Dunfermline debacle caution ahead of Motherwell

996

Do you remember the game after the Cluj Champions League debacle last August?  Of course you do, you are still chasing the cold from you bones, it was a League Cup encounter with Dunfermline at Celtic Park, where the Championship club took the game to extra time.  The game, the only domestic cup tie in 34 games we have not won in 90 minutes, was six minutes from going to penalties before James Forrest settled things.

I don’t know what happened in the dressing room between Cluj and Dunfermline but I cannot imagine it is a happier workplace this week.  This is Celtic and everything goes on the line every game.  Let’s not have a repeat of the Dunfermline performance.

I know a few Motherwell fans and they are unanimous in their praise of David Turnbull, their star 21-year-old midfielder who joined Celtic on a reported £3m deal yesterday.  Turnbull originally signed for Celtic in June last year, before failing a medical.  A knee operation, and the best part of a year in recuperation, saw him clinch his dream move yesterday.

The question now for the manager is, how does he shape his midfield?  Therein lies the answer to our season.

Welcome to Celtic, David.

He spoke succinctly with great confidence and told thum nothin’.

  2. Some of the comments about our manager since Wednesday have been in my opinion pretty poor (at best) I am 100% behind our manager … mistakes have been made and will be made again … as far as I am concerned and only my opinion there are far too many Celtic fans just waiting on our manager to waver … and actually enjoy it when they do … it’s not coincidence that new posters appear, or irregular posters appear or even some posters from other places have just found a reason to let us know how things are … when Neil and our team are winning I can assure you they are reading but not posting as they have no interest when the team are winning … within the blog unwritten rules P67 leaves his door open … better Bhoy than me … I’d hunt them all … argue all day about Celtic & the teams performances but cheap digs at our manager or posting just because Celtic don’t win … how sad must that Celtic supporting life be

Anyhow … posted early as I said dropped in and out since Wednesday and it’s probably the worst I have read at times .., anyhow onto Sunday have a good weekend fellow Celts

    Faithful through and though …

  3. all about planning – Celtic have continually failed to plan and get players in Tim to bed in for competition.

We have been faffing around for over a month with Shane Duffy – a player who wants to come and a position we desperately need filled. Players like him are worth paying more for, WHY? because he is familiar with the Celtic cause and meaning of the 10. An extra 2million would be priceless.

Ajeti – we faffed around with him for a month before bringing him in – we gambled with champions league qual as a result and it backfired. I personally don’t think he will be a good signing but wish him well.

Left back – FFS why has it taken so long to bring in a proven talent?

This is the root of Lennons frustration – why have players not been moved on , why have critical positions not been filled. Sorry Bhoys but its same old celtic – all about the money.

PS the only exception is when DD steps in and pushes signings over the line – this is not planning but reactionary and opportunistic.

we will get what we deserve this season because this time, at the moment, rangers are miles ahead in their planning!

  4. I’m not one for slagging the players or the coaches no mater haw badly they eff up, I recall defending Tony Mobrey just afore the bagged him, but he needed to go, Lenny is a Celtic man through and through, there are wheans of Celtic men out there but we really wouldn’t want them as our manager, with respect to Lenny, he has been tactically out thought by coaches who are operating on budgets a fraction of what we work with, given this he is failing big time, now if you believe like I do that the manager doesn’t actually sign the players we are into a very very different scenario.

I still believe 100% that we are operating a buy cheap, coach up and hope to sell for big bucks, this has it’s pitfalls, mainly when we buy crap, and we sure have done this over the years.

So at the end of the day , Lenny will not walk nor will he be bagged, but if something were to happen that he goes John Kennedy will be replacing him, that is a FACT.

A definite concern, 4 strikers none of them match fit, for thee most important game of the season,

something isn’t right, from the outside looking in we lack the fundamentals of leadership and planning ahead.

Next game all of a sudden has got a huge profile.

Bankiebhoy…yes, exactly. The journos were wary of MoN but they were at times intimidated by Strachan. He tore a strip off John Barnes for asking a question about the recently departed Tommy Burns after being told not to. Hair dryer stuff. Gerry McCulloch got it in the neck for trying to speak to Boruc when told not to…they couldn’t mess with the wee man…

  14. Disciplinary Tribunal Update | Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo (Celtic FC)

    Friday 28 August 2020

Alleged Party in Breach: Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo (Celtic FC)

    Disciplinary Rules allegedly breached:

Disciplinary Rule 24 – A recognised football body, club, official, Team Official or other member of Team Staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall be subject to and shall comply with the Articles, the Laws of the Game and the rules, procedures and regulations, bye-laws and Decisions of the Scottish FA.

Disciplinary Rule 71 – No recognised football body, club, official, Team Official or other member of Team Staff, player, match official, or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall bring the game into disrepute.

Principal hearing date: Friday 28 August 2020

Outcome: Suspension of 5 matches applied as follows: 3 matches applied immediately and 2 matches suspended until 28 February 2021 and will take effect only in the event that the player is found in breach of Disciplinary Rules 24 and/or 71 during that time period.

  15. The ‘Aberdeen eight’ who broke lockdown rules have each been given a suspended three-game ban.

Celtic’s Boli Bolingoli, who failed to quarantine after a trip to Spain, also had a Scottish FA hearing on Friday, but his fate has yet to be confirmed.

Aberdeen’s Bruce Anderson, Craig Bryson, Sam Cosgrove, Michael Devlin, Jonny Hayes, Matty Kennedy, Dylan McGeouch and Scott McKenna visited a bar on 1 August.

The ban is suspended until 28 February.

And it will only come into effect if they are again charged with bringing football into disrepute or failing to comply with the laws of the game before that date.

Following the eight players’ night out at a city-centre bar linked to a Covid-19 outbreak, two tested positive, and the club had three matches postponed.

In relation to the breaches, Celtic – who had two matches called off as a result of Bolingoli’s transgression – and Aberdeen are being investigated by the SPFL.

  18. When I saw it was Motherwell up next after the Euro debacle I remembered we played Motherwell right after Artmedia. Ended in a 4-4 draw at Fir Park. Our late equaliser probably saved Strachan’s job that day. I can see Turnbull getting thrown into the mix tomorrow. Fit and wants to play for Celtic, no?

im not one of the unionists on here but i think its fair to say nicola sturgeon doesnt like football or its fans

    her roll of dishonour –

1 – commissioned an inquiry after a nothing touchline fracas between lennon and mccoist

2 – banned 2 clubs from playing for 2 weeks after players from their clubs committed non-football related offences. has any other company been banned from doing business for similar indiscretions of an employee?

3 – shafted football when it came to having test events with fans in attendance

4 – banned pubs from having any volume on the telly. that only really punishes football fans and 1 or 2 folk in a pub who watch racing. the telly volume is never on in most other scenarios

  20. My friends in Celtic,

Neil Lennon is a Celtic icon. As is Scott Brown.

What NFL has gone through for the Celtic cause cannot just be ignored or forgotten. We do not ( Or should not ) sack icons.

Hopefully Neil who has always put Celtic first will decide himself when he cannot take the team forward.

As for Scott Brown, ditto. We should remember what he has done for Celtic and when he was the heartbeat who carried us. Again hopefully he will realise that time stops for no man. His future years will surely see him back at Parkhead.

Both will know that results such as Wednesday’s are untenable.

Ah the Shame Game. March 2011.

The Summit was called by Alex Salmond, First Minister, not Nicola Sturgeon.

But it was initiated after the Scottish Cup replay by no less than our old friend Stephen House, Chief Constable of Strathclyde I think it was. Celtic should have had nothing to do with it. But did.

  24. as said previously if Lenny doesn’t rate kilmala and imo we have wasted money on ajeti a player who didn’t want to come and had to be coaxed (happy to be proved wrong) we should have put the sum together and bought a natural goal scorer from Peterborough who does want to play for us.

I did watch the interview before i saw the comments from JD on twitter. I have to say that I am inclined to agree with his conclusions.

I think you may have misinterpreted what he was saying or, at least, why he was shocked and/or angered by what KT said.

It wasn’t that Lenny/Broony were forcing a reticent KT to play- as you note KT would go through a brick wall fo the club; it was that Broony, but particularly Lenny (and BR to an extent) did not take seriously the duty of care owed to KT as a young player with his whole career ahead of him and, when clearly injured with a potentially chronic and career debilitating injury, have the strength to do what was in his best interest. It highlighted a lack of management in dugout and across the club, frankly.

KT was 21 and would do anything for the cause; he needed someone to tell him that, as appreciated as his efforts were, it was neither in the club’s interest or his to persist by playing through the pain.

Your recounting of the interaction between KT and Broony is wrong. KT called him and said he couldn’t even get out of bed! Broony asked him to play. The decision should not have been KT’s or Broony’s (for that matter) to make.

“Tierney didn’t die.” Good to see you are setting such a sensible threshold as to what extent we can push a player physically. I wonder if that logic applies to other jobs? I would assume you wouldn’t make the same comment in relation to Griff and issues of mental health.

The issue again comes back to how the club is run. We ran a 20 year old into the ground to the point where he was advised he could only play weekly at a push- we then played him 3 times a week. Rather than source a proper left back and pay some money, we brought in Izzy (at 34?) on a free. KT was forced to play given the complete lack of quality back up.

Even from the perspective of the cold, calculating ‘sharp suited men’ it was a chump’s move; we severely damaged and depreciated a prime asset. As alluded to in a P67 article around the time KT left, we were happy to get the money as those injuries could have meant that he didn’t have much of a future at the level we all became accustomed to. Says it all really.

Arsenal laughing all the way with getting their potential future captain at a snip for an EPL club.

Not aimed at yourself I haven’t read any of your posts on here since Wednesday … but if you think it was fair enough … maybe hit a nerve

I just think it’s pretty poor when some Celtic fans take the opportunity to have digs at our manager but are happy enough when collecting trophies

If you have a guilty conscience do you think I was referring to your good self ?

It was the personal digs at Neil that I have read in my opinion weren’t the best

As for any “hunting” I was referring to P67 to let everybody have their say and some have even been pretty disparaging to him as much as Neil

  27. But it was initiated after the Scottish Cup replay by no less than our old friend Stephen House, Chief Constable of Strathclyde I think it was. Celtic should have had nothing to do with it. But did.

The first to demand action over the so-called ‘Shame Game’ was a Police Federation man. A Les Gray, I think, who had been ‘appalled’ by the behaviour of fans in a pub in England. It all seemed orchestrated. The dominoes fell far too quickly – the police, the politicians and the press.

  28. ROLLING STONE – good post and I agree with your interpretation. Celtic took advantage of KT’s desire to play, by playing him too often when clearly not fit.

At the opposite end of the age spectrum, Brown is choosing to be made available to play when not fit either.

The history books are littered with 40-year-old ex-athletes who can hardly get out of bed because of being mismanaged by their clubs/coaches and now have bodies more akin to a geriatric.
