On a serious note I am curious re centre mid. It feels like we really need a centre mid but then what is the point of Ox ?
Left back cover and a keeper are real priorities though. As is deciding our best CB partnership.

Of the new bhoys Hassan looked to a certain extent a player who hadn’t seen a compeitive match since the world cup and was finding his feet, he will be a great asset when that occurs.
Baur looked the real deal from the time he hit tha park – very like Calmac to my way of thinking and a hardy wee ghuy – certainly seen aspects of the technical ability and box-to-box middy we need.

MO’N&Co obviously doing some canny squad management for the UCL qualifier… with the disarray in midfield compounded by the Ox’s UEFA ban, we must hope our highly impressive frontline can do the damage for us…
Is there an argument to bring Reo back in the starting line up for Wednesday? Not convinced myself but.!?

A strong result but share the concern that it way to easy to get to our back line. Better teams etc etc is a worry with this set up.
We perhaps don’t have the specialist in that DM role yet but surely we can set up in a way that gives a little more protection and cut down space for opponents.
We look to have a real threat in the front four so do we need to throw in two FBs and another middie in to every attack? I hope we attack strongly on Wednesday but with a little control.
BTW the steroid chat about Tounekti is absolute BS. Poster said he would benefit from hitting the gym and adding strength – a perfectly normal observation I would have thought. Along comes wind up merchant and accuses the poster of suggesting Tounekti take steroids…….. You couldn’t make up the utter pish some people talk and the speed with which they look to criticise another poster. Take a look at yourself……

There is what I would call The Emperor’s New Clothes phenomena across the Celtic support.
It begins after a few games when a new player has not set the heather on fire but has shown the occasional spark.
One lot of supporters with minds of their own and no connection to The Board do not see any heather on fire, the other see the odd spark as a fire.
The latter see Engels as the Emperor in new clothes, the former see the Emperor in his altogether struggling to tackle a fish supper.

Well, there is one lot of “supporters”, as you refer to them, that certainly have for over three years now have been running an agenda against our then manager – a myopic divisive campaign.
You will see around your post several examples, as you say EK bhoy yet also Tim Malone etc…
The concept that their was a huge improvement in Arne Engels under MO’N is just carrying on with the divisive agenda.
Now, Arne’s stamina and physicality improved consistently in his time at Celtic, yet the idea he blossomed overnight into a 25 mn player under Martin does not wash – Martin fanbhoys like me, need no reminding of the great man’s talents but that profit was not solely on him…
Nottingham Forest came in for Arne when he was under Wilfried Nancy…
Arne put in great displays in the UCL particularly in Bergamo and the Allianz Arena not to mention a great performance against RB Leipzig at Celtic Park…
Displays well beyond his years.
He was a high value development player, a young player who developed.
My take on it, as recently stated, was Arne Engels was a great proof of concept.
Not because he set the heather alight but rather the opposite – he came in and you could even say gingerly started, the price tag and the haters (Adam Idah (c)) not helping.
Yet over his two seasons he made contributions both from the bench and as a starter – establishing himself with a few others as competing for the two starting berths beside the evergreen Calmac.
Ending as a midfield stalwart was just part of his progression, rather than any waving of magic wands – and no one is over hyping the guy to follow some agenda….
He was no Matt O’Riley (although he may well become the better player) yet he proved quality over quantity works as well for development signings as it does for the “oven ready” variety.

Just to help out Micheal Stewart re what football law disallowed the Falkirk ‘ goal’ , that would be the law relating to deliberate handball .. hope that it clears things up … but I doubt it.

Would have been 5-0, struck me as soon as they said there was no added time yet 5 substitutions? Tayside had that Tommy Burns Thursday buzz, Celtic and new found ‘quality’ so badly missing last season, including in two Tannadice defeats.
It’s like Celtic again the away support were phenomenal, the contrast to last season under four different managerial spells, says it all. It’s not MON’s miracle anymore, that was last year, with a deflated squad that breanged over the line with a magnificent seven. The MON / Shaun effect is bringing the best out of the existing squad, and the support.
Benjamin Nygren a walking advert for ‘whoever it was’ that scouted him. A good player, in a struggling team, looks great in a good side, with newfound team mates. It was always going to be CCV when fit with Trusty or Scales, the former Spurs man brings calm to the defence, but we’ll need cover for Kieran. Seb Tounekti now an ‘actual’ £5M winger, must be that MON / Shaun influence, we’re once again in rude health with “ millions of wingers ”.
Camilo Duran is a serious player, Hogh will score for fun in the SPL, but on Wednesday we play a much better side. At least this year, at long last the supporters have been “ listened to “ our survey said new strikers, new pies were just a bonus.

Not great news regarding the Ox. Already weakened in midfield for the European games. I think we’ll definitely start with Baur. He looked good, albeit gave the ball away a couple of times. I thought Hatate would have got some game time, with Wednesday in mind. Two very tight matches coming up.
A lot of comments about us being shaky at the back yesterday. In fact, we did not control midfield which made us look shaky at the back. The defenders are fine, but they need cover. We need a ball-winning midfielder but won’t get one by Wednesday. A midfield of CalMac, Nygren and Baur looks most likely for Wednesday. Ok, but not exactly muscle-bound.
Our forward line is exciting but Tounetki can’t defend. I would play Yang if fit. He tracks back and offers more cover in the middle. I have no idea how good LASK are, but they seem dominant in Austria. I fear if we go gung-ho they could pass through us and we could lose a goal or two before we know it (as we nearly did yesterday).
Not pessimistic, but we’ve seen this movie before. Keep it tight in the middle and we should have enough up front to get goals, even late in the game. n the meantime replace Engels with a really tough baller. My only big ask for the rest of the window.
Not too sorry to see Engels go, and pleased he did so in good grace, talking up the club. Message clear to other promising players – you will develop here and they will sell you on to a big English club. Fair enough (although timing not great). I note the Evening Standard is reporting the fee at £25 million; more than the SMSM is prepared to admit to – of course.
O’Neill was quick to make clear that it was merely a precaution and appeared far less concerned than some supporters may have been before the game.
He said: “Yang was, he was really stiff, very, very stiff after training on Thursday, yeah, Thursday, and missed yesterday’s training.
“But we’re hoping that he should be OK for Wednesday.”
VAR is good for Celtic,
If you listened elsewhere they’d certainly make a case for VAR being good to us. It’s not a question of favour, it’s a question of levelling. Before VAR and assistance from technology most referees would have likely given handball against Kasper Hogh. Leaving the scrutiny of the handball law to VAR has levelled the playing field. The rule, like offside fluctuates especially after a World Cup , where Associations get trendy, with the rules.
Paul67 did an article when VAR was introduced way back, interpreting the rules of the game by the letter of the law would be good for Celtic. He got that right, probably because it was born from a Celtic injustice and the existence of those “ honest mistakes “ that VAR takes out.
The rules are categoric including handball, some just don’t get it, when they appear to ‘consistently’ favour Celtic.

RE Engels fee ….. Every transfer mentioned has add ons . There is bound to be add ons for Engels too . Helping West Ham to promotion being an obvious one . Wouldn’t surprise me if it topped £25m.
Last season we approached games with little threat up front and very little on the bench. Withe addition of Hassan, Duran and Hogh we have transformed into a team with a potent attack force and they are just getting started.
With Jota, Tounekti. Yang and Osmand also in the mix then the problem is going to be managing their expectations on game time. The new guys did not come to sit on the bench.
Curious, definitely never seen a game where we win 4-0 and the opposition, hit the woodwork five times. There’s always a first , at the end the of the day poor the efforts were somewhat cruelly just five shots off target.

I remember Celtic had the ball in the net 3 times from kyogo if I remember correctly in a fairly recent euro tie, none counted as they were offside some only a wee bit but offside so the didn’t count and weren’t goals, tough shit hitting the woodwork it doesn’t count.
We need an athletic Centre midfielder pronto. Looks to me Baur is very similar to callum granted 20 minutes of action ,so we need someone not bombing too far forward

Agree, I used to love ‘the Shed’ at Tannadice, it’s Celtic supporters all round now. A happy hunting ground in the Celtic story, for sure.
Yes, we’re in a transitional year as discussed previously. BR ‘even nodded through Nygren at £1.7M that’s the way it works at big clubs, ‘recommending’ players comes from various sources at Celtic. Every transfer is a punt, but MON is happily ‘nodding through’ quality established players, so far.

Really delighted that we won last night and played so well going forward. We took our chances really well. There were certain aspects of the game though that I felt uneasy about:
United hit our post twice before we scored in the first half. We need to stop giving up these chances. Better teams will punish us.
United hit our crossbar three times in the second half. Two of these shots were from outside the box and I feel that our midfield are not doing enough to prevent teams playing through them. The headed attempt which hit the bar came also from a cross from distance and falls into the same category.
I also think that United should have had a penalty for the ball hitting Ox’s (?) arm and that Duran’s goal should have been disallowed for the ball striking Hogh’s arm beforehand. The rules covering hand ball incidents are chaotic and change from one year to the next and obviously from one game to the next as fans keep citing similar incidents in recent games where a different decision was given. Nobody knows what to expect anymore.
The rule needs to be simplified so that everyone can understand it. Every handball where the ball strikes the arm or hand below the T-shirt line and the arm is in an unnatural position away from the body should be a penalty in my opinion. The game is becoming farcical and our wins are being spoiled by the controversy following these decisions which happened to favour us last night.

Following our game last night Torino were playing in the Copa Italia. Gineitis was playing so I decided to watch the first half. He’s absolutely huge. Patrolled the middle third of the pitch. Has a long stride and covered ground to assist the attack or get back into defence quickly. Didn’t get involved in any tackles and I wondered if he was protecting himself to to transfer interest from ourselves and Salzburg. For such a big guy, his coach didn’t have him inside the opponents box at corners where I assumed he might be a threat. Instead he took up position on the edge of the box with another teammate. He is left footed. All in all I found it difficult to get a true sense of how good he might be for us based on 45 mins. I wasn’t invested in the game enough to watch the second half. Torino led 1-0 at half time.
The handball decisions , we’re to the letter of the laws , that they favoured Celtic was neither here nor there , the pundits and media should know the laws , what upset them is who they were for .

For me MoR had the spark that made him a £25m player.
His career since leaving suggests that in other leagues he lacks that vital spark, ochone, ochone.
Conversely perhaps Engels ability to do lots of running stuff I never saw him do or come out of a tussle with the ball is just what is needed in England.

On BR I stopped enjoying the horseshoe stuff after a while and still do when done by MoN team.
Perhaps when players position their foot and stance to go forward as an option on receiving the ball things can only get better in the horshoe aspect.

Rules are rules (whether they be good or bad rules) and we weren’t granted any ‘favours’at the second goal , just as DU weren’t penalised in any way. Both teams got the correct outcome under the rules . If DU had scored in identical circumstances , the goal would have stood
Only those resenting Celtic scoring that goal are outraged .
Midfield links still but no solid offers for the Canadian fella Sigur or the Lithuanian laddie Gineitis it would appear ideallay I would buy both as would cost less than half of what we got for Arne and Sigur can also play right back.
