ECA, Interpol, another day at the office for Scottish football

1327

Pleased to see the Club recognised for CelticLive, the stadium WiFi and content imitative by the European Club Association.  Anything which builds our profile at the ECA is welcome.

Today’s Telegraph assures us Newco Rangers chief executive, Graham Wallace, is set to  leave the club with his plans to raise £4m at a pending share issue still in the balance.  The newspaper further asserts the club is a “toxic brand” and is trying to secure an emergency loan from Newcastle United owner, Mike Ashley.

The club, which informed the Court of Session on Friday that it had only £1.2m cash left, and last night informed the Telegraph it was losing £1m per month, requires vastly more money than the £4m they are struggling to raise in order to finish the season.

Some credit is due to the Daily Record for their splash with photo and leader, “Rangers director Sandy Easdale and a criminal wanted by Interpol tried to negotiate an Ibrox bailout yesterday”.  They are reporting two years after Paul McConville’s blog initially broke the news of said Interpol-interested character, Rafat Rizvi.

Rizvi, who can take refuge in the UK as we don’t have an extradition treaty with Indonesia, is allegedly wanted for corruption, money laundering and banking crime, denies the charges, which he has already been convicted of.  He should fit in quite well.

As we said at the weekend, irrespective of short-term events, the long-term fundamentals remain unchanged.  The only thing to be decided is which of the characters hovering around the carcase will get to pick on the bones.

All credit to Sir David Murray.

    Catman,

I’m really looking forward to the game and seeing some new faces.

The dons have been a banana skin and a half for us recently. Max effort needed methinks.

Agreed we will need to be on our game to beat a team who stopped the threat of KC very well last season

I am taking a young nephew from Malahide to his first Celtic game so I am hoping for a performance and win he will remember for a long time

Not sure about your figures — any more detail?

Interesting that in the 2010 GE the Tories got 413K votes in Scotland only 78K less than the Nats consequently the Panda jibe is slightly off target.

UK in crisis: We can’t punish the 3 remaining countries by letting Scotland into Europe or anywhere else, says Davey Cameron

If not? “Meltdown. Armageddon. Social Unrest.”

    The Pound is Dead!

The message from UK chief executive Davey Cameron could not have been more chilling or clear as he faced the next crucial step for Scottish independence.

Cameron is convinced Scotland will not survive if the Scottish Suprime Leader, Salmon, does not back off and shut up and he has called for unity to find some sort of satisfactory conclusion to this sorry mess.

He’s aware it’s not a solution that will sit easily with some.

Camers, as he is know affectionately among the worlds greatest bankers, knows the UK will be accused of a stitch-up, that they will be accused of putting cash before integrity.

But he insists it is the ONLY way the world can get through this crisis, which he is fully aware has been created by the past mismanagement at Westminister.

Scores could be settled but Camers can’t accept that countriess would sacrifice their very being for the chance to stick the knife into some posh Tory bankers.

Reform, incentives, pyramid systems. Camers has come up with the entire catalogue of reasons why the Jocks have to make the right decision.

But the biggest reason is simple. If Jocks don’t shut it and get with the plan, it’s over.

Clear heads are needed when the Camers, Milly and the other one meet this week as he said: “We have a real chance to get this right and we need to act quickly and be decisive.

“We need the Jocks to buy into the vision and that process has started. There is the moral argument and fear in general. There are also financial implications to consider.

“But when we look at the alternative it isn’t possible to think about it without thinking of Scotland withering on the vine.

“We can’t contemplate that and the message has to be that the UK is the only show in town as far as the future of Scotland is concerned.

“There are groups who will think this is wrong and be convinced we have come to a decision purely on finance.

“I think you can’t look at this complex problem in isolation.

“We can’t punish everyone else for the mismanagement in Westminister.

“We have to look at the entire future of Scotland.

“Boredom Brown, My Darling, Milly and the other one are meeting this week and we’ll await outcome of that with interest.

“They will be discussing the matter with ‘the Suprime Leader’, Mr Salmond, his advisers and with Shell, BP and Midge Ure.

“We need to take the lead with this and make sure we get it over the line because the alternative is not worth thinking about.

“We are faced with a situation that some say is Meltdown and some say Armageddon.

“Whichever way look at it, it’s not a healthy future.”

Camers is adamant his feelings and findings are based on fact and added: “Already a number of countries are saying they would have no alternative other than to go into administration if they can’t see a guaranteed
distribution that satisfies their costs for the next share holders meeting.

“They are technically then running at a loss and would break their banking covenants.

“As the governing body we have to look at the bigger picture. There is a lot of emotion around this subject because Scotland has huge oil reserves.

“Without Scotland, there is social unrest and a big problem for UK society.

“They have a huge fan base and to contemplate the situation where those fans don’t have a country to support or things to argue about could lead to all sorts of problems for the UK.

“There must be an understanding about how serious this is.”

Camers is convinced the Jocks will see the bigger picture despite claims they are being pushed down a road they won’t tolerate.

The UK supremo revealed Scotland would remain in the UK with some sanctions attached for past crimes.

And he is convinced the timescale is there for the change to be completed.

He said: “As much as there was a lot of emotion at Prime Ministers Question Time, there was also a realisation from a substantial group that they couldn’t contemplate a future without Scotland.

“A number of parties feel they are being put in a situation where there’s no alternative.

“At a time like this we need to look at the facts. Think of the implications of not doing this. They are catastrophic for the UK. As the governing body, we can’t allow that to happen.

“There are hard decisions for all of us to make but we have to work in collaboration.

“There is time to get things in place because the UK can call meetings at short notice. If there is an agreement among the UK parties, there would have to be an agreement with the Jocks before their AGM on September 18.

“And there must be a legally-signed contract setting out terms and conditions by which Scotland remains in the UK. Then it is all systems go.

“We as the governing body have a responsibility to try and make that happen, so we’ve talked with both Boredom Brown and Milly about a package of changes.

“We’ve talked about bringing Scotland under the yoke, with a strong governance model.

“We’ve talked about the poll tax being reintroduced to create more angst between Scotland and the UK.

“We want to introduce the Paras into the equation, for countries who ahead of themselves.

“Notwithstanding the moral arguments, the alternatives to Scotland staying in the UK would be freedom, and that will not help the UK. We can’t kill the Golden Goose.”

Sectarianism was never going to be an issue that could be dealt with overnight.

Part of the reason I don’t like Salmond is because of his efforts to deal with the issue. The death of Rangers has put the issue out of the public mindset again but it hasn’t gone away.

Again though it is irrelevant to the Independence Referendum because it certainly isn’t a problem London was ever going to get involved in.

A son, after waiting a year following an honours degree, is employed in London by a famous firm in his field. While I understand there are both UK and EU laws to prevent discrimination it is easy to find other reasons for not renewing peoples contracts. He will be coming home to cast his NO vote.

A daughter working for one of the largest UK financial companies has less fear of independence as her firm has no plans to change operations whatever the result. She says she is a NO but I think she will vote YES.

I find it so hard to contemplate voting YES, in contradiction to what would seem to be in the best interests of my son while my daughters prospects seem secure either way.

TBH I’m actually losing sleep over this issue. If I actually did vote YES I’d feel the need to lie to my son…that can’t be right.

I think there are very good reasons why you are ignoring the main point that London isn’t going to touch the issue anyway and that it isn’t Salmonds name on the ballot paper next week.

FWIW I don’t think JMcC understood the issue and Salmonds efforts to deal with it were a logical extension of JMcC’s who also took the view that ‘ones as bad as the other’.

I’m very aware of what a currency union is. The BoE would have a final say but why do you envisage that as being a problem? Scotland aren’t going to go and ask to borrow 20% of GDP. Our borrowing will be in line, and hopefully over the years less, than the rUK. You know this I’m sure so why would you flag that up? The BoE would have no reason to reject claims.

The interest rate is not ideal but we’re stuck with that at present anyway.

When it comes to it, like any decision there is a positives and negatives and you go with the best approach not the perfect one. A currency union is favorable to the UK and Scotland.

It’s as if we did not want to prolong the agony.’

A powerful reminder of just how good Celtic were that day.

  24. Since I dont have a vote, and dont see myself moving back to Scotland in the foreseeable future, I have avoided commenting on the upcoming vote.

However, the discussions on here of late, remind me of my (much) younger days ….as a young ethicist/theologian, I would debate issues with anyone anytime. But, increasingly, I came to realize that most people have an opinion on most matters (and usually not based on any research), and weren’t really interested in a real DISCUSSION (an exchange of ideas), but really only of convincing you that they were right.

So, what did I do? I stopped discussing such issues with most people, and then chucked the ethics thing, and became a lawyer! At least if I have to listen to, or spout, crap, I get paid for it! :)

As for this weekend, I would go with a back four of Lusting, Denayer, VVD and Mulgrew (I think Izzy needs a rest). Biton (I think he is going to be a star) and Kayal (I wasn’t a fan, but he is putting in a shift of late) in the middle. Normally I would have Brown or Forrest on the right side of midfield, but in their absence (I think they are both still out), I would give the new guy (Wakaso, I think) on the right, and Johansen on the left. I would have commons in the hole behind Scepovice.

This still leaves good options throughout … and a very strong bench selected from McGregor, Henderson, Ambrose, Stokes, Grittiths, Giudetti (assuming he is fit, I would like to see him get a run out) and Matthews.

  25. Is this what we are being asked to decide on?(stolen from wiki)

“Independence is a condition of a nation, country, or state in which its residents and population, or some portion thereof, exercise self-government, and usually sovereignty, over the territory. The opposite of independence is a dependent territory. Independence does not necessarily mean freedom.”

    Just getting the basics right……

So how did we get here ~~~ Was it the dreams and aspirations of the SNP…going back to the wee McDermott fella..continued by the Ewings finalised by clever clogs Salmond?~~~Or was this a consensus from all parties, deliberating on what was best for ALL Scots and the Nation alone…….

    Pretty clear on that…..SNP Mandate…

    Just got a wee YES pamphlet through the door, titled ” One Opportunity” with 5 bullet point headers..so here goes;

1- Protect our NHS…..fine header, no substance to the claim…whereas it raises the question on what we take on should we proceed……who pays for all the new Hospitals & facilities built on tick……would we continue with free prescriptions for ALL, irrespective to income…

Are the Yes campaign suggesting that the NHS is not being protected…..if so, would it not be prudent to explain…..

2- Improve Pensions…..good one….continue the usual fear factor…..how do the Yes campaign intent to make this improvement…..more money for pensioners…..taken from where exactly…..should some thought not be given to reduce pensions where individuals receive excessive non contributed pensions…..should some thought not go to state subsidised or fully provided homes for the elderly, with funds raised from companies who provide employees with unacceptable (make you cry) “Bonus”…

3- Use our Wealth for Scotland. Are we going to reclaim all the gold, silver & any other “wealth” from the 10% of the populace that own it…….what about the land….are we going for a full redistribution here….or is it your standard “Oil & Gas” with the fictional figures of what reserves we have……surely we should include the “fracking gas”….that must be worth a few shackles…..get the calculators ready. What about our “dept” that’s our share of the “national dept” or is that a give me? Can we sell Her Majesty a wee residence at Balmoral….counting the pennies here.

4- Ditch Trident. Where are we going to ditch it……how about down one of those disused mine shafts..or how about dumping them at Sea…..running out of ideas here, needing help. It is the Nuclear Warheads together with all the required infrastructure they are referring to? Take it they want to tow them down South, owner the border…..how about telling the main players, that we would be prepared to manage this facility on their behalf with provisos on jobs, management fees and anything else we could throw on the table. This one makes me laugh……Shirley trying to catch both the Ban the Bombers & the Green (brigade)

5- Transform Childcare. Yip…get mothers to stop at home and bring up the weans…..that would really transform Childcare….or is this another one of those ~ more play centres for the mothers to drop the wee ones off to on their way to work…….not that I’m being critical of what Families have to do to manage an existence….but what else are they offering….fine the parents if the kids fail an exam?

It’s plain to see this wee leaflet, passed through my letterbox, was produced by SNP Politicians, delivered by SNP supporters. There you go SNP paraphernalia.

Keep being told that this is a simple Yes / No Vote With no candidates……thank god for that…also been informed that the SNP will disband after the vote. Can anyone confirm?

Where does that leave the SNP head honchos then……scratching about looking for a job…..doubtful……expect to see them sitting at the top of table doing any negotiations / deals….I have always found that Politicians are only missing the uniform, as they are as power hungry as your policeman etc….forget the crap about putting back into the community, keep your eye on their back pockets.

So yes only “One Opportunity”…..make sure you do the right thing, and don’t you go jeopardising my families future.

Paddy T…….wondering what the exchange rate would be for the Scottish Pound, converted to the English Pound converted to the Euro….
