following week.  There is absolutely no circumstances for a club to avoid liquidation and still manage to transfer their players to a Newco outside a transfer window.

How did they concoct such a fantasy?

This is a Fifa rule and cannot be altered by the SFA or SPL.  The entire debacle has become farcical.

SPL clubs, who vote on Friday on whether to introduce a procedure which would allow a Newco to be allowed straight into the league, have the proverbial gun pointing to their heads with this statement.  They must stand firm and refused to become embroiled in the mess.

The other SPL clubs and the SFA did not design this crisis at a member club and it is not their responsibility to resolve it.  We will find out soon enough whether member clubs take account of the overwhelming voice of their supporters on this matter.

Your comment ” It’s not over yet, steady on.” reminded me of when I was running a school football team. We were winning about 10-0 at half-time I told the players to remain recpectful to the opposition by continuing to play in a competitive fashion until the final whistle. With two minute to go, we were 18-0 ahead and one of our players laughed about something. My captain, mindful of my half-time words said : ” Stop laughing. It`s not over yet.” 18-0 with two minutes left!! .

  10. Nearly 4,000 fans along for an u19 game (I wold have been another one had i not had to drop my son off at his work).

given this, i cant understand why a Celtic reserve team Division 3 isnt being given proper consideration.

  11. This guy Mad Bad Bill will fit right into the whole ethos of the Hun culture at Ibrokes:

    1) Demonstrates an abnormal level of hubris & monstrous Agamemnon like delusion- a sort of Victory disease.

    2) An over-weening Narcissistic sense of entitlement that believes it is owed exaggerated rewards & favours in no way deserved.

    3) Has a blind faith in rank: endorses psychological bullying of others (ie his blackmail attempt of SFA/SPL today)- a fascistic mindset that believes in refusing other people choices.

    4) Walks with a hideous victory jig.

    5) Shoots small animals with an elephant gun for fun.

    6) Targets the weak and the emotional stunted.

    7) Thinks Hitler was a radical innovator.

    8) Happy-slaps altar boys.

    9) Teases the homeless with wads of cash from his limousine window.

I think this “bid” could be described as Wild Bill’s “Beot”.

Beot: is Anglo-Saxon for a ritualized vow, threat or boast. The boat is accepted in order to proclaim your commitment to an apparently impossible goal- with the intention of increasing your glory when you succeed…hahahahahaha…poor pucker faced ponce of puffery!

  15. Lurgan57,

I’ve missed your incisive comment. Hope to read more of you here, especially when they go to the wall.

I can’t remember the Hearts game you mention but I do remember the Quitingo goal, scored in about the 10th minute of injury time. It was also the first attack, after we had hammered at them. Tait is only 1 of a long long line of cheats among the Scottish refereeing fraternity.

  16. The Battered Bunnet on

I love youth football. It seems to be a more honest form of the game.

Now and again, rather often actually, one team takes an absolute doing, and it is difficult to watch. There is generally very little between the individual talents of the players, but rather the collective talent of one team simply overwhelms the other, and the outcome is a mollocation.

I don’t enjoy those games, albeit that they are often times illuminated by moments of terrific imagination and skill.

As I write, the kids from Queen of South are 8-0 down in the Scottish Cup Final. Even the ref is finding it difficult, with a clear penalty to Celtic there ignored out of simple human mercy. (Honest Merstakes anyone?) Really, it’s a drubbing.

And yet, while Celtic’s team is made up of boys born in 1993 AND 1994, some of these QoS kids will be sitting Standard Grade English on Thursday, and indeed, one or two are too young to even sit Standard Grades. They’ll have plenty of material to write about when they get finally their heads round the fact that at age 15 they took on all comers from the Pro Youth League, beat the lot, and made it to the Final at Hampden Park, only to be beaten by a group of talented young professionals 2 or 3 years their senior.

Chin up kids. No shame in that. Next season waits for you.
