Duffy: “What goes on behind the scenes”

643

“Not many know what goes on behind the scenes”, Shane Duffy’s words on Instagram as he said his goodbyes to Celtic yesterday.  Arriving a year ago as a 28-year-old international with years of English Premiership experience, he looked like the ideal addition to the Celtic squad.

Whatever ailed Shane to prompt Brighton to move him on, a year in Glasgow, much of it in isolation away from family and his kids, did nothing to help.  His parting sentiment alludes to some of his challenges has endured off the park.

If footballers would only be machines, nothing like this would happen.  Competitions would resolve in a manner the aborted European Super League would approve.  Shane was physically fit and desperate to be a winner at Celtic but still came off the rails. You can bookmark him for a reflective piece when his career is over, I expect he will tell a familiar tale of the toll life’s pressures took.

Yip, still no news.  No, not a good sign.

If PL joins a UEFA committee it’ll be for his benefit not ours, in my opinion, of course

  2. A done deal is past tense.

We should never refer to a future occurrence, no matter how likely, as a done deal.

As at today, we have no permanent manager.

John Kennedy is a carrying out the role, on an interim basis.

Ernie- if it is Howe, and I think it is, there will be lots of beneficial terms of him agreeing to step aside from Bournemouth, clauses and penalty clauses. Mourinho had a clause, if Spurs sacked him,and he took another job,Spurs would pay any shortfall in his new contract, for the duration of his Spurs deal.I believe EH is bound by a clause just now

New “money” for TFOD2.1 — looking very like a payday loan to get them to the start of next season.

The strings attached to any money / finance are probably over in Philadelphia for a bit of lawyering — make that an awful lot of lawyering.

Kicking the money can down the road — the possibility of CL money seems to be their saviour.

They are a high wire act without a safety net.

We were the wind but we didn’t turn up.

Reading this morning that West Ham are holding back on David Moyes’ contract extension.

Wonder if Celtic are keeping an eye on this…

    ———————————————-

I’m not saying you know the answer to this but why would they be stalling? I don’t follow English football enough to know this but aren’t they having one of their best seasons? Are they not normally flirting with relegation?

    More English Premiership madness?

Ernie- I think it was a mutual agreement.

And if they had been unable to mutually agree would he have been sacked or would he have resigned?

  9. !!Bada Bing!! on

Ernie- I don’t know, I think he stayed there too long, and over achieved by not only getting them into the EPL, but keeping them in it for 4 or 5 seasons, during that time he could have got a job like Everton or Arsenal.

  10. still no email from Celtic. A bit like bringing the office guys out for a pint but forgetting about the guys on the floor below. motivational intent becomes de-motivational and you should have not done anything.

It’s “spirits” that will lift me later.

Amber in colour, peaty, perhaps smoky, perhaps a hint of sherry sweetness, probably cask strength, and with a splash of water.

    Really looking forward to it!

    Hope you are good!

I have taken delivery of Eden Mills` Quadruple Treble Whisky. If it is as good as their Double Treble which I bought at the time, then I recommend it.

I think it’s a financial thing. West Ham have suffered more than most during the pandemic as they’re more reliant on selling tickets – especially because of their arrangement with the stadium.

I think they’d love to keep Moyes but might be forced to cut back – qualifying for the CL might change things though.

  15. See Sevco are demolishing there old Edmiston Drive offices and replacing it with state of the art Museum,as for our own Club what has happened to the plans for The Hotel,Museum,Ticket Office,Barrowfield, makes me wonder what Football Club is skint,🌚🌚

  16. Lawwell says he’s retiring. Under normal circumstances that means he’s off altogether but given how sleekit the board are, that could just have been to relieve pressure mid season. My guess is he’ll stay on in some capacity. One wonders how Doms ‘shadowing’ is going.

I wonder if any issues like the 5WA , LNS findings, EBT’s , Res 12 now 11 the apparent acceptance of Celtic to a new club but with an inherited history and the seemingly growing “OF “relationship will be part of the handover?

Thanks didn’t know that about the stadium, so if they’re stalling on this his contract must be bonkers, too rich for us I’d say if he became available

  22. If we have offered Howe the job and giving him time to mull it over then we are in bigger trouble than i first thought.

My hope is that we have moved on and may be waiting for Clarke.I just don’t know, anyway Howe is not Pep.

I dont think we will see that hotel and museum. if desmond and celtic wanted to build it would have been done. Ambition is something you could not accuse celtic of.

Ps there is a long way from a planning application to actually demonishing and building something. Sevco may do ahead and do it, who knows. I would much rather we incorporate a museum, hotel etc. into an improved and increased main stand.

  26. Just watched Barca v Altetico. Couple of minutes to go and it’s 0 – 0 and Messi has a free kick on their by-line, just out side their box. Instead of the expected high cross he tries a reverse pass to the penalty spot but it’s intercepted by an Atletico player and off charge a posse of Atletico players, all the way up the park where the ball is finally lost in the right back area. Who got the ball? Messi! Now THERE’s commitment from a world class player.

Could we imagine any of our forwards working back like that to make up for a mistake they had made?
