CCV for Welsh, Forrest for Yang and O’Reilly for McCowan, and you have the team that beat Chelsea 4-1 in pre-season. As onenightinlisbon suggested, 8 of that 11 should be strong enough to beat a Dundee United team that shipped 4 against Motherwell last week.

North Americans maybe not.

Looking at the starters and the bench, I think, regardless of the circumstances and/or motivation – I we can say we have wholesale changes.
We hold our breaths and wait to see how it plays out – certainly makes the fixture more ‘interesting’ HH

Also, Welsh makes up one of our 8 nationally trained players, as well as one of our club-trained players for our European squad quota.
So, doubt BR will be looking to move him on. Would have to replace him with another academy player in that squad if he did. As we need 8 nationally trained & 4 of that 8 have to be club trained.
We currently have:
Bain – nationally trained
Taylor – nationally trained
Scales – club & nationally trained
Welsh – club & nationally trained
Ralston – club & nationally trained
McCowan – nationally trained
Calmac – club & nationally trained
Jamsie – club & nationally trained
So, unless we replace Welsh with a nationally trained player, we’d need to use another academy player in the squad.
👍

How does Scales qualify as club and nationally trained?
He is Irish and was bought or signed from an Irish club and I think had also played i a European tie when playing in Ireland.

Re Nawrocki , we may see him on at some point as Stephen Welsh seldom seems to last 90 minutes without some kind of injury .
Flowing football would be a bonus , but any win would do today . Even a 1-0 penalty for a foot on the penalty box line ! -))))))

Ok. Cool. My mistake. If he’s not trained with us for 3 years by the time he turned 21, then he doesn’t qualify as naturally trained or club trained.
Forgetting he wasn’t an academy player. As I said, not long up from a late night. 😂 👍

So, Welsh would need to be replaced in that squad with another club-trained player.
As someone has mentioned Dane Murray, that could be the plan.
Although, as some like Welsh are just squad fillers for the quota, unless we have an injury crisis in Europe.
Maybe leaving players out on successful loan spells is a better idea to develop them.
