Camilo Duran (24) joined the campaign for six-in-a-row this morning and is the most welcome news Celtic have had since the epochal events of May. It has been eight weeks since he played, but he is young and does not look to be carrying much in the way of excess timber, so the three-week run up to our opening fixture of the campaign should be enough to get ready.
Champions League goals last term against Benfica, Ajax, Eintracht and Newcastle raised his profile. By contrast, he scored in only six Azerbaijani league games (10 goals in total), as Qarabag lost only their second title in 13 years.
Every transfer is a risk and this looks like the right level of risk for Celtic. We are never going to acquire a player who has consistently established his credentials, we need to select from a small sample of positive signs. The player has shown what he can achieve at the top level, it is now up to the club to develop him.

It is a very salient and important point being made ref that this coming season DD and his executives (* There is no board*) need to get a personnel and a structure for the football club, if the club is going to try and regain some respectable European credibility the quality of personnel in the football operation needs to be the targeting of knowledgable people in key positions, this is perfectly legitimate for fan media to continue to question the club about and to monitor as communications from the club are seriously lacking unless they are selling merchandise

As the bus passed through Baillieston, Bob Kelly spotted a young man walking to the match wearing a large green-and-white Celtic scarf.
Kelly recognised him as Willie Goldie, one of Celtic’s reserve goalkeepers, who wasn’t expecting to be involved that day. Goldie was simply heading to the game as a supporter because the reserves weren’t playing.
Impressed by Goldie’s dedication, Kelly ordered the bus to stop and invited him aboard.
Then came the extraordinary part: Kelly instructed manager Jimmy McGrory to play Goldie instead of the planned goalkeeper, John Fallon. According to later accounts, Goldie thought he was just getting a lift to the stadium until he was told he was starting.

Its interesting to me that CSL have asked for a meeting with Celtic.
I was under the impression that they were concentrating mainly on finding lost shareholders and not campaigning.
Personally I thought that stance would not be helpful to their cause nor that the only route for influencing Celtic would be annually of an EGM if enough shares or proxies were accumulated by them.
Perhaps the request for a meeting around the Paradox report is a sign of a change of mind?
I think it is time for the CSL (David Low), STA (Willie Haughey) and The Collective (? ?) who seem to be seeking supporter representation status, to sit around the table and review their approaches and unite around an all embracing professional,not voluntary service, paid for by the support and in doing so create what is needed – a united front.
The house divided is not soley between The Board and the Support, the division is in the support itself.

So some highlights –
Season 71/72, player coach is Bobby Collins, I wonder did all 3 lions play with him at Celtic and Morton ? something else to go research.
Clark is signed in June 71, aged still only 30, Stevie is 34, both are in player/coach roles signed by Hal Stewart, imagine that a chairman who picks the players he wants to sign for the box office, not necessarily who the manager wants,
John had played over 300 games for Celtic since 1959. Stevie signed in 57, played 413 games and scored 242 goals (same as Henke I think ?).
John had 4 caps for Scotland, Stevie 5 with 3 goals, one famously v Brazil.
Clark featured in the Bobby Collins benefit game against Leeds United, (new for me), “and had a good game”, newcomer CVlark is still a fair sweeper”.
Chalmers made his debut v Falkirk, with the telegraph reporting “a class debut, his skills produced clever intricacy, clever passing and good goals and a memorable victory”.
In this game Clark is noted as being quite excellent, tremendous under pressure, installing confidence in the defence.
A week later the two appear at Celtic park, but Clarke scores an own gaol froma Macari cross.
Chalmers scores his first goal in the Texaco cup against Huddesfield.
Soon after Morton trainign at Ibrox, Stevie scorers an equaliser before Jackson scores an own goal, I need to g research that game as well.
All in Clrk playes 28 games, Stevie 41 with 12 goals, moved to Firhill, citing the travel to Greenock was irritating at this stage of his career, he played another 57 games for Partick.
Clark stayed on as coach for another season and in total made 64 Morton appearances.
Nialll concludes, the two players were the ultimate consumate proffesionals .

He was our best January loanee for sure but Alastair Johnston is a much better RB.
His timely return was the biggest factor in our league title victory.
If he and Tony stay fit, RB position is sorted for me.
We have other higher priority positions to address.

MO’N seems to have “got his way” to a limited extent, as is determined to shield the Board and unify the disparate club as best he can.
What the Board do with the respite; time and space Martin has and wil be giving them really points to an existential period for our great club.
They have the resources to make Celtic a great football club again – do they have the will!?
Whatever way that pans out, we have a one off unique season ahead, where we could manage to do some very interesting stuff imo…

Some very good points. These things are all about perspective, I guess, and there are nuances even when we are in agreement.
The relationship between DD and MON is an interesting one. Obviously DD was able to convince MON to return as interim (twice) last season, then felt compelled to give him first right of refusal on the permanent job (fair enough), but the details behind that are curious. MON is nobody’s fool, so he made his decision “eyes wide open”, and he could clearly see all of the dysfunction at the club but still signed up. It might even be possible that he took the job because he knew at that point in time, it was going to be hard for the club to find someone more capable than him to manage through this unique season ahead.
Regardless, I’m not sure that he “got his way”, but he appears to be getting what he negotiated. Even though he attempted to take some blame for the cluster of appointing Maloney and Fozzie, he would have been privately disappointed that it became a bit of a circus. It would have been a condition of his return, and guaranteed either in writing or verbally. The club made an absolute ass of what should’ve been a routine step in the process. Moreover, on the transfer front and specifically in respect of “budget”, I can only imagine that MON had some fairly clear requirements which would not be consistent with any downsizing. He returned knowing that he would be backed, and probably accepted that the club has no HofFO and inadequate other scouting/recruiting resources.
I think that you are 100% correct regarding the “shield” that MON represents for the board, and it should be a great opportunity for the club to heal the rift with the fans, but as yet, there is no sign that they are taking any actions in support of the commitments made last year or since. There is no obvious effort to build fan engagement, and little to suggest that any lessons have been learnt in respect of the broader issues feeding into fan disaffection. That said, as LIONSROARS67 commented, in many ways MON doesn’t care and is the ultimate pragmatist, knowing that in essence it’s only results on the pitch matter – maybe, the perfect leader for the season ahead? I’d agree further with LR67 it is increasingly apparent there is no normally functioning board, and DD simply appears to be running the club through the executive, as MN and CM are demonstrably nothing more than his stooges.
Resources are indeed abundant, so there is no excuse for not building a strong squad and progressing to the UCL group stage. Your phrasing about “doing some interesting stuff” did set me thinking about ambitions beyond purely expenditure on football operations, and I wonder if this is a year where other capital projects might raise to prominence, perhaps as a “see, we told you we were listening” moment.
I’ve been saying for weeks that all of the signals point to significant change, and the level of deferred action from a governance perspective could be somewhat reasonably explained if there were a transaction being negotiated. If that is not the case, then the dysfunction is worrying if not potentially calamitous.
In terms of the club’s ownership it remains a confusing picture. On the one hand we have a billionaire investor that acts as “the owner”, and several other significant investors, none of whom appear to particularly care about the performance of their investment. On the other hand, there is a “be careful what you wish for” warning, as we are likely a prime acquisition target. Our profile will have been heightened by dint of the 49ers Enterprises investment in Sevco, and databases will be full of stats supporting the fact that we are an underperforming asset.
As BSR added, “we’re very much stuck with him is an understatement or we’re lucky to have [him]”.
