Duff & Phelps £4m shortfall

761

Following on from the SFA issuing an important announcement just as the Olympics opening ceremony was getting underway (Mr Regan, take a long hard look in the mirror), Duff and Phelps yesterday issued their final progress report to creditors of The Rangers Football Club PLC (in administration), recently renamed RFC 2012 PLC.

….On a Sunday, when the Ryder Cup was guaranteed top dominate sports reporting.  Anyone would think they didn’t want you to read it.

Take your time to read the report in detail here.  For those of us who follow football finances there is a treasure trove of information seldom revealed in this detail.

During the period in administration covered by the report, 14 February 2012 to 25 September 2012, the club incurred trading shortfall of £4,007,635.  Quite a remarkable figure.

The administrators received £2,457,420 remuneration on 10 August while the club paid £1,325,756 in legal fees as well as over £400k in legal and administration disbursements.

Buried (very) deep into the report is money paid to PR companies.  They paid Spreckley £28,941 for media consulting in relation to the administration.  They also paid Media House £141,441 for media consultancy in relation to the company.  Is this another remarkable figure?  Some creditors may be surprised but there is none here. Duff and Phelps will no doubt be prepared to explain to creditors the value they gained from this expenditure on their behalf at the forthcoming creditors’ meeting.

Duff and Phelps will soon be discharged and the club will be handed over to BDO who will liquidate it.

By the same token, with every CL Group Stages away game we play and do not win, we are therefore one game closer to actually winning one of them.

    Shurely?

    Why not tonight?

Keep it tight for the first 89 minutes then score in the 90th.

Newcastle Utd have pulled the plug on their shirt sponsor, Virgin Money (formerly Northern Rock) one year early.

    It was originally a 4 year deal worth £10m. That’s £2.5 m per year.

At this point they have not said who their new sponsor will be.

How much do we get from our shirt sponsor and who is going to be next?

How much should we expect to get?

IIRC Rules on newco start ups apply only if the old owners are behind the re-start. As much as it is rumoured to be the case, it would require substantial proof to bring those rules into play.

Yep but that same statistical anomaly could be applied to our own record away from home in the group stages of the CL, well that’s what I keep telling myself anyway!!

I’ve been impressed with our away performances in the last 4 European ties but out inability to retain possession, in Helsingbrgs especially, is an area which requires much improvement.

Still hopeful that tonight could just be our night.

Good morning fellow Celts, fine clear morning over Renfrewshire

I love the morning of CL day. If not going to the game, it can be difficult to stay focused on anything else. Although the 5pm CP kick- off time is a wee help in that regard.

I have the same feeling of excitement and anticipation today as I had when I was a wee bhoy prior to my first ever Euro game v Fiorentina in the 69/70.

European football is the natural habitat of our club. Anything achieved on the home front has always been sweet and mainly because we knew about the cheating and a sense of satisfaction…a wee glow.

Europe is so much more important. Folks from my generation were spoiled…. I was born in the year of our first ever Euro game. Fallon, McNeil, Crerand, etc ran out at the Mestalla in Valencia to contest the old Fairs Cities cup. We failed to progress that season however the lads learned quickly and in the next 12 seasons we reached 6 euro semis played in two finals and won the Big Cup in ’67 …most people knew that bit :)

Quarter finals were the norm. So spoiled by the time I was 12 I thought it was always going to be like that then 75 and onwards was a reality check. I am slightly envious of the guys born in the mid 40’s because they saw the Coronation Cup and 7-1 and Charlie Tully; Collins and Evans etc but they also got to see the Lions emerge and develop … They also saw enough pure cr@p to really appreciate it. So they had an appreciation and perspective that took me some considerable time to understand.

In this generation we had Seville and 2 x last 16 to savour … That was only a wee taste of what the earlier generation enjoyed

As a child of the early 60’s I wait in hope of the return of a team reared on our streets …a team to emulate the glory days..

My heart beats faster on Euro days, it is a feeling I enjoy intensely

I also listen carefully to those elder Celts born in the 30’s and 40’s …those bhoys know I thing or two … they saw a thing or two …they had the best of it.

    Enjoy tonight
