Dunfermline debacle caution ahead of Motherwell

996

Do you remember the game after the Cluj Champions League debacle last August?  Of course you do, you are still chasing the cold from you bones, it was a League Cup encounter with Dunfermline at Celtic Park, where the Championship club took the game to extra time.  The game, the only domestic cup tie in 34 games we have not won in 90 minutes, was six minutes from going to penalties before James Forrest settled things.

I don’t know what happened in the dressing room between Cluj and Dunfermline but I cannot imagine it is a happier workplace this week.  This is Celtic and everything goes on the line every game.  Let’s not have a repeat of the Dunfermline performance.

I know a few Motherwell fans and they are unanimous in their praise of David Turnbull, their star 21-year-old midfielder who joined Celtic on a reported £3m deal yesterday.  Turnbull originally signed for Celtic in June last year, before failing a medical.  A knee operation, and the best part of a year in recuperation, saw him clinch his dream move yesterday.

The question now for the manager is, how does he shape his midfield?  Therein lies the answer to our season.

Welcome to Celtic, David.

You likened Neil Lennon to a child abuser and you think I’ve got a warped mind?

    Aye, very good, GTF.

  2. ROLLING_STONE on 28TH AUGUST 2020 2:46 PM

How was it twisted by JJ?

    __

If you watch Tierney talk about it himself I’d suggest that you do.

It was on the Open Goal Keeping it on the Ground interview on Youtube. You don’t need to watch the whole thing. If you skip to about 58 minutes he starts talking about the injuries.

Effectively Juco James paints the picture of Neil Lennon and Scott Brown forcing Kieran Tierney to play. Telling him to “suck it up” when he doesn’t want to.

Tierney makes it clear that he wanted to play. Some players, such as Hayes advised him not to. Tom Rogic told Tierney to tell Celtic he couldn’t play. Tierney admits he refused to do so.

KT just wanted to play for Celtic. Neil Lennon said he needed him for the Hearts game and Tierney came through it fine. Played the next game.

When KT phoned up Brown on the day of the Aberdeen game he had trained all week to play and declared himself fit. He phoned up Brown for encouragement. Asked him, “how am I gonna get through this?” and Brown told him “you’ll be fine”

Tierney played the Aberdeen game. Came through it. Played more games towards the end of the season. The sky didn’t fall in. Tierney didn’t die.

Juco James said Tierney’s body required “18 months to heal” after that. That’s not what Tierney said. In fact, the major injury that kept KT out at Arsenal was a shoulder injury he got from landing on it in a game.

Maybe Juco James can use his advance analytics to show me where the hernia connects to the shoulder?

As for KT’s words on Neil Lennon he said he was “amazing” and wished he played under him for longer.

I haven’t seen the Devlin comments about players and personal coaches first hand. I’ll wait to see it myself rather than trust Juco James on it.

No. YOU have. You allowed the Huns hjacking of such a thing to trigger something in your head (troll, Hun, blog, etc etc). I can’t control that warped thought process. That one you need to sort yourself.

I’m certainly not going to GTF so scroll by and let’s get the blog back on track.

In KT’s interview he also mentioned that he has been in direct contact with the Arsenal executives- they have offered to meet up, go for meals, and made sure to check that he is settling in well; all for a Scot living in London- hardly a culture change.

He was then asked if he had a relationship with the Celtic executives. Long story short, nope! He said he wouldn’t even know how to address them, I.e. like a schoolboy.

Makes you wonder what support was offered up to She’d, Soro etc and probably explains how the hell Boli can go Awol without anyone knowing where the hell he is.

Again, for me it’s another example of our club living in the past. A board room of executives suited to running a club in the 80s. Completey detached from the team, archaic dinosaurs, with a pretty high opinion of themselves as well.

We talk of Moneyball. That’s data driven. There is not a chance that’s what is happening behind the scenes at CP.

    ——-

Our Board are ill-equipped to take Celtic beyond our current European limits. They do not have the knowledge or experience. The size of the fan base gives a platform to dominate in Scotland. Bare in mind the scotland is a footballing backwater locked in the past. We have uppity middle aged men and a token women in our boardroom who offer very little. You have the likes of Brian Wilson panning the SNP in the Herald and then faux outrage when test event ideas are kiboshed. We need wholesale changes in the boardroom before we find ourselves a long way behind our European peers.

Our custodians are too busy patting themselves on the back for staying ahead of a new club that the majority of the fanbase either directly or inadvertently give credence. Lawwell and Lennon may see out the season but we need forward planning now. Both have had enough chances and have squandered many millions. Modernise or more of the same. By my calculations we have made the UCL twice from the last seven attempts. On the two occasions we made it by the skin or our teeth as was the occasion before that (Karagandy). Something is far wrong and it needs action. Hopefully Desmond can see it and enforces change.

I read back your comment and there is absolutely no blame attached to you for making it, I can see it was not meant in any sinister way

However Frank Terry also has a point. It was an unfortunate choice of words and in the World we live in today we all need to be careful.

Huns do read these pages particularly when we have a bad result.

I can guarantee you any Hun who comes across your comment will copy & paste it & share it with his mates.

  8. Was talking to a Sevco supporter earlier, probably the only one I know, and he said he wasn’t going to mention about what has happened so far this season oor getting his hopes up because he knows Sevco are sh*t as well

So there you have it, whoever is less sh*t this season will win the league

  9. CorkCelt,

I can’t measure myself by the most warped hun minds out there. I’m not wired in that way. When writing my post that narrative was so far from my mind you won’t believe it. It will stay that way.

If you guys have some trigger to that narrative you are approaching it all wrong. Don’t lie down with the dogs.

Can’t make myself any clearer. Don’t let their warped minds shape your honest actions.

  11. Big Wavy, You make your own decisions about what way you want to express yourself, I am not a Moderator nor do I want to be.

I am not acting holier then though, I have used phrases & made posts that I regretted & have had posts deleted (not too many mind)..

However I feel the phrase * Like an abusive stepfather* even though it was clear that you were referring to verbal abuse was an unfortunate choice and if I had written it, I would be requesting The Moderator to delete it.

Your post, your choice and that’s my last word on it.

  12. WEEBOBBYCOLLINS

Cmon think you are a bit OTT there no one wants Neil to lose 10IAR to prove a point get a grip. I thought at the time ( and still do ) that Neil was a bad and lazy appointment by Lawell . Still want him to win though but for me his time is up. Make the change early in the season because what NEIL HAS COME OUT AND SAID IS GONNA FESTER IN THAT DRESSING ROOM .

  13. CorkCelt,

I have used that phrase countless times to stress how people are wired for consistency and how in relationships (at work) you can’t move from anger and vitriol to high levels of praise as it confuses and undermines you as a leader. Nobody bats an eyelid when it’s used.

The huns have clearly penetrated our psyche as the same phrase has you and Frankterry rushing off to a dark place. I’m not carrying that can.

I don’t regret a thing. I’m caught up in the warped sh*t the dark side of the hun has done to some of our fans, which is a pity.

HH to you. Let’s get back to the football.

  14. At the time of Lenny’s appointment, he wouldn’t have been my choice but he has done OK up to now.

Cal Mac at left back was horrendous and while Christie up front was not quite as bad it wasn’t good either.

His after match reaction was very unfortunate & right now it’s hard to know what is best for the Club.

I will support Lenny as long as he is Manager and will not be calling for his resignation.

I have to admit if he was sacked I wouldn’t be devastated but I hope he gets his act together & is the one to lead us to 10 in a row.

  15. Paul67 et al

No bona fide Celtic supporter wants the club to fail.

That said this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for us which….

only comes along once in a lifetime.

If the Board, the team Management, and the Players act professionally, would we all want to be there when history is made?

    Yes we would

    If we could

    We surely would

  16. weebobbycollins on

Ok….suppose Neil gets sacked and we get someone in who doesn’t achieve the desired 10.

Who gets the blame? Neil? The new guy? or Lawwell?

  17. No one on here wants to jeopardise 10 IAR just to be able to say, I told you so.

Those who want a better manager/coach do so because we want to see 10 IAR.

Unimpressed by the manager’s laters press conference. Played well the other night, unlucky….seemed disinterested. Time to go Neil, too much at stake.

  19. Rock Tree Bhoy on

We’ve all heard it said from various sources, the training and fitness programme that was in place during Brendan’s time has been thrown out and replaced with a much inferior training and fitness programme,

now normally I would be dismissing such talk as drivel, but for example with Patrick Kimala bought in January no injuries to speak of yet not match fit in August – it makes you wonder that perhaps there is in fact some truth in it.

As things stand, the three biggest risks to 10 IAR are

would add – our transfer signing policy

  23. Up to a point Jamesgang, but no guarantee that a new Boss coming in would hit the ground running.

It happens but the opposite also happens , there could be a bedding in period.

With the possibility of a Covid restricted season every point is a prisoner from here on.

I would definitely feel the Club would be better served by a new Manager next season.

  24. BAYERN MUNICH have announced the signing of Celtic’s Barry Hepburn, with the winger set to join up with the club’s under-17 squad.

  25. Rock Tree Bhoy – the fitness and coaching theme keeps niggling away in the background. Something is not right with it. Neil acknowledged when he came back that he was inheriting a set up vastly superior to that which he had known. He said he wanted to keep that but adjust the tactics in games to move the ball back to front faster.

My fear is that in the ensuing months the standards slipped. Less attention paid to individual fitness drills, diet and nutrition and coaching. Less attention paid to gathering info on the opposition etc.

By all accounts, Lenny is more like MoN. Someone who leaves the training stuff to his team to take care of.

That might be really effective if we had a Germanic-style coaching team drilling our players into man-machines, organising them to know how to work as a unit. How to defend corners, how to attack corners, how to make throw ins count and keep possession when you get them etc

We have JK and Master Strachan.

I’d look disinterested too if I had to sit in front of the half-wits who pass themselves off as ‘journalists’ and answer their inane questions.

Corkcelt…”With the possibility of a Covid restricted season every point is a prisoner from here on.”

A very valid observation. What happened to Thistle could happen to us…

That is a worst case scenario for us…

  28. The priority has to be getting a good result against Motherwell on Sunday. Maybe some second half game time for our new Bhoy, given he is match fit, not in the Scotland squad, and we do not have another league game for a fortnight. We’ll find out who we play in the Europa League 3rd qualifier Tuesday and that game is nearly a month away. A window of opportunity. Or as that famous anti-crime advert from way back used to say…

    “Open windae?” “That’s Handy”.

The Blogger @ 6.16…spot on! MoN rang rings round them and said nothing…WGS was sardonic and not slow to turn on them with a tongue lashing. Gerry McCulloch and bbc’s John Barnes will vouch for that. Neil is well liked by them because he is quite open and tolerant of their daft questions…

There was an occasion when Bobo was the player assigned to the pre-match press conference. He told the hacks that Alan Thompson was fit and was in the team after some time out injured. MoN came in afterwards and was asked about Thommo…he said he wasn’t sure if he would play. When told what Bobo had said, he replied in typical Martin style, “Well, that’s the last time I’ll let Bobo do it.”😂
