DUFFY IN DEMAND

BRENTFORD are attempting to hi-jack Celtic’s bid for Derry City striker Michael Duffy.

The 20-year-old frontman, valued at £300,000, has been offered a trial by the Championship side.

Duffy has been invited to Griffin Park by former Rangers skipper Davie Weir, assistant boss of the Bees who was behind the £850,000 move to take Lewis Macleod from Ibrox earlier this month.

The Irish youngster impressed just over a week ago for the Hoops’ kids when he fired two past Holland’s World Cup keeper Tim Krul in a 3-1 win over Newcastle United during a closed-doors game at St James’s Park.

He said: “I did all I could. Now I’ll need to wait and see what the Celtic manager’s call is.”

The Irish club’s boss Peter Hutton is now anticipating an offer for the Northern Ireland Under-21 international.

He said: “Michael left a good impression on his original visit when he trained with members of the first team squad.

“And he raised a few eyebrows during the match against Newcastle.”

Brentford also took notice and have made their move.
