Early stats point to Sviatchenko effect

623

Well done to everyone for the win against Morton. After a difficult week it was good to get the result sorted out before halftime. Fixing poor form is seldom a straightforward business, but yesterday’s win was our sixth game in a month, with the loss of only one goal in that period.

The five games before this run didn’t produce a single clean sheet. Erik Sviatchenko started only the last of those five games (at Pittodrie), so while the sample size isn’t enough to draw clear conclusions, it’s an early indication the Dane has tightened things up at the back.

One thing Erik hasn’t been able to do is turn Celtic into a team which looks like it knows how to defend a corner kick. A Morton corner fell into the six-yard box to an attacker’s foot (never mind head). We’ve seen dozens of these horror-show set-pieces this season. They have cost us in the Champions League, Europa League, League Cup and in the Premiership. The Scottish Cup is the only tournament we’ve got away with it, so far.

You are I are beyond despairing at this point, let’s just get it sorted, Celtic.

I didn’t even mention The Haywain.

  10. I think Erik will prove to be our most effective and solid defender once he gets a further rest and a pre-season behind him. He has been thrown right into the thick of things in the middle of his last post season’s rest unfit, a few pounds over his match fit weight and probably even carrying a few long term knocks from the previous season. He has a crunching tackle, reads the game well, displays common sense and is comfortable on the ball. That will do me for now.

No interest in the zombie game at all, won’t participate in the hate fest, violence and public disgrace that the monkeys are. Family members will be be doing just that during the game- spending quality time with the family and with the telly off during the 90 minute sham that they are. No judgements on those enthusiasticly anticipating the game, everyone has a right to their own opinion.

    Get the league won Ronny.

I think they can be quite subtle about it. Just say something like ‘OF’ is no longer appropriate. You can read that however you wish. Some might infer that the club considers them a new team. Others might say that the lack of games between the clubs means there’s no longer a rivalry to speak of.

    Giggsy

    A fair summation.

A sizeable % if not a majority of those most vocal in encouraging others to NOT attend the semi final or even Celtic games at all are those who contribute nothing anyway.

They can’t tell us there has been a drop off in attendance at CP because Celtic have supported the continuation myth when the evidence is not there for Celtic supporting this myth or that its even the reason for empty seats at CP. We all know the empty seats began to appear in 2008 and if the opposition yesterday was Barcelona the place would have been packed out. Talk about selective principles eh.

  15. DAVE KING hopes Rangers can avoid further legal battles with Sports Direct as the Ibrox board seek to resolve the ongoing feud with the Mike Ashley-owned firm.

And he has hit out at the ‘corporate and personal bullying’ that saw him and Rangers dragged through the courts in recent months.

Sunday marked the first anniversary since King, Paul Murray and John Gilligan overthrew the former Gers board after a lengthy battle for control at Ibrox.

Several investors provided funds to repay the £5million loan that was due to Sports Direct last year and King has now provided an update to supporters on the situation with Ashley’s sportswear company.

King told rangers.co.uk: “Together we have demonstrated that our Club will not be kept down. We are no longer powerless to deal with issues that confront us.

“The Board will not stand by and allow Rangers to be negatively impacted on any front and will continue to challenge decisions made prior to regime change if they are damaging to our ambitions for Rangers.

“It is also well documented that, after replacing the board last March, we inherited a number of legacy issues. All of these have been addressed.

“Some were capable of being resolved immediately but others require longer-term remedies.

“In particular, the arrangements with Sports Direct remain problematic. The Club and I were compelled to deal with a number of legal attacks from Sports Direct in its attempt to reassert the dominant relationship that it enjoyed prior to regime change.

“The new Board and I stood up to this corporate and personal bullying and achieved resounding success in the court applications, including substantial cost orders in our favour.

“I have already expressed my personal views on the relationship with Sports Direct and its so-called management of the Club’s retail activities. There is no need to repeat them.

“It is unfortunate that it required the repayment of the expensive so-called “interest-free” loan before we were able to give notice on the agreement with Sports Direct or to take legal action to protect the Club’s interests and seek restitution.

“This bizarre state of affairs was caused by poorly-negotiated agreements prior to regime change during which personal interest was put ahead of those of the Club.

“Additionally, some of the individuals negotiating on behalf of Rangers had a clear conflict of interest. A joint venture should be based on trust and that is clearly absent on both sides.

“We have now had sufficient time to analyse the voluminous documentation supporting the establishment of the numerous agreements and side agreements with Sports Direct.

“Discussions have commenced with our legal advisors to review our findings and to devise the most effective legal strategy. This will be presented to the Board for approval at the end of this month.

“It remains possible that the seemingly inevitable lengthy and costly litigation can be avoided.

“There is a far better alternative if Sports Direct recognises that the present arrangements are not working for either party and agrees to renegotiate the present arrangements to create the win-win situation that should have been reflected in the original agreements if Rangers had an effective negotiating team at that time.

“It would be an immediate boost for Rangers if the Board can be put into a position to endorse a revised deal prior to the launch of new kit for the coming season.

“It would be great to see our supporters once again being able to wear kit at games while being certain that their purchases will benefit the Club and the team.”

There have been calls to head for the hills on semi-final day, all well and good if you don;t want to go but in the 90s we organised and got our point across and ultimately things worked out for the best – walking away and doing nothing about it is not an option I’m afraid.

Following defeat by Ross County in LC semi, I posted here to the effect that the first person associated with Celtic, who ever utters the word treble, should be paraded round CP, taken to the centre spot where they would have an extremely hot, sharp object inserted in their backside.

I am taking a wee break from all things Celtic boys and ghirls. I would like to thank all those souls who have

read my dribble over the past 10-11 years. Replied or debated the points raised with me even further. Dallas

the other day was talking about the Dundee Utd. Semi final in 1980 where we got gubbed 0.3 and Jim Mc Lean rightly praised the Celtic support for their support in what was extenuating circumstances. Wee Jim Not aware that the Vatican had earlier that day announced that Pope John Paul II was to visit Scotland and recognise it as a separate country. When Dodds scored the third and the crescendo of “The Popes coming over oh well the popes coming over” got even higher this old wag turned to me and said “Popes coming over son .. well I hope he´s a good fu**ing player”. Those were the days of beating Real Madrid, ten men won the league, losing Johnny Doyle etc. standing in the rain (if it was the Rangers end) scarves aloft magnificently …defiant. The magnificence in indirect proportion to the surroundings. We couldn´t muster that magnificence today … and if we did we would spit on it. See The Green Brigade

Yep we were certainly defiant. Magnificently defiant. Defiant to the point of risking taking our own club down .. if that meant change. We got the change that we wanted (well we thought we had) … anyway I am havering…but those experiences and seeing the Celtic-project through to residing and thriving in a

level-playing-field-civilised-Lisbon-lion environment to fruition was one of my biggest hopes in life. Sadly dashed. I have lost the faith.

Fergus was on my TV at the weekend talking about some guy holding up his baby and stating that he was “Celtic´s youngest shareholder”. Fergus then spoke about Celtic being our “Identity” .. nearly brought a tear to this old Bassas eye. Our identity today is far from being magnificently defiant ..unless you still believe that the world is flat.

I can hardly identify myself with the Celtic of 2016. I left Scotland in 1985 I have attended many many football matches since then that were not Celtic matches but for me (even today) it is never the same. They are not Celtic. I should be somewhere else. Since the advent of SAT TV I have hardly missed a game. I stopped contributing after the 5 way agreement except buying 3 baby Celtic strips. … Aye well some thing are more important than principled stances ;-)

I therefore feel it only civilised to continually stop raining on your parades. When I compare the output of the John James leaders and other blogs to CQN´s. I really no longer want to be seen to be; legitimising, encouraging, ignoring – mindless propaganda. CQN is now the antithesis of what it set out to be and has been since the 5 way agreement.

CQN was a great blog. It is ran by a good man whose intentions are genuine. Possibly misplaced , probably caught between a rock and a hard place just now,

Never interrupt your enemy etc. Celtic will come out blazing after the third tier tribunal, Who knows ?

I predict a sacrificial lamb but for me the cat is out the bag and is being poached by American dentists.

One thing is for sure the transparency, accountability, governance mantra´s have all been ditched.

Many people have said on the blog recently, Why support Celtic if it brings you so little joy? Fergus told me at the weekend that Celtic was my identity. That presently does not sit well with me at all. It has got to the stage where my CQN R.I.P filter list is becoming absurdly long and ever increasing. This should be telling me something – A Smiths song maybe ?

So Lhads and Lhassies it has been a pleasure. I will be keeping a fleeting eye on what is happening within Scottish football. Certainly it is far more interesting what is happening off the park rather than on it. That should keep my interest in Scoddish Fitba up for at least for a wee while yet. If things pan out as I expect then I will never be back on a Celtic blog. If they don´t then I will be on here as usual harassing you all and will be deliriously happy. As my mother always said to me your daft son but your not stupid. Time will tell I suppose…. your all heading to (if not already there) being proxy bears as far as I am concerned. The P is not a mistake btw and that for me is the indication of what´s turning out to be the ultimate betrayal.

And if you know your history …… And history will teach us nothing .. a little bit of history repeating..

Keep up the charitable works and good humour bhoys and ghirls …. and please never ever disgrace yourself by booing a Celtic player

Anybody who want´s to keep in touch can do so over facebook or email. Anyone who now wants to block me or unfriend me then you will be going in my wee black book for when the revolution comes

One thing I would say in defence of the club so far on this is that ‘Old Firm’ is a highly marketable tag and if they continue to avoid it I think it’s quite bold commercially. I even suspect it might cost them more than using it would, if fans revolted over it.
