Duffy and need for central defender more than winger

476

A proposed swap deal with Blackburn with Shane Duffy coming to Glasgow and James Forrest heading south makes sense for Celtic. Late last season we were talking about how Erik Sviatchenko was our only solid central defender, with Jozo Simunovic injured and yet to establish himself.

Duffy made his Euro 16 debut in the 1-0 win over Italy, before being red carded for a professional foul against France. I’m not expecting a van Dijk, but his performances in both games was of the standard Celtic only have with Erik.

James Forrest grabbed the space vacated by Aiden McGeady’s move to CSKA Moscow and made the most of the opportunity but injury has inhibited him in recent years. He’s also suffered from being part of what looked like a World Record attempt of squeezing wingers into a 23-man squad. We need fewer wingers and at least one more central defender.

Brendan Rodgers comments that Kris Commons is nowhere near ready for the first team is not encouraging. I’d have him limp to the bench for the forthcoming qualifiers. Even unfit, he’s capable of linking play like no one else in the squad.

Wow,that is some reply. I commend you on the time taken on it.

With absolutely no offence intended,I hope you are right. Because if there is a second Indyref it is those arguments which will be used.

I disagree with most of them, and I’m sure you’re ok with that, because I think you will win.

With WoS he had an initial opinion, it was unpalatable but ultimately it was an opinion based on the evidence he had. Fair enough.

However, the inquiry ended and the new evidence presented showed his opinion was entirely without merit and couldn’t be supported. He refused to change it. Point blank.

You now have no idea whether anything he presents is supported by the available evidence. Unless you’ve double checked yourself.

As I said before he’s the opposite side of the same coin as the Daily Mail.

Your thoughts on the Euro are well of the mark.

They are so inaccurate that I actually am minded to believe that you are AstroTurf at the wind up.

As for WoS — has he apologised for his Hillsborough cooments yet?

Total scum is the best I can offer to describe him.

Consequently interesting stuff but not a convincing argument for IndyRef2.

We are currently in the worst possible situation and separation will make. It even worse.

US — Not looking good, DT has shoved the genie out the bottle.

UK — Not looking good as the same genie has appeared but without a spokesman better or more capable than NF who has already moved beyond parody.

ShamCam the Tory skid mark has gone but we have a 1950’s suburban curtain twitcher instead of a poundshop aristocrat and her team look a bit weak in most areas.

EU — Complete shambles unable to deal consistently and constructively with the pressures and challenges it is being faced with. Plus the political wannabes in certain large members look scary and have no desire to try and make it work if they get into power.

Plus we have the spectre of Greece hanging over the whole sorry mess.

IndyRef2 — just what we need in 2017 or even 2027.

Politics has just got very interesting.

Bobby – it’s not my side. I want a socialist government.I’d take a UK one. But at this trajectory, in 20 years time we will be getting told hitler was a communist. I don’t see any other way out.

Weeminger, aye, he seems – is- a nut, but the links are youtube videos etc. Not got time to double check everything. No one else posts sources etc, yet bandy about armageddon economic arguments against independence. WOS was only one source. The scot gov white paper, euro commission were the main sources.

Anyway ive had enough politics for the day. Sorry for boring anyone hoping to read about this team called celtic that play something called football……

  11. Macjay and the others who responded to my contribution earlier: sorry for not replying before. Been out all morning and have only glimpsed back.

I would add only 1 thing to what I wrote before: how one votes is not just about the likes of fear of the consequences of any alternatives, or economic realities. My impression of the average Scot at the moment is anger that everything they detest controls Westminster. Whether the SNP (or whoever runs an Independent Scotland) will prove any more effective is obviously debatable but at least they will be our choice.
