Duffy: “What goes on behind the scenes”

643

“Not many know what goes on behind the scenes”, Shane Duffy’s words on Instagram as he said his goodbyes to Celtic yesterday.  Arriving a year ago as a 28-year-old international with years of English Premiership experience, he looked like the ideal addition to the Celtic squad.

Whatever ailed Shane to prompt Brighton to move him on, a year in Glasgow, much of it in isolation away from family and his kids, did nothing to help.  His parting sentiment alludes to some of his challenges has endured off the park.

If footballers would only be machines, nothing like this would happen.  Competitions would resolve in a manner the aborted European Super League would approve.  Shane was physically fit and desperate to be a winner at Celtic but still came off the rails. You can bookmark him for a reflective piece when his career is over, I expect he will tell a familiar tale of the toll life’s pressures took.

Yip, still no news.  No, not a good sign.

Not at the moment David, but maybe later in the year. The figures are starting to go down, and lockdown should end between 27\30 May.Its to be reviewed every 3 weeks,so still hope for this year.Exchange rate,11.50,to the pound,so everything really cheap.Get your new Celtic Kit,lol.

  2. The tea lady would have done more on the park than Ajeti.

    You’ve no been watchin’.

Exactly and that’s the real sense of my frustration – not that we didn’t get Toney. There are lots of players we didn’t get. But that we DID get Ajeti.

  4. MAJESTIC HARTSON on 8TH MAY 2021 8:59 PM

Toney’s fit, can last ninety minutes week in week out, can chase down defenders, run the channels.

There’s a reason why the last four managers who have managed Ajeti haven’t played him.

I don’t blame Ajeti for being a tit. Or the rest of them.

Whoever recruited these duds should be identified, shamed and fired.

I agree which is why I don’t understand the delay behind the appointment of the DoF.

Lot’s of theories as to why Howe hasn’t been appointed yet but what’s the excuse for the DoF?

  7. GEEBEE1978

“Rumour” is Howe wants to bring his own DOF hence the delay in his appointment.

    Not for me.

  8. PHILBHOY on 8TH MAY 2021 9:09 PM

I’ve heard he was waiting on his two coaches at Bournemouth who will almost certainly see out the playoffs.

The rumour of him wanting Hughes was a strong one but Hughes doesn’t want to come and it seems it wasn’t a dealbreaker.

But the idea of a DoF is that he would be busy identifying targets, deciding who we keep/let go etc and if one manager knocks us back, another one can slot in smoothly.

The fact that nothing seems to be happening at all is very concerning. However, concern is now turning to apathy….

  9. GEEBEE1978

    Indeed!

The board appear far to laid back for my liking.

    Not a penny more!

  10. Not a minute more either I’m afraid.

    Away to my bed!

Nite all and thanks for being here.

  11. BTW I think Ajeti needs a bit of Love. As does Ryan Christie – stop the personal abuse – love the Hoops.

  12. RC

Given we have no permanent manager, head coach or DoF, we will not be making any deals right now.

    An utter disgrace

    Players can still leave however.

The system that elects people to the Scottish Parliament

is designed specifically to avoid anyone getting an overall majority.

It’s like a right on school sports day where even the fat kid gets

a medal. It’s ridiculously complicated. Ask how the Green party

get so many seats. It’s rubbish.

The SNP won fair and square but will need to be propped up

by the Greens. Utter nonsense but well done for taking part.

  14. MARKIEBHOY on 8TH MAY 2021 11:39 PM

It is a complicated system, but one thing is clear, more people voted for parties that want Scotland to remain in the UK than voted for parties that want Scotland to leave the UK.

  15. Eddie

There was very little in the popular vote of yes and no parties, 1% or so,i think .more chance of forward thinking labour voters seeing the writing on the wall for Labour in England and changing to the yes camp than yes voters changing to no i think.

  16. The SNPcult are in the minority compared to those who wish to stay in the UK, EVERY TIME & in EVERY ELECTION & REFERENDUM. The party split lets them in.

Such is their entitlement & hatred of England & the UK, that they would ignore the majority and do as they please in their own incompetent way.

*It was the UK government that gave SNPcult their opportunity to upgrade from ceilidh dancers to a proper party with Devolution.

*It is the UK that pays off the Scottish overdraft (deficit) to the tune of £13b per year and allows an extra £2300 per head of population to be spent on vital services.

*It is the UK that has kept Scotland, one million Scottish jobs & thousands of Scottish businesses, afloat during the pandemic with the furlough scheme.

  19. DREW1967 on 9TH MAY 2021 12:04 AM

In 2014 2,001,926 voted for Scotland to remain in the UK.

In 2021, in an election that was all about independence, 1,274,977, people voted for parties that want Scotland to leave the UK.
