DUTCH AND GO FOR MARTIN?

MARTIN O’NEILL watched Celtic win his fourth domestic game during his interim period in charge when Callum McGregor walloped in a memorable stoppage-time points-clincher against St Mirren in Paisley last night.

And then the charismatic Irishman admitted he didn’t know if he would be in the dug-out when the Hoops take on Feyenoord in the Europa League in Rotterdam on Thursday evening.

O’Neill, who answered the call to step in after Brendan Rodgers’ dramatic resignation just under a month ago, is asking the board for a “very quick” decision as they look for a permanent replacement with Frenchman Wilfried Nancy the frontrunner.

Asked if he will be on the flight to the Netherlands, the comeback gaffer, who spent five years in the post when he initially arrived in the summer of 2000, answered: “That is a very good point.

I’LL GET MY COAT…Martin O’Neill prepares for a cold night in Paisley.

“We’re speaking about this ad nauseam now.

“The answer is this: The game is on Thursday so the plane leaves on Wednesday. They better make their minds up very quickly.”

Reflecting on a hard-fought three points in the dress rehearsal for next month’s Premier Sports League Cup Final, O’Neill, speaking to Sky Sports, continued: “Overall, I thought we didn’t create enough.

“But Callum comes up with an absolute wonder goal.

“St Mirren played exactly like we thought they would. I’m delighted we’ve won, but we can do much better.”

The 73-year-old team chief added: “You’ve got to take care of the ball, we didn’t do that for most of the match.

“We went to the very end of the game, that was great in that sense.

“One thing we don’t lack is unity within the dressing room. We won in the end when a draw was perhaps the fair result.”
