ECA, Interpol, another day at the office for Scottish football

1327

Pleased to see the Club recognised for CelticLive, the stadium WiFi and content imitative by the European Club Association.  Anything which builds our profile at the ECA is welcome.

Today’s Telegraph assures us Newco Rangers chief executive, Graham Wallace, is set to  leave the club with his plans to raise £4m at a pending share issue still in the balance.  The newspaper further asserts the club is a “toxic brand” and is trying to secure an emergency loan from Newcastle United owner, Mike Ashley.

The club, which informed the Court of Session on Friday that it had only £1.2m cash left, and last night informed the Telegraph it was losing £1m per month, requires vastly more money than the £4m they are struggling to raise in order to finish the season.

Some credit is due to the Daily Record for their splash with photo and leader, “Rangers director Sandy Easdale and a criminal wanted by Interpol tried to negotiate an Ibrox bailout yesterday”.  They are reporting two years after Paul McConville’s blog initially broke the news of said Interpol-interested character, Rafat Rizvi.

Rizvi, who can take refuge in the UK as we don’t have an extradition treaty with Indonesia, is allegedly wanted for corruption, money laundering and banking crime, denies the charges, which he has already been convicted of.  He should fit in quite well.

As we said at the weekend, irrespective of short-term events, the long-term fundamentals remain unchanged.  The only thing to be decided is which of the characters hovering around the carcase will get to pick on the bones.

All credit to Sir David Murray.

The sooner the people of Scotland learn to stand together for the good of our country the better we’ll all be for it !!! Don’t vote because of religion or the football team you follow , vote for what u believe in , we all have friends who go to a different church or go to a different football ground but we all still regard each other as friends don’t forget that !!! vote for Scotland !!!

    =======================================

    That’ll be a NO then?

  2. I am not taking a position on the Referendum vote next week (exiles in my situation do not get to vote). However, the threats emanating from London make me a little angry and have sunk to an amazingly low level.

Allison Pearson, writing in today’s Telegraph, tells us that the event of Scottish independence would ‘break the Queen’s heart’. Oh deary me! How low can the English establishment get in arguing for a ‘no’ vote next week. Ms Pearson forgets the famous verse of ‘God Save the Queen’ which goes as follows:

    Lord grant that Marshal Wade

    May by thy mighty aid,

    Victory bring.

    May he sedition hush,

    And like a torrent rush,

    Rebellious Scots to crush

    God save the Queen

Ms Pearson spouts rubbish that would not have been tolerated in the Telegraph a few years back when it was a real newspaper with Mungo boys among the chief reporters.

“Wee Eck has a lot on his plate dealing with FEAR bombs cominig from all angles.

What is your view on the Purdah rules with regards to election promises to both the English and Scottish eloctorate? Is it honest?”

Really? Is it a one man show? Is there no one with any free time in the Yes campaign who would actually go to the trouble of having the allegation tested within the format set up to adjudicate on Electoral fraud or rule-breaks?

Think of all the attendant positive publicity that would come from proving there WAS a rule break by the No side!

If it is not challenged officially, I can only conclude, not that wee Eck is too busy, bless!, but that he wants the accusation made out there in the papers and media but not in a court of law. Cos the law is run by English basturks whilst the media is run by… er…I’ll get back to you.

My reading of the Purdah rules is that they are pretty ineffective and that campaign trail promises made by David Cameron (and Alex Salmond) are pretty worthless. They are aspirations not commitments.

The whole currency issue is a red herring. We have resources that the world, esp England, needs. A deal re the currency WILL be worked out. No danger.

A deal re the Trident missiles will be worked out.

Since many many people do not read every word on this blog, lionroars, could I ask you to make clear, because your opening two sentences suggest otherwise, that I did not write the quotes you highlight nor did I express any similar thoughts towards Livi Bhoy and his dilemma. I restricted myself to saying it was neither brave nor foolhardy to weigh up risks and come down on one side or the other. That is consistent with the view I have taken throughout this debate.

I will let Bawsman explain his use of those comments.

I was guilty only of not reading them in the same way that you did. You will be aware that I have much sympathy and empathy with people who have lost their jobs and are having to search for alternative employment and are often having to choose work in lower paid and less skilled areas. That is how I read the comments. We should both be happy to let the author of the comments you objected to, explain their intended meaning rather than claim either of our interpretations are more accurate than his.

But first, I think you need to dissociate me from having made them, as it may read that way.

  14. I keep trying to tune into the Pistorius verdict coverage but I seem to keep getting feed from an Edinburgh court instead….

I know, as I have done, many complaints have been made to the eloctoral commision with regards the Purdah rules being broken from many on the Yes side of the campaign.

That for me is the way it should be completed.

But your opinion on the honesty of the No campaign with regards the Purdah rules would be appreciated. not your opinion on what you believe the purdah tule to be.

In your opinion has the No campaign broken the Purdah eloctoral rules. No or (i know this may be dificult to say right now) YES.

Manslaughter is the English term. Culpable homicide is the Scottish term, which they also seem to use in South Africa.

Natknow I totally agree and want jobs to stay in Scotland. That’s the point isn’t it. Blackmail and threats don’t equal jobs. Customers and a thriving economy do. This is what I see. Agree that there are many arms to the group of companies. Threatening to move a head office that is already in London is a red herring.

But that’s not what they’ve said. Here’s the statement :

    http://www.rbs.com/news/2014/09/contingency-planning-for-scottish-independence-referendum.html

I’m not sure if you’re perhaps reading the press interpretation rather than the original statement? The statement explicitly states :

“The vote on independence is a matter for the Scottish people. Scotland has been RBS’s home since 1727. RBS intends to retain a significant level of its operations and employment in Scotland to support its customers there and the activities of the whole Bank.”

Re: address – RBSG is domiciled in Scotland. The registered address is Edinburgh. That is what might change apparently.

  19. Can someone please explain just why there is so much effort from the English establishment going into keeping Scotland as part of the United Kingdom ?

Do they all care for us so much ? I keep reading that we are a drain on resources ?

Can someone explain why in 2014 we should consider voting for the preservation of an institution which has never, and will never, allow a Roman Catholic to be Prime Minister ?

The media bias right now is unparalleled. Even that which Celtic suffers is less outrageous than we are seeing now.

The closing ranks of the establishment and the Scottish ‘haves’ protecting their new money piles, or the fear for their pension and their 4 bedroom detached little lifestyles of the many former ‘revolutionaries’ is quite sad.

So sad that self interest is all to the fore and the ruling classes from outside our boundaries will win out and divide and triumph once more.

  20. Of the 60 countries who,so far, have gained their independence from the UK how many of them have subsequently asked to be re-united or have declared themselves as having made a grave mistake?

  21. Marescongering!!!!!!!

The original one in Feb was sent out with the Indy Ref in mind…sooo, old news!

  22. Mea culpa

It’s a strange system, one min. The Jude’s seems she is saying guilty, then two mins. Later it looks like she is saying, not guilty, it swung that way about four or five times, and and she has left it that way, and went to get her scran, strange indeed.

  23. Natknow so the threat is about the registration. That will simply be a tax avoidance move, paperwork. You would expect that. So the implication is weaker than the implied job losses. I hope. I want more jobs in Scotland not less.

  24. Have we cleared up the difference between a company’s registered address and it’s head office address?

I think the only thing we a re disagreeing on so far is the address of RBSG! :-)

However, ” In a normal general election the share market wavers, exchange rates drop, uncertainty rattles the markets” :

True, but this is not a General Election – this is a referendum to exit from an existing business partnership. The movement of capital away from Scotland that has happened in the last week would not have happened in a regular General Election and the value of stocks would not have been impacted in the way they have been. This doesn;t just affect the “rish” – it affectes everyone who has any kind of loand or investment (mortgages, pensions, saving etc). Jobs etc. are driven by the economy. We don’t know what the Scottish economy would look like after a Yes vote. I’m not saying that it would neccessarily be worse – as I say the SNP are promising to cut Corporation Tax for big businesses – so perhaps that will attrack the likes of Starbucks and Apple. But there will be uncertainty in the interim. I don’t think this is any kind of smokescreen. As I say – just business guys doing business.
