Duffy: “What goes on behind the scenes”

643

“Not many know what goes on behind the scenes”, Shane Duffy’s words on Instagram as he said his goodbyes to Celtic yesterday.  Arriving a year ago as a 28-year-old international with years of English Premiership experience, he looked like the ideal addition to the Celtic squad.

Whatever ailed Shane to prompt Brighton to move him on, a year in Glasgow, much of it in isolation away from family and his kids, did nothing to help.  His parting sentiment alludes to some of his challenges has endured off the park.

If footballers would only be machines, nothing like this would happen.  Competitions would resolve in a manner the aborted European Super League would approve.  Shane was physically fit and desperate to be a winner at Celtic but still came off the rails. You can bookmark him for a reflective piece when his career is over, I expect he will tell a familiar tale of the toll life’s pressures took.

Yip, still no news.  No, not a good sign.

Turkeybhoy – How is it over in Turkey? Meant to be going over there to Alanya, Antalya in the summer, although I think my son in law might have moved it to next year now.

I know Turkey was having a right bad time of it and I hope you and the family are safe and well.

So, another week goes by without the appointment of a new mgt team.

With the players we know are leaving, and those we suspect might, how long does the new team need to prepare for the first game?

Re Michelle Mone, I’ve never been a violent guy,but if I met her I would probably need restrained, the way she spoke to my son,in his first job at M&S in Silverburn a few years ago…….an absolute tramp and a bully, who forgets where she came from.

    …………………..

Shes a right wing Lying, Bullying Bitch. Ive already posted about her on this Thread and the previous one, about my Ex Wife who used to work in her office, and my Telephone dealings with her.

My ex wife, and some of her colleagues in the Office would tell me that ” They ( The Office staff), didnt understand how her Husband at the time ( Michael), ever put up with her ” ?

If I remember correctly Rod Stewart and his wife Penny bombed her out as a Pal…eventually ?

  6. Celtic Statement…

It is stated that PL and The Dom will meet up with supporters Groups next week….sadly, I find that dodgy ?

IF Celtic are going to meet with supporters Groups WHY not do it with the NEW Manager in tow, who can set out his ” Vision” for Celtic in the future Blah Blah ?

Seems to me that this is nothing more than a PR Stunt, with ” The DOM” and PL almost begging for Season Books to be Renewed…while there is STILL NO New manager in place….it smacks of Desperation..I hope that I am wrong ?

    This line from the statement-

‘we are not able to make regular public comment’

    It’s Howe’s gardening leave

    ###

Why would he be on garden leave?

And why would any such garden leave provision prevent him from going to a club governed by a different association?

If Howe is in Celtic’s thoughts (and contrary to some claims, Celtic have said nothing to confirm that he is) then I think it’s more plausible that the delay is caused by him waiting for a better offer from an EPL club.

  10. Reading this morning that West Ham are holding back on David Moyes’ contract extension.

Wonder if Celtic are keeping an eye on this…

  11. Peter Lawell turning up to meet supporters, that better not be a lie in the email and may someone protect him.

Or will it be hand picked yes men he chooses to meet from the Supporters Association (nodding dogs).

What could Peter Liewell possibly say that any true Celtic supporter would trust. NADA

By the way I believe 99.99% that it is Howe.

The supporters orgs will be mandated by their constitution and by demand of their mebers to talk to Celtic FC and to report back to the members from the meeting, some orgs will make public what transpired not sure just in what way you feel it’s dodgy the supporters meeting with Celtic FC from supporters org perspective.

In my experience, it usually leads to frustration meeting with Celtic FC, best summed up by use a long spoon when supping with the devil

  14. DAVID66 on 8TH MAY 2021 8:59 AM

I don’t believe the contract thing either. Another theory I’ve read and so far seems the most plausible is that the two coaches he wants are still at Bournemouth. I’m not sure if there’s an agreement for them to come at the end of the season but if not, what happens if they win the playoffs?

  15. DAVID66

I don’t accept the “contract” stories either.

He’s holding out for something better and we are allowing this farce to continue.

    ………………………

I fully respect YOUR Personal experience, and perhaps my use of the word ” Dodgy”” isnt correct ?

What I was attempting to say was, that IF NO New Manager is announced BEFORE PL and The DOM meet with supporters…then what PRECISELY are PL and The DOM gonna tell those supporters when asked ” WHO is the new manager” ?

They are both unlikely to reveal any name to the supporters BEFORE a new Manager is announced ? Both PL and the Dom will ( in my opinion ?), may NOT be in a Position to reveal anything about any new manager, due to the new Guy either STILL to make up his mind…or if the new Guy is currently employed by another Club or Country ?

UNLESS of course…A new manager IS announced BEFORE any meeting with supporters….I really dont know ?

    HH.

  19. At first I was angry and appalled at the thought of PL remaining as a non executive director.

Having given it some thought .

Is he doing that , obviously with the clubs blessing , so that he can take up a position with UEFA or any new organisation.

Then influence the restructuring of European football to help Celtic .

    Just a thought .

Rest in peace John Sludden who passed away today at the age of 56.

John was one of our 4 ‘S’ signings who played for Scotland under 15’s at Wembley. Scotland won 5 4 with John scoring twice as did Paul McStay.

John was in our team who won the 1982 Glasgow Cup final Ibrox. Both us and the now defunct club played their reserve sides. Great game with a Celtic team who played with great heart and attitude.

After leaving us , he played for numerous clubs including Ayr United and Killie where he is held in high esteem by both supports. Tommy signed him for Killie to help them get promoted through the leagues. John joined fellow ex Celts , George McLuskey and Billy Stark.

John was also a Celtic youth coach before becoming East Stirling coach before moving to the Juniors.

Another person taken from their family too young.

Maybe, just maybe ( and I don’t know), Eddie Howe promised his family that he would take a year out after he left Bournemouth. Or not.

  22. In order to fully understand the historical denial which is to be unquestionably accepted by members of the Celtic family of an Irish heritage, both Catholic and Protestant alike, we must first remind ourselves of the sheer scale of the inhumanity and death that An Gorta Mor bestowed upon Britain’s Ireland between 1845-1852c, including parts of Ulster such as Lurgan and Newtonards where deaths due to An Gorta Mor were just as devastating as parts of the South.

Statistically speaking, the Great Hunger is almost incomprehensible.

For example, consider that between the 1841 and 1851 Irish census the entire population is decreased by a staggering 20 – 30% – put another way, approximately 1 million Irish men, women and children starved to death and approximately 1.5 – 2 million Irish folk left the country.
