Dysfunctional Amsterdam

770

Three weeks ago there was little argument against the observation that Ajax had the worst European travelling support we have seen at Celtic Park – half a century of history.  Attacks on Celtic fans by a roaming gang on Tuesday night was not a surprise.  The banner, which Uefa are trying to ignore, but will surely be shamed into doing something about, was offensive and, in most jurisdictions, a criminal offense.

When the police collaborate it’s hard not to verge into the realms of branding a society “dysfunctional”.  Amsterdam is wealthy, affluent, liberal but intolerant, badly policed and violent.  The visit of Celtic fans passed with less incident (and arrest of visitors) than most visiting fans endured in recent seasons.

Visit Bruges instead.

I see they are only adorning one stand as they b********e the poppy appeal.

Reason given is…they don’t have time to cover all their stands?

Or, maybe they can’t afford it?

Again, thanks for your visit to The citation.most welcome, what a day..

  8. It’s such a shame that an enmity has grown up between us and Ajax. They’ve had some super players over the last 30/40 years and always were easy on the eye.

Sod’s law that we always get drawn against the same teams repeatedl;y in the CL – Barca, Man U,Shakthar Donetsk, Benfica and AC milanetc. means that we’ll probably have them next y

  9. jude2005 is Neil Lennon \o/ on

Emdae got the link re the Pars fan letter to asbestos dome abt the abuse he and his family were subject to on Tuesday?

  10. All kidding aside should the board now ban the DR and Keech Jangle Jangle Jackass from Paradise. His aherm “Paper” is a shambles and in perpetual decline, he talks utter pash as do most of them. I think it is about time the board just told them to beat it, they only do damage to our club which they will do anyway if barred. Do the board need the money from this bunch? No, they do not, I am all in favour of free skeech but not for these cretins with an agenda. This guy has no shame whatsoever, if you want a story Jangle go and write a book about the demise of your club and the death of your club, look at it as a project that may help you and your dead clubs fans move on.

  11. Sod’s law that we always get drawn against the same teams repeatedly in the CL – Barca, Man U,Shakhtar Donetsk, Benfica and AC Milan etc. means that we’ll probably have them next year.

I don’t know why but the Netherlands is my least favourite place to visit in Western Europe.

My brother lived in Den Haag for a year and didn’t like it. Maybe that’s coloured my thinking.

It seems an over populated flat concrete jungle with bad food and surly people.

Still, what do I know ?

  12. Sent Linda my post at 18:44, got this back:

Thanks Lennybhoy, I know George really appreciated your friendship. He was never far away from CQN, even risking getting into trouble…so strong was his addiction, He would be reading and saying ‘I shouldn’t be dong this’ I would say ‘Well stop’ but he would ignore me. Your faith in CQN wasn’t misplaced and neither was George’s faith in all of you x

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  13. Fixed odds time.

Head to head stats show best bets this week are Chelsea vWBA, Liverpool v Fulham, Southampton v Hull and Burnley v Bournemouth. In Scotland the last six fixtures at Cowdenbeath v Alloa have been low scoring draws. Throw in Airdrie away to somebody at 10s!

    Hail, Hail !

  14. Lifted this from the The Scotsman write ins……..very valid IMO

    “Enough of this mischief Tom.

Celtic fans, to their credit, are not lacking when it comes to being able to step back and take a look at the big picture. Their club is well supported, carefully financed, respected home and abroad and professionally run.

On the field of play Celtic perform to the standard expected of them given their circumstances.

Because their primary business involves operating in a small, poorly funded league they do NOT have the resources to match Barcelona, Bayern Munich et al when it comes to buying and paying players. And – as demonstrated by the former custodians of Rangers and Leeds – to spend what they don’t have simply to snap at the heels of the giants of the game would be a recipe for certain disaster.

Celtic will always be capable of the occasional European run which may or may not see them actually winning a trophy, but it is not realistic to expect or demand that they do so. The odds will always be against it.

They have settled into the role of a selling club. That’s fair enough. Porto’s various successes demonstrate that you can still achieve great things while operating in this manner.

Tom English seems to be prodding Celtic into spending money in order to chase rainbows. . Hopefully common sense will prevail. We don’t need any more big Scottish teams to topple otherwise Saturdays will eventually belong to the Juniors.

Like the Nazi’s hijacked the swastika and tarnished it forever, that lot have taken the poppy and turned it into a badge of right wing extremists.

    They havent a clue.

Any respectful remembrance of the dead is lost when a poppy is pinned to the front of a car like red nose day.

  16. Replied with this

Ha ha guid yin at least we have a team with 126 years of history. Yours Glasgow rangers 1872 or whatever DIED last year and a new club the rangers international fc 2012 was formed which has (1) one year of history

  17. Gordon64 Vp and rest of Tim’s @ Eindhoven . Many thanks for your generosity with the beer. Sorry about Manuel’s Rolo story. Gordon I’m with the grumpy old git I heard you singing. Took Vp s advice and after too many years lurking on this incredible site decided to take the plunge. Did post once before under diff user name. Was the 1st to advocate Martinez as Celtic manager. Didn’t want that to be my legacy.

On a more somber note condolences to Corkcelt on his sad loss.

Craic with boys at airport makes you proud to be a Tim Mo(a)lloy. HH Bhoys

  18. Just been watching highlights of Paddy McCourt’s contribution to his Barnsley career and we’re left with Jamie Forrest. You have to question Lennon’s judgement.
