Three weeks ago there was little argument against the observation that Ajax had the worst European travelling support we have seen at Celtic Park – half a century of history. Attacks on Celtic fans by a roaming gang on Tuesday night was not a surprise. The banner, which Uefa are trying to ignore, but will surely be shamed into doing something about, was offensive and, in most jurisdictions, a criminal offense.
When the police collaborate it’s hard not to verge into the realms of branding a society “dysfunctional”. Amsterdam is wealthy, affluent, liberal but intolerant, badly policed and violent. The visit of Celtic fans passed with less incident (and arrest of visitors) than most visiting fans endured in recent seasons.
Visit Bruges instead.

I think you may be so convinced of the self-evidence of your point of view on this matter, that you have become impervious to any alternative explanation.
With the greatest of respect. Of course.

Sorry missed that about “Phil” …… ARE UEFA NOW TAKING ACTION ON THE AMSTERDAM BANNER…?
Connaire,
No worries bud. Its a highly offensive quote outta context.
I was called away and didn’t get the chance to clarify. It is indeed a lovely place. I’ve visited Alden biesen more times now than I can remember.
Well a long trip to play Ross County in an early kick off for the Bhoys isnt exactly what they would want after Amsterdam.I dont think it will be easy tomorrow and County will feel they have a chance of catching us out while our moral is low.If I had my way I would field three or four youngsters and use there energy to lift our senior players but Lennie never seems keen to do that.H.H.

You do both yourself and Paul67 a disservice with remarks like that. One might infer(incorrectly of course) that you were applying a filter to the news you consume.

BMCUWThe whole attitude around it now is what you would have expected in Thatcher’s Britain. Remember how in some places, you could not say anything negative about the Falklands campaign?
No in the Jungle…!

If my memory serves me right UEFA are going to have to be consistent on their approach to the use of the word “Fenian”.
When an original complaint was made about the Billy Boys song because of the words “up to our knees in fenian blood” UEFA decided no action was necessary in April 2006.
http://www.uefa.org/disciplinary/news/newsid=413514.html
However there was a further review by UEFA as a result of an intervention by FARE and it was decided that “fenian” was synonymous with Catholic which made The Billy Boys song sectarian as it offered violence to a particular religion.
http://www.worldsoccer.com/news/rangers-face-new-sectarian-charge
and also
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/r/rangers/5064472.stm for a bit of background.
Thus, if UEFA are consistent the banner flaunts their rules on sectarian grounds.

To be fair, you could probably say the same about all of us@
Evidence …..your funny today TBB ….there is no evidence. This is clearly what your hoping for ? Charlottefakes is a bampot. The SPL is a,redundant organisation. Campbell Ogilvie never got an EBT. Celtic plc woke up One day and were no longer surprised and are now fully in synch with Sandy Bryson, Paul Mc Bride had nowt to do with the offensive behaviour bill,…..jeez I could go on and on.
Why is there no evidence ???????????
Should we just cut to the chase ?
Or is my character to be assasinated at the Old Firm altar. I am now a pseudo bigot.
Is that right ?
I look forward to that explanation with extrapolation abilities like that why cant it be applied to the utter sham of governance from our custodians ?

Perhaps you could promote Belgium in a practical way..
I am in the process of planning a trip to Bruges next May/June by boat from our base in west London via Calais, Dunkirk then enter the canal at Oostende, make our way to Bruges and moor up for a week or so. All in all it will be a 400 ish naut mile trip.
Hoping to find some detailed canal maps of Bruges and recommendations on mooring points near the centre.
Any suggestions welcomed..

Haha,brilliant!
I heard Jim Webb being interviewed on R2 yesterday.
I admit his music is rarely mine, but it is pleasant enough. And he seemed like a nice fella.
But when he spoke of the illness of Glen Campbell, the pain came through loud and clear.
Relationships in the music business rarely last as long as that.
In Bruges – – – A good movie
My sister lived in The Hague and one day we were at the local beach. On this beach there was a few concreted shafts of bricks/stones going down the beach. Very quiet day when we were lying on these concrete shafts when a police land rover came towards us heading right at us. There was no one else about but they asked us to move so they could drive over. A bit pissed off we moved and about half an hour later they returned and did the same again when they could so easily driven around us. Twats. I complained bitterly but fondling his gun the cop said if I continued ranting I’d be arrested. And me a UK cop too!

I respectfully suggest you have a fundamental attribution error in your code. Unlike your logical self to cross-refer measured values with true-false statements.
I blame it on Jesus and the Monte Carlo Markov Chain.
Bobby and caddizy,
If I find myself singing/humming/mumbling, “and I need you more than want you” at every offside decision tomorrow…..I’m blaming you Two :)

Found it…….well, that’s very reassuring, at least……couldn.t understand why the banner would be ignored..
@Pmacgiollabhain: UEFA have opened a disciplinary case against Ajax for discriminatory behaviour by their fans (Article 14) case to be heard 12th November.

You call me a bigot so no disrespect but I will not be taking any advice from you ever.
HH
Cadizzy,
With the aid of the ‘friday feeling’ I actually laughed out loud there. :)
Respectfully, you called Tom English a bigot.
I referred to your description of him as Tom British and a “West Brit” as pseudo-bigotry.
Both of these statements are demonstrable.
Your conclusion is not.

What a memory you’ve got, bhoy …….. I can’t even remember my last spelling mistake on CQN………HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Still unanswered question.
Why did no arrests or charges follow wrecking of three hundred seats at CP?
This was on a night that allegations appeared here about plain clothes members of Police Scotland enthusiastically handing out on the spot fines for street drinking on the approaches to CP.
Afternoon all.
Paul67,
Your summation of Amsterdam holds true, imo, of the whole country. It is a very conformist society. You can say what you like and are even encouraged to do so but if you step out of the accepted line, woe betide you. I have reckoned over the years it is because the country is so small and has such a large population. Oh, and it is very middle class.
Parkheadcumsalford
“You can say what you like and are even encouraged to do so but if you step out of the accepted line, woe betide you.”
Sod not buying a poppy there then 0-)
Parkheadcumsalford
That applies here too. Harold Pinter said it was a form of censorship and was deliberate.
TBB
We agree to disagree then. I think calling Tom British out for doing his job on behalf of the fourth estate is an accurate obsevation and can be demonstrated obviously you dont. Its a pity our custodians cant demonstrate anything to do with governance and that its not permitted to call them out for it on CQN.
We find out next Friday anyway where most of our allegiances lie and in what are their personal prorities.
HH
P.s if they are honest about it and dont subvert any evidence
P.p.s any speculation is valid at this level of incompetence…..I am sure you dont agree ;-)
Hopefully Celtic back the supporters all the way, the way the police running about smashing guys on the head with baton and boot it’s no wonder the bhoys had a go back. The guy kneeing the young supporter with the hoops on was the same that ran into the post and got leathered that made me smile knowing he got what he deserved the horrible c**t. With any luck the club won’t ban any supporters caught up in it but the Scottish police will be falling over themselves trying to identify the fans and get them band HH
