Easier to get into White House than US sports market

267

Celtic’s preparations got into gear over the weekend with the first part of a money-spinning three game tour of the USA.  They join Manchester City, Chelsea, Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid in games there over the next two weeks.  After facing DC United on Saturday, Celtic play City and Chelsea before heading home.

This kind of exposure is worth the trip for the wealthiest and best promoted clubs in the world; it is a measure of Celtic’s appeal that we are involved in such rarified atmosphere.  Turning devotion from the ex-pat community in North America into a wider commercial income is a tough challenge.  Champions League exposure will be our only conduit to this market after the players board the plane this weekend.

We will bank some money and get match practice, but the route to relevance in the US sports market is more difficult than getting an invite to the White House.

Great news from the Champions League draw – we’re not involved in it!

    HH all.

  2. It really is nice to not have that feeling in the pit of your stomach around this time of year. For all the terrible suffering we have to endure during the transfer window it’s nothing to the stress of those play offs.

Although Man City have left their Euro 24 players on holiday there’s still enough star quality for the games to attract a lot of interest and give the team a real challenge.

how much are we earning for going there ?

next season we are back in the play off round, we need all scottish teams ourselves included to start getting co-efficient points.

This transfer window is a new thing.

You always got transfers and loans but windows and money came later and Celtic survive. Not only that, we’re so far ahead in terms of wealth SMSM is having to ‘regulate’ by being governors of mythological rivals on a national basis. Bemoaning the latin ‘status quo’ as if it’s a bad thing turns your nose up at a somehow, not better enough domestic double. Bernardo and Idah on ‘loan to permanent’ won’t win the Summer Closed season never mind the CL and Celtic are just not better enough, for some.

Walk a million miles in my moccasins, remember when the paper boy delivered the Evening Times and your big brother read out , “ We’ve signed Willie Wallace “ who’s he? said a wee bhoy. In the intervening years we went viral but quality players won’t come to Scotland? except when they have, and ‘ interest ‘ on bank accounts has two very separate meanings.

Jock Stein was ‘key positions’ away from immortality, Brendan’s ultimate demise at Liverpool then Leicester didn’t reflect the coach, recruitment was another matter. He’s apparently frozen out East Kilbride’s latest, so he’s duty bound and must buy better.

I’m not asking for the world.

I’m not even asking for a management team and a footballing team as good as the one Willie Wallace joined.

I’m asking for Celtic to put the best team on the park they can in 2024…

  11. Norwegian opponents could await both Kilmarnock and St Mirren in European competition after the draws for Europa League and Conference League qualifying.

Kilmarnock will meet Molde or Silkeborg of Denmark in the Europa League third qualifying round if they get past Cercle Bruges.

Should they lose to the Belgians, the Ayrshire side will drop into the Conference League third qualifying round, where they will take on whoever wins between Tromso of Norway and KuPS Kuopio of Finland.

St Mirren, meanwhile, will face the winner of the match between Brann of Norway or Go Ahead Eagles of the Netherlands in that same Conference League qualifying round should they defeat Valur of Iceland.

  12. “The only exposure to that market will be via the champions league” – why don’t we try the novel idea of trying to build a team that wasn’t just CL cannon fodder and perhaps that may up the profile……….

Before the hounding starts not being consistently bottom of the group would be a start.

CL qualifying – terrifying – wouldn’t bet your money on us having to come through qualifying. When have we ever invested properly for that…..

why do we need to break into the US sports market?

what will we do with the revenue when we dont spend most of the income we currently get?

    whose pockets would it line?

Red-Bull-ification. Have a decidedly average product but market it well so it rakes in fortunes way above what the quality of the product merits.

I wonder what team the ‘Football Fans’ supported who allegedly used racist & homophonic language towards cricket teams in Edinburgh before the Huns v Manu Utd match. BBC reporting it as football fans, but I think the clue is the fact that the cricket team said police watched it and didn’t do anything. I think I’ve seen this movie before.

The Brendan voyage is due to enter uncharted waters by the 1st of September.

When this happened last time he turned back, and bolted for England. I’m not convinced we have the leadership to threaten, never mind smash our glass ceiling. By the time we’ve played in the new CL format, the standard back of fag packet economics, say we’ll have £130M kicking

The plan seems to be more of the same status quo, and then tickle the O’Riley cash like what we did with the Tierney wad.

  21. new c; league format.

our objective is to finiish 24th or above,

ergo we need 12 teams to get less points than us.

    8 games, 24 points.

i dont care who we sign, wont make a difference,

with some luck we beatthe pot 4 teams, draw twice with po3, and we will lose the other 4.

have you seen who is in the draw , we will be lucky to get 8 points, will it be enough.

as an aside we will still be in europe in january.

and remewmber no europa parachute anymore.

the monies coming in will be spent, infrastrucure and players.

no statement to stock exchange for extra-ordinary profits this time.,
