It’s been six weeks since Celtic have had something to play for: 1 May, a five goal win over Dundee. Since then we wound down the remaining Premiership games before cranking up a fortnight ago at our new second home in Paisley, but it all comes into focus on Wednesday at Celtic Park, when we are expected to humble apparent Champions League whipping boys from Iceland.
People at Celtic have complained for years about having to play such important games in the middle of July, but I’ve never bought that argument. If we have to face Legia-type opposition later this month, we can’t have an early enough test. The challenge is known, it’s the responsibility of the club to be ready.
Stjarnan are likely to be the least resourced team we will face this summer, but if we get a comfortable win on Wednesday, these two games, as well as the friendlies against Eibar and Rennes, should provide ample opportunity to physically and tactically ready for the real test.
A few weeks back we discussed the game of brinksmanship involving Greece and it’s analogy in Scottish football, “Those sitting at the Syriza side of the table know they may be marching their citizens off the edge of a cliff”.
8 days ago Tsipras won his referendum mandate but quickly accepted that you can’t play poker if you don’t have any cards, never mind aces. I wondered if he hoped to ‘lose’ the referendum. I wonder if others hoped the SFA would find ‘against’ them a few months back. As we mentioned, it was “one of the classic failures of leadership – telling people what they want to hear in order to gain power, without any way of delivering on the promises made”.
If the Greeks had said ‘Yes’ Tsipras could have capitulated, blaming the will of the people. If the SFA said ‘not Fit and Proper’, others could have declined to invest, blaming Peter Lawwell and his ‘cronies’ at Hampden. I’m sure you could write the script yourself.
Populism’s easy, until you are given control, then it’s harder than granite. We’ll see the same lesson played out in Scottish football in the months to come. You need five aces in your hand to play poker with a billionaire, even then, don’t make assumptions.

Saw wee Stuart Armstrong walking along Argyle St carrying a Molton Brown bag. He looked very contented with life as a Tim despite GMS not bring anywhere in view.
Mibbees GMS was round the corner in Tam Sheppard’s buying plastic jobbies to hide in cifti’s locker?
Who knows? Not I. For I have no need for such items so dos not venture towards said shop.

PS gonna stop the Tim on Tim aggro. It’s what the bad guys want.
Thanks HT
I despise that law. And J Edgar House with it.

Absolute discharge goes on record according to this?
Absolute discharge
An absolute discharge is the lowest-level adult sentence that an offender can get.
If an offender gets an absolute discharge, a finding of guilt is made but no conviction is registered, and they are not given any conditions to follow (i.e. a probation order). The offender is finished with their case that day. They don’t have to come to court again or check in with a probation officer.
An absolute discharge will stay on an offender’s criminal record for one year after the date they received the discharge. The offender doesn’t have to apply for a pardon for the discharge to be removed from their record.
Of course they’re entitled to an opinion that’s exactly my point.
Jamesgang
Saw House being interviewed earlier about the awful tragedy of the couple in the car. There’s a horrible arrogance about the man.
And not for one second do I believe this either.
An absolute discharge will stay on an offender’s criminal record for one year after the date they received the discharge. The offender doesn’t have to apply for a pardon for the discharge to be removed from their record.
House is the SNP made monster, and runs this country make no mistake about that, he should have been arse necked out the door a long time ago.
Interesting times ahead with egotistical b—–d in charge.

Having done jury duty a couple of weeks ago I assumed there would be trial by a jury.
If not, is this written into the Act and does that mean that it is a Sherrif who is the ultimate “reasonable person”?
Can this be challenged in any way? I mean the only way that you could have consistency of judgement across the spectrum of individual Sherrifs is for advice to be given to them on what is offensive. Does that advice exist? If not why not? It means the accused fate depends on which Sheriff they happen to stand before. That’s luck not justice.
Surely that advice should be made available to all supporters so that they understand what actually IS offensive in the eyes of the law? I think the right to know what a crime is is a human right.
I imagine the HR angle has been looked at but perhaps an analysis by a legal expert of today’s judgement might identify and articulate the flaw in the law?

Sturgeon said he has her backing, not total backing I think that means something, if other parties pushed for it he would be out but will they?

“But then again the vast majority in Scotland are racists too.”
Neganon, you are an absolute @rse.Every day you are on here bumping your sceptic gums about all things anti Lawell, anti board.Occasionally you move on to some vile diatribe about the SNP.You really are a sad ,pathetic individual. Not once have I ever heard you join in on any positive football debates.I really think you troll every day,and await some other no mark like Thompson Twin to spout some guff, then leap in to the ensuing gibberish that is spouted.
Just for your information,Lawell is CEO of Celtic. The SNP are the democratically elected government of Scotland. Many may not like it,but to come on here nearly every day spouting your anti board, anti SNP crap, telling us all that we are”Racists”will not go unanswered by me.You sir,are a bore.

Apropos Heehaw.
I’m puzzled by the title.
No mention of Greece or signing a Greek player of that name in the text that followed.
On what was in the text it looks like proof positive that sh*t floats.

AfricanFootball.com can exclusively reveal that Glasgow Celtic have contacted Chelsea over the availability of Nigeria defender Kenneth Omeruo.
Celtic, who already have another Nigeria defender, Efe Ambrose, have been linked with Omeruo, who last season played on loan at English Championship side Middlesbrough.
“Celtic are waiting on Chelsea as regards Kenneth,” a source simply informed AfricanFootball.com
“It is now left for Chelsea to decide where next for the player.”
Celtic, Granada for unwanted Chelsea ace
In the meantime, the Nigeria international has completed his pre-season medical with Chelsea.
But it is left to be seen whether he will now travel with the rest of the squad to the United States of America for pre-season training.
Lately, Lille have come in for Omeruo and Spanish La Liga side Granada have also been linked with the 21-year-old central defender.
House is detested by around 99% of the police force. The 1% probably being his wee Focus group.Fact.

I dont know if you are figures are accurate re House’s approval rating with police but in my own poll of civilian workers working for the service it is 100%. ( I have family members and family friends so employed)
The last public figure in Scotland that I can recall who was looked on with such contempt by those who served him but who seemed untouchable was Sir Fred Goodwin.

Arrogance is the nicest word I have heard used to describe House in yonks:))))

Sorry I was having dinner.
I don’t know the answer to most of your questions possibly one of the legal eagles on here will be able to help.
You are spot on though that it’s often down to luck, dependent on which judge you get and their interpretation of what is or isn’t offensive.
lennon’s passion
5 of the 7 got absolute discharges.
Well friends Nerja is fantastic but wifi is virtually non existent. Plan A for Wednesday (Celtic TV) is ditched. And Plan B is still (ahem) under construction. Oh aye, very hot and very sunny.
I see Sevco are linked with a couple of Wigan players. That would be three they would have as they have already signed . . . Em, that other bloke from Wigan.
It reminds me of when Paul Le Goon tried to buy the whole Austria Vienna team for rangers. That went well

You have copy and pasted a Canadian LawFacts website there.
Under Scots Law:
Absolute discharge Where a person has pleaded guilty or been convicted of an offence, in certain circumstances the court may, instead of imposing a sentence (and on summary complaint instead of convicting), discharge that person absolutely. No penalty is imposed, and in summary proceedings no conviction is recorded.
http://www.scotland-judiciary.org.uk/29/0/Glossary
Therefore, HT is correct in his initial assessment, that the 5 will have no criminal record from this.
Auldheid
Usually it’s the same defence lawyers used by those charged under the Act and I’d expect that they’ll have all of that covered.
