Can we purge all negative overtones today, make sure we start tomorrow with a clean sheet? Injuries and suspensions are part of the game, we accept them and plan how to win important games.
Celtic are at their best when they are up against it, when everyone knows that nothing short of a herculean effort is required. This is the case tomorrow. The requirement is straightforward enough: win your personal battle, inhibit one of the best teams we will play this season, take control of midfield and find spaces in the Ajax defence to exploit.
We have more than enough players bursting to set about this task.
Ajax had a taxing game on Saturday, scoring late to secure a draw away to top of the table Twente. Although fourth, they are one of six teams no more than two points off the pace in what is currently one of Europe’s tightest leagues, but there is a fragility about Ajax.
The game against Twente was their first away match after a run of four home games, three of which were won comfortably, while they were denied a win against Milan by a ridiculous penalty in added time. Their away form, however, has been less than impressive; they are still waiting for their first win away from the Amsterdam ArenA this season. As a result, they travel to Celtic Park with the same trepidation they travelled to Groningen, Heerenveen, Twente, AZ, Barca and PSV, a series of games which returned three draws and three defeats.
Dutch media have also been reminding them of a quirky record to maintain. While Celtic eliminated Ajax the last twice the teams met in European Cup/Champions League duty, the Dutch avoided defeat on both games at Celtic Park. For us, this is a meaningless fact, but it is an added burden of expectation on Ajax.

Mini St. John Doyle Fund:
As you know we started donating to get four tickets for the Ryan Family to sit together at the Ajax game on 22nd Oct. We achieved this aim and we also sent a lovely floral tribute, which was much appreciate, it simply said ‘CQN’.
We have continued with the donations and I will continue to accept these up to the Ajax game on 22nd October. The monies will then be given from ‘CQN’ to the ‘Mini St. John Doyle’ Fund, set up in memory of Sean who was stillborn in 2000. It was George and Linda’s dream to buy two log cabins in Loch Lomomd for families who have suffered similar heartache to have a place to go for some respite.
As of this evening you have donated a staggering £1,503.80, phenomenal amount from George’s extended family. We have paid for the tickets and floral tribute from this amount. To date £1.249.30 will be given to the ‘Mini St. John Doyle Fund’ from you.
I know there are donations in transit and some have said that they will give money at the Ajax game; therefore I will continue to accept donations until then. After this you final amount will be given to the ‘Mini St. John Doyle’ Fund.

were does the Mihal name come from bud.
IMO Lenny should not be critical of managers / players in terms of how they approach the game – Hibs fouled their want through a match simply because we have more quality and their only way to survive is to hack.
This is why we have referees , linesmen and 4th officials – they allowed this to go on , they are the governance of the game.
Neil needs to be smarter with his communication – he had the perfect opportunity on the back of very strict UEFA rulings to challenge how the game is “allowed” to be played in scotland.
Citing player development and teams transition to european football as his strategic thought for scottish football to advance. We need a drastic change in Scotland and celtic , lawell , SFA etc need to address asap .
As an expat I feel strange commenting on purely local issues such as minimum/living wages paid to employees, direct or otherwise.
However, you knew that was coming,
I don’t see why this is being used as yet another cudgel to beat Peter Lawell.
Why not use it to decry the wages and bonuses paid to the players, coaching and management staff?
Our club is well run and bonuses for players staff and directors are obviously in line with their KPIs and achievements.
We purport to be a big European club and we expect to recruit and pay in line with our counterparts in the EPL and other European set ups.
Therefore to retain our top management we need to compete with the likes of Arsenal, Wigan, Swansea, Cardiff et alii.

Does that mean I lift the silverware?
Have not contributed for a very long time (under a different name: neveralone) but have a new device and thought I’d re-register.
I think I’m ‘middle of the range’: sometimes a glass half full guy, sometimes half empty so I reckon there’s a good chance I’ll fall out with everyone. :-)
Confident of a Celtic victory tomorrow, 2-0. Anyone know what price I’d get on that?

I agree with you I’m only pointing out that it is what it is……?
My first months salary offshore in 1984 was almost a years salary to my newly qualified RN cousin at the Victoria, Kirkcaldy…….
Its a societal issue…..we value oil & gas more than nurses (in my case)

Can anyone repost the link to the “Ghost Goal” from earlier today. Thanks, Hail Hail Hebcelt
Bournesouprecipe @13.06………Enjoyed that clip of ’82 game. We seem to be a bit of a bogie team for Ajax. Great to see the players wearing proper shorts not like the granny drawers they wear to-day.

badab even better!!!
its no shug the dug (don,t be saying that wrong) but here,s one for our Top Man…braw!
Piddlin’ Pete
A famous dog once came to town
Known to his friends as Pete
His pedigree was ten yards long
His looks were hard to beat
And as he trotted down the road
’twas beautiful to see
His work at every corner
Every post and every tree
He never missed a land mark
He never missed a post
For piddling was his masterpiece
And piddling pleased him most
The city dogs stood looking on
In deep and jealous rage
To see this little country dog
The piddler of his age
They smelt his efforts one by one
They smelt him two by two
But noble Pete in high disdain
Stood still ’til they were through
Then when they’d smelt him everywhere
The praise for him ran high
But when one smelt him underneath
Pete piddled in his eye
Just then to show these city dogs
He didn’t care a damn
He strolled into the grocers shop
And piddled on the ham
He piddled on the cornflakes
He piddled on the floor
And when the grocer threw him out
He piddled up the door
Behind him all the city dogs
Debated what to do
They’d hold a piddling carnival
The hoop they’d put him through
They showed him all the piddling posts
They knew about the town
And off they set with many a wink
To wear the stranger down
But Pete was with them all the way
With vigour and with vim
A thousand piddles more or less
Were all the same to him
And on and on went noble Pete
As tireless as a windmill
And very soon those city dogs
Were piddled to a standstill
Then Pete an exhibition gave
Of all the ways to piddle
With double drips and fancy flips
And now and then a dribble
The city dogs said farewell Pete
Your piddling did defeat us
But no one ever put them wise
That Pete… had diabetes.
