    The probability of the Huns being drawn 12 games in a row in the cup is 4.096 , technically is known as having the luck of the devil.

     

     

    Despite the aforementioned luck it’s not done them much good.

    Ok, so we agree the huns have drawn 12 consecutive home games in the league cup.

     

     

    Every team in each of these draws had a 50/50, 50%, 0.5, or a half chance of being drawn (called an “event” in statistics) home or away i.e. a coin toss.

     

     

    As above, the chance of being drawn home/away or heads/tails was 50/50 or a half, 1/2.

     

     

    Given each draw is an “independent” the chances of being at home twice or two ‘heads’ in a row is 1/2 x 1/2 =1/4, a quarter or 25% chance.

     

     

    For independent events like cup draws, it’s an iterative process: 3 home draws/3 ‘heads’ = 1/2 x 1/2 x1/2 =-0.125 = 12.5% chance……and so on.

     

     

    A 1/2 x 1/2 x1/2 can be written as 1/2 cubed or 1/2 “to the power of’” 3 or 0.5^3 in Excel.

     

     

    So to calculate the probability of the huns getting 12 consecutive home draws in the League Cup we multiply 1/2 x1/2 x 1/2 x1/2……twelve times or simply 1/2 “to the power of “12 or 1/2 (0.5)^12 in Excel.

     

     

    Whilst theory suggests the huns should have had 6 home and 6 away games we have established the chances of them getting 12 consecutive home games are 1 in 4096 or 0.024%.

     

     

    Before jumping to conspiracy theories we need to be aware of ‘the law of large numbers’: it takes just shy of 10,000 coin tosses (trials in statistics) for the expected outcome (5000 heads/5000 tails) to converge to within +/- 1% of 5000 heads/5000 tails.

     

     

    We are dealing with a sample size of 12.

     

     

    All is not lost, however. We can calculate a standard deviation and Z-score for a small sample to get a feel for the likelihood of a team drawing 12 consecutive home games.

     

     

    I’ve just realised it’s way, way past my bedtime so in short the standard deviation for a sample size of 12 with a 50% probability of occurrence is 1.73 i.e on average the number of a home ties should fall between 6 +/- 1.73, so call it between 4 and 8 times out of 12 draws.

     

     

    Drawing 12 consecutive home games has a s.d. of 3.46.

     

     

    So called 3-sigma events are extremely rare in any walk of life, but apparently not the orange walk of life.

    Life in the 2020s comes with so much dissonance and dysphoria because everyone knows this civilization is doomed, but it’s not being acknowledged by any of our mainstream institutions.

     

     

    We can all see everything getting worse and worse before our eyes in real time, but our government officials don’t talk about it. Our mass media outlets don’t report on it. Our education systems don’t recognize it. There’s a giant elephant in the room with us at all times, and normal people are acutely aware of it, but the talking heads keep speaking as though everything’s going to keep ticking along normally into the foreseeable future.

     

     

    We can all see the summers heating up.

     

     

    We can all see that there are fewer insects and less wildlife around than when we were young.

     

     

    We can all see that the western empire is on borrowed time.

     

     

    We can all see that younger generations are having much more difficulty affording housing and life expenses than their parents and grandparents.

     

     

    We can all see that technology has stagnated as capitalism’s innovation-for-profit model hits the limit of how far it can carry us as a species.

     

     

    We can all see the apps, search engines, social media platforms and tech services getting shittier and shittier year by year.

     

     

    We can all see AI making everything worse and turning everyone into cognitive infants who can’t do anything for themselves while consistently failing to deliver what its proponents say it will deliver.

     

     

    We can all see the people around us getting dumber, crazier and more miserable as we are pushed into dystopian conditions where everyone gets more and more alienated and must pay a monthly fee for the experience of connection.

     

     

    We can all see that state authoritarianism is escalating in proportion to public discontent with the status quo.

     

     

    We all know we’re in a completely unsustainable situation. We all know we are riding a bus with disintegrating wheels.

     

     

    But it doesn’t get acknowledged by anyone at the top. The news reports are still about the latest celebrity gossip and whether the economy arrow is pointing up or down. The movies and shows are still about wacky and witty characters for whom capitalism is working perfectly fine. The politicians are still talking about culture war issues and the Evil Dictator of the Day.

     

     

    It is taken as a given that our grandchildren will be living in more or less the same kind of world we are living in, when we all know there’s no way this is true.

     

     

    The wheels on the bus are coming off, boys and girls. The ride is near its end.

     

     

    I’m not saying we’re all going to die, I’m just saying this civilization as it presently exists cannot possibly be sustained. Immensely drastic changes are coming up around the bend whether we like it or not, either by a deliberate transformation or by some cataclysmic event occurring against our will.

     

     

    Life in the 2020s feels so spiritually dissonant because we all know this is the case, but all the sources we’ve been trained to look to for information and context are acting like everything’s perfectly fine. They’re painting a cheery picture over reality while every normal person is staring at the giant black cracks that keep appearing in the paint job.

     

     

    Which tells you all you need to know about the competency of the people who are steering the bus. The people in charge are just going to keep driving this thing into the ground until there’s nothing left to save. If there’s going to be a world-saving revolution, it’s going to come from we ordinary people who are willing to acknowledge reality, not from the oligarchs and empire managers presently steering things who have been blinded by the pursuit of profit and power.

     

     

    We either find some way to get their hands off the steering wheel and take control, or we find ourselves confronting the future horrors they’ve been discouraging us from thinking about while they drive us to our doom.

    Dedryk Boyata, after a similar word from Brendan, hit the gym and progressed from elegant but slightly shaky to elegant and commanding.

    Ah the old deflection tactics. Shift the argument when you’ve been found wanting. Martin O’Neill says that he’s worried about the lack of physicality in the Celtic squad but ole Celtic Mac knows better than Martin O’Neill does.

    Burnley,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Would have been more confident if we had sorted the midfield.We knew Engels was leaving,and for some obscure reason,never made an attempt to replace him.We have no legs in midfield.No one with that skill to sit and do that job.Hopefully,I am worrying for nothing,but United hitting our woodwork 5 timrs and missing a few chances wories me.

    We are sadly lacking some physical presence in midfield and our back four were very worrying on Saturday, possibly partly because of our midfield.

     

     

    The first time DU hit the post our MF were 5 yards up the field from the DU MF.

     

     

    I don’t rate Ralston but he’s a better option than Donovan and Scales at LB is another no no.

     

     

    GK, RB and a couple of strong MF needed urgently.

     

     

    Once again, I feel we have neglected key positions before a CL qualifier.

     

     

    I think it is deliberate.

    I hope young Donovan doesn’t become the latest Escaped goat in the team. He is a young lad and has to be given the opportunity to develop, otherwise, what’s the point? If he doesn’t play he doesn’t develop. The same goes for Dane Murray. We need to give these boys a chance to prove themselves and we can’t judge them on a few minutes here and there or the occasional game before being put back on the bench. Let them play and give them encouragement.

    You have completely misinterpreted Martin O’Neill’s thoughts re “physicality”. Probably not deliberately simply by missing the point he was making, one which looking back, he made ‘before’ he took over the reins @ Celtic back in October 2024. He was talking about the team and the squad he was inheriting. Only a fool would think otherwise. You fit that bill as you did for much of last season as indeed I pointed out on several of occasions on here. Tant Pis. Some of us on here made the same point as a comparator, vis a vis say St Mirren or Hearts as were, or say the average height of Dundee United’s players. Tounetki is never going to be as “physical” as Alan Thompson, again only a fool would think otherwise.

     

    As to “deflection” it was you, in response to Spikeysauldman who proferred your alternative theory re the firebomb attack on the home of our former CEO not me, absent of fact, founded on ill informed rumour and speculation. I could ask you to develop your nonsense further (cui bono) but to do so would give some credence to your idiocy, suffice to say that that the attack was carried out by misinformed and misguided but highly dangerous individuals. The type of of which sometime end up in the likes of Spain. Deluded.
