Camilo Duran (24) joined the campaign for six-in-a-row this morning and is the most welcome news Celtic have had since the epochal events of May. It has been eight weeks since he played, but he is young and does not look to be carrying much in the way of excess timber, so the three-week run up to our opening fixture of the campaign should be enough to get ready.
Champions League goals last term against Benfica, Ajax, Eintracht and Newcastle raised his profile. By contrast, he scored in only six Azerbaijani league games (10 goals in total), as Qarabag lost only their second title in 13 years.
Every transfer is a risk and this looks like the right level of risk for Celtic. We are never going to acquire a player who has consistently established his credentials, we need to select from a small sample of positive signs. The player has shown what he can achieve at the top level, it is now up to the club to develop him.

There are several things I’m liking about the Camilo Duran signing.
Obviously the UCL goals, a prospect rather than a project, mid-twenties are a good age to assess a player.
Last season we apparently went into the play-offs with the attitude, “we should have enough!?” A forty million pound tie, requires forty million pound tie preperation. Camilo is the first swallow, yet it is an indication we have got the message.
The timing, bringing in a player to have preseason with his team-mates, a hugely important part of the season.
We seem to be bringing our players in so the Manager and coaches can met and see what the player has, before the deal us completed, remember we agreed to sign Joel Mvuka – when MO’N&Co met him, it was renegotiated as a loan to buy – until recruitment is in sync with our requirements, this may have to be a way of minimising mistakes…

Heart of Midlothian can confirm that Cammy Devlin will not be returning to the club.
Cammy was given a deadline by the club to commit to taking up the offer of a new deal, which he has failed to meet, and therefore leaves under freedom of contract.
Cammy joined Hearts in August 2021 and would go on to make 176 appearances in maroon, scoring eight goals.
The club thanks Cammy for his time at Tynecastle Park.

It seems more likely that it was the medical team , rather than MON or SM who changed Mvuka’s deal from permanent to a loan , based on their discovering he had a pre- existing heart issue.

I do hope somebody, somewhere, is working on a proper midfield signing(s) to help the now 33 year old Calum McGregor. We’ve had some good midfield players in recent seasons but Calum is the only one who can regularly take a game by the scruff of the neck. Opponents will attempt to smother him next season so our midfield needs addressed. Apart, of course, from other areas which also require strengthening.
Devlin had a great assist in our 3rd goal on 16 May.

This is essentially investment to keep Rangers compliant with UEFA Financial Sustainability Regulations.
Rangers will have made another loss last year – this has to be covered by owners’ equity to stay within the rules.
