Dysfunctional Amsterdam

770

Three weeks ago there was little argument against the observation that Ajax had the worst European travelling support we have seen at Celtic Park – half a century of history.  Attacks on Celtic fans by a roaming gang on Tuesday night was not a surprise.  The banner, which Uefa are trying to ignore, but will surely be shamed into doing something about, was offensive and, in most jurisdictions, a criminal offense.

When the police collaborate it’s hard not to verge into the realms of branding a society “dysfunctional”.  Amsterdam is wealthy, affluent, liberal but intolerant, badly policed and violent.  The visit of Celtic fans passed with less incident (and arrest of visitors) than most visiting fans endured in recent seasons.

Visit Bruges instead.

… some of the worst sectarian, racist and anti-Semitic behaviour I have witnessed in many years, I experienced this week.

  4. Wonder who’s house Jonniem broke into to get internet access? More to the point how can he manage to type after dragging his bleeding knuckles from the floor to where the keyboard is. Even more to the point, did he learn to use a computer while in the nick after wrecking Manchester?

Only lasted a day, bad enough that I had to fetch a couple of chairs out of the pool, the swing things had their material ripped of them, and a few plants in their pots were broken.

The dirt in the pool took me a few hours to clean, the cover will be going on over the weekend.

    Summer is defo over >}

Was still warm enough today mind you, it was in the mid 20s this afternoon, but getting much colder in the night, still have not lit the stove yet, that will be a month or so away.

    TET,

Jeez, even yer misery makes me jealous.

Today was a balmy 7c – yesterday had a breeze blown by a bitter witch – freezed my tommies down to melon size

They don’t call me big baw McGraw frae the East Whitburn pool team fur nuthin

  10. JQB

    So you play the pool.

Thinking of buying a table just now, a bloke a few towns away is selling one, way too much he wants, but I will get him down.

It’s only a 6 x 3, would have liked a bigger wan, but at around a couple of hundred euros, it’s a decent deal, he currently wants 300, not a hope.

I love the game, when I worked on the rigs, I spent most of my time not working, I probably worked one day in ten, so I spent all teh time in the games room playing pool, got reasonable decent at it, but like everything else, you need to keep at it.

    As for the melons, there is a field about a hundred yards away from me with melons that would fear ye, yer man will be picking them in the next week or so, and I will not tell you a lie, the smallest would be about a dozen kilos, and they are there for the picking, only so much melons you can eat >}

As big G64 will testify, I had a misspent youth on a pool table!. Don’t buy a 6″ x 3″. Not worth the length of a cue.

I’m a great believer in things coming out in the wash eventually. The Dutch will come out of this very badly . Ajax supporters and Police and indeed Amsterdam itself….

Robert Plant is a superb musician and has compiled an amazing body of work over his career. I was lucky enough to have seen Zeppelin live, Knebworth 1979, and it’s up there as one of my best memories. His work post Zeppelin, eg with Allison Krauss, confirms him as an all time great, showing his willingnesss to encompass new ideas.

Mind you, the bold Jimmy Page has put together some smashing stuff as well.

I grew up with Zeppelin and 9 in a row Celtic. Idyllic!

  16. The poster being a colour poster for yer wall (2003) on sale at Superstore, as opposed to someone who “posts” on here. Although it would be good to airbrush a few posters ono and again! :-)

My da did a bit of the family tree a few years back, I was the first one to be conceived on the “right side of the blanket” for 4 generations.

Years ago, we met up with an ould matriarch of the family – 87 years old. Me being all polite, and she as sharp as a scalpel.

When asked about the background, qouth she ” the Quinns always had a problem with their….”. Ah don’t want to say the word.

Hearing it from an 87 year-old made me laugh like a hoor, and she loved that. What a gem…

    Handicapped Children’s Pilgrimage Trust ( group 77)

Bhoys and Ghirls, looking for support with a very Important Fundraising initiative for my Daughter.

Laura is a member of HCPT 77, from this year, having been in the Scottish Youth Group section for several years, ( a life changing experience for not only Laura, but the children who attend) acting as an entertainer for Children with special needs, disability, or underprivileged etc, on an annual Easter week Pilgrimage to Lourdes.

This year is different, her first year as an adult helper, and allowed to fully sponsor and support 24/7 a child throughout this trip.

To allow this to take place, she needs to raise £1000 by December, to fund the Child.

We are looking to run over the course of the next week, a Football Card,

50 teams and £10 for a team, with a very special prize. ( we can add more teams if more contribute)

“The Calm before the Storm” a 44″ * 32″ portrait of the Nakamura free kick goal scored against Man utd on 21st November 2006, ( it was £500 when bought)

If you would very kindly like to support this, please drop a note to

    HCPT77@ hotmail.co.uk.

We will respond with details on how to pay into the fund and have the chance to win this prize, once payment made, a team will be allocated, and hopefully drawn by next Friday ?

Some offensive descriptions of the Dutch people on these pages.

In particular, their conduct during the war, when some of them were starved to death by the Nazis because of their resistance to occupation.

Generalisations about nationalities are “generally” ideologically driven errors and sometimes lies.
