GUSTAF LAGERBIELKE has signed a season-long loan deal with Dutch side Twente as he searches for game-time.
The Swedish international centre-back, a £3million recruit from Elfsborg last summer, made just 10 appearances in his debut season.
Lagerbielke knocked back offers from a second Eredivisie outfit, Heerenveen, and Belgian club KV Mechelen to join Twente in a deal which does not contain an option to buy clause.
The 24-year-old defender also rejected the opportunity to return to his homeland with Malmo, who signed his Hoops team-mate Sead Haksabanovic at the beginning of last month.
HEADING OUT…Gustaf Lagerbielke clears from St Mirren’s Alex Gogic in Celtic’s 3-0 win in January.
Brendan Rodgers believes the switch will benefit all parties and the Parkhead gaffer, speaking to the Scottish Sun, said: “To be fair to Gustaf, I think for him to go and play is important.
“It’s been a difficult move for him, but I have to say he’s been absolutely brilliant every day in training.”
The Japanese centre-back didn’t make a solitary appearance for Rodgers’ men last season and has now left Parkhead for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old left-sided operator, signed on a free transfer from Vissel Kobe in January 2023, started only five games for the Hoops.
