D&P: Rangers could cease before end of season

676

Lots to chew over in this afternoon’s statement from Duff and Phelps but this nugget grabbed my attention:

“If we proceed with an offer that is based on a sale of the business and assets, then we would expect the football club share to be transferred within a matter of weeks, with a preference of prior to the end of the current season.”

This means that unless a CVA is concluded beforehand, Duff and Phelps plan to ask the football authorities to award Rangers’ share in the SPL to a new club prior to the end of this season.  This share is worth money, Duff and Phelps would be able to sell it to generate cash, so there is no harm in them asking!

The enormous problem for the league is that the Newco would not employ any footballers and the final date in the season for signing non-contracted player passed a month ago.  Rangers players are employed by Rangers FC PLC and their registrations cannot be transferred to any other football club outside of a transfer window.

In the event of a liquidation (which Duff and Phelps have not accepted as a likelihood), player registrations revert to the SFA.  They are not assumed by a phoenix Newco to pick the following week.  There is absolutely no circumstances for a club to avoid liquidation and still manage to transfer their players to a Newco outside a transfer window.

How did they concoct such a fantasy?

This is a Fifa rule and cannot be altered by the SFA or SPL.  The entire debacle has become farcical.

SPL clubs, who vote on Friday on whether to introduce a procedure which would allow a Newco to be allowed straight into the league, have the proverbial gun pointing to their heads with this statement.  They must stand firm and refused to become embroiled in the mess.

The other SPL clubs and the SFA did not design this crisis at a member club and it is not their responsibility to resolve it.  We will find out soon enough whether member clubs take account of the overwhelming voice of their supporters on this matter.

  1. Charlie Mann gives Jackson Irvine some early MSM flak by slagging him off for choosing Australia over Scotland at international level.

Young Irvine took it absolutely in his stride and has gone to collect the cup.

    Well played, young mhan.

Right. If Rangers are dead Fojut needs two legs and the doctors must count them before he joins the team. If they are not dead one leg Fojut will be Okay. The chances of McCullough doing bad tackle on one leg Fojut cousing bad injury are 50 percent less.

QotS, Ross County and Falkirk each have excellent set-ups at that level. I think a few coaches took in the likes of Akranes academy and the fabled Ajax, Feyenoord and Barca academies too, with most opting for the former approach, although we appear to have taken the latter, which is in keeping with our stature in the game.

  10. when the spl stopped the reserve league to help out the taxdodgersfc ,we should have pushed for entering a youth team into div 3 ,in saying that celtic have done well setting up all those games all over the UK

Willie says Watford was first to do it but when Celtic first tried to emulate it we met resistance. Crucially, the council and schools support the Celtic project now.

    Well said.

Although I am very pleased that our U19’s did the job – it seems like a bit of a mismatch. I hope that the QoS lads dont feel too dispirited and will reflect that they did exceptionally well to get to the final once the numbness of the 8-0 result wears off.

  14. Another thing to thank the late great Tommy Burns for.

He toured Europe picking up ideas and systems from various youth systems then refined everything he had seen into a plan that would suit Celtic.

    RIP Tommy…

Starting to become slightly uneasy about what’s going on with D&P …….. If they were working to gain maximum return for the creditors, as they are charged with doing, they would have duly liquidated RIA by now, sold all the assets etc …… Something not right, here ………

If this had been ANY other team in Scotland, they would have been liquidated by now ……. To ignore Justice in this manner is truly disgusting ….. Not one of them have a modicum of dignity or morality….

  16. Willie McStay talks a lot of sense, does he not?

A game like tonight is about taking the stage. You know the boys have ability, but on nights ilke tonight you see which of these lads can “take the stage” and handle the crowd reaction, handle the occasion.

Jelly and Ice Cream term does not exist in Poland. I was confused when read that on CQN.

If/When Rangers are liquidated it does present us with an investment opportunity, in players. Surely with 2/3 seasons point reductions we will be almost guarenteed championships. Which, in turn, should guarantee a certain level of income and additional European revenue, if we invest,.What I mean is can we not front load that required investment next year and buy REAL quality, experienced, players to help get that champions league income. Carlos Puyol anuyone?

I was in Wroclaw 2 weeks ago and asked for Jelly and ice cream after my well done fillet steak. Was served a plate of ice cream with jam on the side, strawberry, very nice :)

  22. Willie McStay: “I was at a coaching seminar yesterday. Alan Irvine was up from Everton and he put a slide up showing which young players there had made it into the first team: Rooney at 16, Osman at 17 … they all made their first-team debuts between 16 and 19. That creates value for the club and makes it easier to sell the club to the parents of the next group of young players coming through.

“I’m not sure about an under-20 league.”
