Echoes of great Celtic teams

1910

I thought it was the emerging influence of Nir Biton as a central midfield influence who transformed Celtic against Hearts on Sunday; he looked that good.  If anything, Celtic were better in his absence last night, more fluid, more incisive, against a better team.

It’s all about shape.  The correct shape gives players time on the ball when they need it, allows them to look industrious, not static, and makes them difficult to counteract.  The only two questions are: can we maintain it, and when was the last time a Celtic team controlled the ball like this?

Forget about trying to maintain this in Barcelona, that’s far too risky, but if we can play like this at Tynecastle and Fir Park we can do so anywhere else in Scotland.  Don’t think we’ve played like this since the Centenary Season.

It’s difficult to interpret the vandalism at Fir Park last night.  As Celtic fans we don’t have a point of reference for this stuff.  “Had enough.  Won’t be back at another away game”, was the verdict of a friend I spoke to, who has probably missed no more than 40 domestic away games in the last 40 years.  The proportion of Celtic fans who would never vandalise seats is well above 99%, but there’s a new and unwelcome phenomenon in British football and Celtic have the best views in the country.

Getting back to more familiar ground, The Kano Foundation asked me to pass on this message:

“The Kano Foundation World Cup 2014 Predictor

Friends,

2013 has been a world class year for The Kano Foundation. We’ve had our first ever bucket collection, held our 3rd annual dance, welcomed groups from across Scotland, England and Ireland, and last but by no means least we will welcome our 2000th child to Celtic Park. All this would not be possible without your unwavering support.

As we move towards the new year, The Kano Foundation are always keen to continue our work while bringing you the fans new and exciting ways to support us. The fabulous prizes on offer at our Golf Day in September are just one example.

To keep up this form, we are delighted to announce a very special competition ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

We will be running a predictor competition unlike many others. At first reading our two part predictor is very similar to others where you enter the scores and winners for the 72 games.

However, we are also offering an unbelievable bonus prize fund of £10,000 for anyone who can correctly predict the outcome of all 48 group games . Yes, that’s correct – £10,000 to be shared amongst all entrants who can correctly predict the general outcome (winner or draw) for the all the group games.

In order to run both competitions we are asking entrants to make a one-off donation of £10. From the funds raised 50% will go as a donation to TKF with the remaining 50% available for prizes.

With just 100 entrants, not only can we raise a £500 prize fund for the predictor, we can also take over 200 kids to a game at Celtic Park. A tidy reward for a just few minutes brain effort!

All you need to do to enter is register you interest by email at:

wcpredictor@thekanofoundation.com Please include TKFWCPred as the email/paypal subject and tell us your user/team name so we can verify your entry. If you’ve not got enough room, enter as much detail as you can and tell us what you’ve done so we help.

Then make your payment into The Kano Foundation bank account (30-13-01 00989961 through Paypal or by sms by texting KANO11 £10 to 70070 – remember to include your name/email address.

Visit our predictor webpage (coming soon) to find more details and follow your progress

Once again, we hope we can rely on your support to make this predictor a success for us in terms of fundraising and for potentially making one of you £10,000 richer!

Thank You

The Kano Foundation”

Congratulations to the Celtic fans who run and support The Kano Foundation, our community is rightly proud of the. Register your interest by emailing: wcpredictor@thekanofoundation.com.

  4. Paul67,

I have to disagree with you about playing this way against Barcelona. I know we may get hammered but we may get hammered anyway. The more we play like this, the better we will be as a football team. I can see the logic of playing differently if we had hope of progressing but we are out of Europe; so, we should let our players go out and enjoy themselves playing football the Glasgow Celtic Way.

Oh, after watching the game, I would also suggest that we do our utmost to sign Joe Ledley. Imo, we would be better spending any money we have in trying to tie down our current playing squad than buying squad players.

Long may we give the likes of the young lhads who came on last night their chance. We have some class coming through.

Always felt Dundee was the worst. Years ago I remember letting the police know about some violence. The reply still beggars belief “that’ll get you and the rest of the Fenian B$$$$

    out of Dundee quicker”.

Maybe modern policing was trialled on Tayside ?

I agree, we’ve been pretty woeful in the CL this season so rather we’d attempt to play decent football no matter the result.

I have read that Nelson Mandela was a staunch supporter of the Provisional Irish Republican Army.

Also,it is written that Nelson Mandela was vehemently opposed to the decommissioning of the IRA’s weaponry.

Furthermore,it has been said,or rather,Nelson Mandela stated that Bobby Sands was a particular hero of his.

    Terrorist or freedom fighter?

  15. Elements of our support are treated shamelessly at times, but don’t turn your back on damage caused by our “support” when it happens. No excuses, these neds don’t care a damn about the Club or our reputation. They will be dining out on the publicity .

“Was it the GB who caused the trouble.?”

That is the question, only time will tell. Without doubt they are easy scapegoats. Although the judgement of the GB has been suspect at times, this vandalism etc. is just Neddish behaviour.

I do not believe the GB are just Neds. That is not to say that those who attach themselves to them are not..

The GB will no doubt issue a statement in due course and then we can judge. I just hope that Celtic do not act without having all the facts.

    HH, Always in Celtic.

  17. cliftonville celt from belfast I watched it and consider myself a republican just not a violence supporting one. It has NOTHING to do with Celtic though, not a thing.

  19. Very good performance from the boys last night. More please celtic, imagine what we could achieve if we had a striker!

I paddy McCourt I think you need to take a step back here. Like most on here I am very annoyed at some of the stupidity beings displayed regarding the damage to seats and the flares. It needs to stop and it needs to stop now. There is no excuse for it. None.

However i find it interesting that the instant reaction to anything that goes wrong is to blame the green brigade. Now don’t get me wrong it might well be some green brigade members but I don’t know that so how do you?

Assuming we as a support can cut out own goals like last night (and we have dealt with worse) then we are still faced with institutional sectarianism and we need to be ready to defend one another. There is a real mood of witch hunting against celtic fans just now and our club won’t defend us. This is their revenge for what has happened to the Huns.

Defend your follow supporters and lrs deal with the Ned’s on our own.

CELTIC have widened the gap between their Old Firm rivals by reporting a market worth of £95.7 million – nearly £70 million more than Rangers.

Shares in the Parkhead club rose to 76.5p on the stock exchange, while Rangers’ share price slumped to a record low of 39.5p. Rangers are now valued at £26.3 million.

    ****

Sir Minty’s’ for every £5 they spend we will spend £10′ seems even funnier when you compare the above share values.

So far I’ve seen one guy rubbish a Celtic supporter; another identify the GB as the problem; whilst another wants politics and ideals out of the game.

18 smoke bombs set off at the game last….SSB haven’t confirmed how many of the 18 were set off at the Murderwell end……wonder why……….Celtic to make a statement early next week….. I could never defend anyone setting of smoke bombs, and damaging property …… It was great listening, and joining in with you GB, when your behaviour was feasonable…

What about ideals should Celtic supporters not care about justice, freedom or equality ?
