Easier to get into White House than US sports market

267

Celtic’s preparations got into gear over the weekend with the first part of a money-spinning three game tour of the USA.  They join Manchester City, Chelsea, Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid in games there over the next two weeks.  After facing DC United on Saturday, Celtic play City and Chelsea before heading home.

This kind of exposure is worth the trip for the wealthiest and best promoted clubs in the world; it is a measure of Celtic’s appeal that we are involved in such rarified atmosphere.  Turning devotion from the ex-pat community in North America into a wider commercial income is a tough challenge.  Champions League exposure will be our only conduit to this market after the players board the plane this weekend.

We will bank some money and get match practice, but the route to relevance in the US sports market is more difficult than getting an invite to the White House.

Great news from the Champions League draw – we’re not involved in it!

Go look at the uefa coefficient points over the last 5 years and them compare them to same 5 year bank balance and if you can tell me it does not stink then with due respect you know knowt

    is it ……………..

the worse we do in europe, the more money we make ?

  2. ajeti, barkas and Haksabanovic were bought for us to feck it in europe but with a startling twist make us more money by losing

So much makes sense from the last 10 years

We blew it, to make money!!!

  3. TIMBHOY163 @ 9:54 PM,

How many empty season ticket seats are there……

Cos you know man utd, arsenal and liverpool (delete as appropraite, I dunno lol) are looking out for those empty seats and limitimg them to x per season

Or they will take your season tick off you

  5. TIMBHOY163

    good question

    Must be

Areas for segregation, hospitality passes for friends and family, press passes etc?

  6. different allowances for fire and rescue, police and ambulance

So although there is 60k seats the egress points allow for a safe 59k in the stadium??

Shit like that I would imagine??

  7. As am sure when we play in the champions league we have a different capacity than when we do in the spl???

    A mixture of the above

  8. Clunks,

I too am looking forward to the new season. Can’t help it but especially looking forward to gubbing the huns.

Its such a shame that our custodians have rolled out the red carpet for them at our ground.

The good times : In the pub at 8 oclock for the hun ko at 12. Ending up in Balloch long after the game and the wife asking the next day

” Where did you lose your jacket ”

Ans : If I f@ cking knew that then it wouldn’t be lost.

As BRRB would say ” Let the good times roll”

  9. No laughing now bhoys 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    looking at the public sales

The away tickets rarely sell out

I would imagine making a hefty dent in the 60k capacity

as we have to give out x (2500???) seats to the away support???

  11. Clunks ,

recently noticed , we now have a new breed of rent out your season ticket supporters .

Purchase a season ticket in your name with no intention of ever attending a game .

No wonder we have a big waiting list these days . HH

  12. Prestonpans bhoys on

    Clunks

Yeah there’s good chunk of seats for partitioning the fans , plus apart from the sheep, hertz and hibs, the away end is never filled (add them for next season).

We were the first parent and child seats in 118, that would be around 20 years ago. Most of the other seats in 118 and 119 were public sale seats. Was a good bit to be in because lots of the public sale bhoys were throughly enjoying the experience 🍺🍻😂🤣

If only you were running Celtic. I can’t imagine how well we would be doing.”

I have thought the same about quite a few CQNers !!

You’ve been consistent and steadfast, but it was sudden and unexpected by most.

We’re surely not squirrelling money at an unprecedented rate, to fatten shareholders wealth? Brendan has to burst the budget to match the growth of our club we need to break new barriers that only we can, CL level players will come to play in the CL, (eight games before Christmas) there’s a data base full of them.

Losing a tier one manager once was careless, losing him twice would be unforgivable. With another 12.30 K.O. there’s actually only one more sleep for us all and Sentinel Baldie.

  15. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

With the old CL format a club’s seeding (Pot x) mattered to that club.

Higher up you got? Theoretically the fewer hard games you had.

Now it don’t matter a jot to your club. You’ll play 2 games against Pot 1-4 regardless.

All that matters is how good you are on the night (not what you did before).

If you think the above is a load of old fanny, fair enough.

Consider this if you will though.

Imagine a scenario where a champions league group stage participant was given a choice of playing

    EITHER

Celtic at Celtic Park as one of their Pot 4 team matches

    OR

R2ngers at Hampden as one of their Pot 2 team matches

… which would they go for?

  16. “BOURNESOUPRECIPE on 22ND JULY 2024 11:00 PM

CL level players will come to play in the CL, (eight games before Christmas)”

I have often asked those who want us to buy players costing 20m and upwards if they thought that calibre of player would actually come to the SPFL.

Those eight CL games you mention might make a difference . Hmm…

  17. The new champions league format and its effects on our transfers is at this point undeterminded

Right now, I can only think its a good thing, ie more games against better opposition to showcase your skills

Where that would leave us in terms of future sell on fees and better players attracted is unkown

  18. CLUNKS on 22ND JULY 2024 11:10 PM

Seating sucks the soul and energy off of the terraces.

Seating and all ticket = a security information data sucking scam.

Celtic fans sing about setting Ireland free from 100+ years ago coz they are all talk about yesteryear, yet they say hee haw about the sell out of TODAYS Ireland to the World Economic Forum and the equally odious dangerous and corrupt World Health Organisation, with their facilitating the “NOW” as we speak Invasion of Ireland by supposedly undercover United Nations soldiers who are in Ireland to do what?

The Jungle era fans would [ long ago ] have been chanting a new narrative about TODAYS Invasion of Ireland and wakened the sleeping Irish folk up from the looming catastrophic certainty of waking up one morning SOON in a “fenced in” processing camp.

Oh yeah? And who`ll be doing the processing?
