Dundee United 1-0 Celtic

258

Celtic were careless in possession throughout this game but it would be wrong to suggest it was a lackadaisical performance, if anything the champions were hurried in possession when a bit more composure and patience was required.

The Dundee United goal came as a result of poor defending.  United won a corner on Celtic’s right which was taken short before the cross came in.  Scott Robertson met the ball 7 yards from goal and placed a header into the corner of the net giving Fraser Forster no chance.

Celtic enjoyed the majority of possession throughout the game but failed to make anything of it before going behind, however, Kris Commons soon sparked into life.  On 29 minutes Gary Hooper knocked the ball down to Commons who fired in a shot which was deflected wide.

Commons then fed Hooper whose shot from 25 yards was spilled by Pernis in the United goal.  The final seconds of the first half should have led to a Celtic goal.  Commons’ shot from outside the box was saved by Pernis but United could not clear the chance and when the ball broke back to Commons he fired a cross along the six yard line which Anthony Stokes completely missed with an empty goal in front of him.

The second half was most notable for the procession of ineffective cross balls Celtic threw into the Dundee United box.  With Charlie Mulgrew playing in central defence his delivery from wide positions was badly missed.

Tony Watt replaced Stokes at half time and immediately stirred things up, forcing Pernis into a good save from a header soon after the break.  Within a minute he forced another save which Pernis could only parry.

While Mulgrew was missed on the wing he twice blocked shots which could have put United two ahead.  MacKay-Steven crossed for Jon Daly who was denied by Mulgrew while late in the game the Celtic defender halted a Jonny Russell effort.

Gary Hooper put Celtic’s best chance of the game inches wide after Kris Commons (again) linked play to set him up for a shot inside the box.

  1. I await with interest a statement from put Board on this entire farrago and sense they will release it at the appropriate time. However I hope they are leaning VERY heavily on other clubs to punish Rangers as their reward for years of cheating and no little heartache their tainted titles visited on most of us.

Only when the Board have made their position clear will my ST renewal decision be made.

If Celtic somehow allow themselves to become complicit with keeping them in the league, relatively punishment free, I will have £600 to spend elsewhere because I will not renew nor buy the CL packages. I may even sell my precious shares – something I never thought I would ever consider doing. I want to pass them to my sons as part of their birthright.

The real tragedy facing so many of us is the watching Celtic win, lose or draw has given us so many fantastic moments and cherished memories. To lose out on watching the team in the years ahead would indeed be a heartache for me and many others.

Please, Celtic, act is such a way that this dilemma does not present itself.

The credentials debate on here are for the imbeciles. Attack the personality with cheap shots ignore or unable to dig deeper and repeat the mantra

I worry that is what we will end up like.

Full steam ahead if the debating techniques we have seen a lot more recently on here is an indication of things to come

Do you care though is whatI ask myself ?

Celtic or Old Firm you makes your choices.

Fellow Celts, I need your help.

My parents recently had to go into full time care in Wellburn Care Home, Lochee, Dundee. Run by the Little Sisters of the Poor.

Welburn offers incredible residential support for those in need in the Dundee area. It is only a viable concern through the dedication of the sisters and volunteers and fundraising initiatives such as sales of work, coffee mornings etc.

The sisters need cash to maintain the home for the benefit of the residents, you cannot visit there and not be inspired by the work the sisters do.

All our favourite players have signed the top which is in mint condition and in a fantastic presentation box.

You can support the work of The Little Sisters Of The Poor by bidding for this Celtic top signed by the first team squad:

Your help is greatly appreciated and very much needed.

I don’t believe for one moment that Celtic will be complicit in letting a newco into the SPL, as for the other clubs,I’m afraid it’s a case of,”where do we sign?”

This is bigger than Neil Lennon.

This is about ensuring that those days are over that this is the beginning or is that just empty rhetoric ?

This is about making sure that this never happens again.

Unless of course you like it.

  7. Poor match today which highlighted yet again how bad we are against packed defences. Meaningless game or not Lenny must by now know that we need players that can cross and head a ball. Why did wee Ibra not get some game time ?

Why is everybody falling out with each other for? wait for the SPL tomorrow and see.

My own opinion is that the fraudsters should be expelled.

we need a pacy winger, robust, mobile striker with heading abilities and another CB on top of the Polish guy.

Your moniker indicates female but you sentiments suggest otherwise.

I don’t know one female that would use any situation involving sport and equate it with battered women.

We all give our opinions on here but that was a ridiculous thing to post.

Anyone who thinks hamiltontim judges Celtic fans by attendance doesn’t know him at all.I had to give up my season ticket a few years ago, something I will rectify with great delight next season.Hamiltontim knows my love and feelings for the club.As far as we are both concerned I’m part of that wonderful thing known as,”THE CELTIC FAMILY.”

  13. Ellboy - I am Neil Lennon, YNWA. on

I see Neil having a pop at the hand ball penalty today.

No doubt he’ll bee asked to explain himself, maybe even given a longer ban?

I was wondering, can we have a “Newco” Lenny, to avoid any suspensions?

Well it’s only fair after all.

  14. JF,

    totally agree with you.

There is now no middle ground, no compomise scenario. It is now black or white. Either the newhunz are demoted or they are given free passage back into the SPL with £135M of debt waived.

The biggest scandal in the history of sport brushed under the carpet.

    I trust that Peter lawwell makes it clear before the vote that the gang of ten will need to choose the Blue pound OR the Green pound. Both cannot be an option.He should make it clear that if integrity is relegated from the SPL then Celtic will introduce a viewing tariff for next season;

    SPL/SC away game – 500 supporters

SC semi final – 1000 supporters

    SC final – 5000 supporters.

They need toknow the importance of the vote they are taking – before they make it!

  15. Almost forgot.

Fojut promised to boycott SPL from his first day in Glasgow.

  16. What happens if Celtic vote against Newco in the SPL but get outvoted by all the other hunnish prostitutes? Is that Celtics fault? My take on it would be to find out who voted for them, and who voted against. Then take the appropriate measures, i.e. boycott those who have no integrity and let it backfire on them. I personally go to the majority of away games, I love the atmosphere/singing etc but would be more than willing to stay away, even if it could potentially hurt the team. I will still renew my ST as I don`t think the champions should suffer because of dignitymyarse f.c.

  17. anyone see the interviews with Thomson and Houston after the match today?

they cannot even get their figures right in regard of a SPL without thems. Glad to see NL got tore into the players about their attitude today.
