Echoes of great Celtic teams

1910

I thought it was the emerging influence of Nir Biton as a central midfield influence who transformed Celtic against Hearts on Sunday; he looked that good.  If anything, Celtic were better in his absence last night, more fluid, more incisive, against a better team.

It’s all about shape.  The correct shape gives players time on the ball when they need it, allows them to look industrious, not static, and makes them difficult to counteract.  The only two questions are: can we maintain it, and when was the last time a Celtic team controlled the ball like this?

Forget about trying to maintain this in Barcelona, that’s far too risky, but if we can play like this at Tynecastle and Fir Park we can do so anywhere else in Scotland.  Don’t think we’ve played like this since the Centenary Season.

It’s difficult to interpret the vandalism at Fir Park last night.  As Celtic fans we don’t have a point of reference for this stuff.  “Had enough.  Won’t be back at another away game”, was the verdict of a friend I spoke to, who has probably missed no more than 40 domestic away games in the last 40 years.  The proportion of Celtic fans who would never vandalise seats is well above 99%, but there’s a new and unwelcome phenomenon in British football and Celtic have the best views in the country.

Getting back to more familiar ground, The Kano Foundation asked me to pass on this message:

“The Kano Foundation World Cup 2014 Predictor

Friends,

2013 has been a world class year for The Kano Foundation. We’ve had our first ever bucket collection, held our 3rd annual dance, welcomed groups from across Scotland, England and Ireland, and last but by no means least we will welcome our 2000th child to Celtic Park. All this would not be possible without your unwavering support.

As we move towards the new year, The Kano Foundation are always keen to continue our work while bringing you the fans new and exciting ways to support us. The fabulous prizes on offer at our Golf Day in September are just one example.

To keep up this form, we are delighted to announce a very special competition ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

We will be running a predictor competition unlike many others. At first reading our two part predictor is very similar to others where you enter the scores and winners for the 72 games.

However, we are also offering an unbelievable bonus prize fund of £10,000 for anyone who can correctly predict the outcome of all 48 group games . Yes, that’s correct – £10,000 to be shared amongst all entrants who can correctly predict the general outcome (winner or draw) for the all the group games.

In order to run both competitions we are asking entrants to make a one-off donation of £10. From the funds raised 50% will go as a donation to TKF with the remaining 50% available for prizes.

With just 100 entrants, not only can we raise a £500 prize fund for the predictor, we can also take over 200 kids to a game at Celtic Park. A tidy reward for a just few minutes brain effort!

All you need to do to enter is register you interest by email at:

wcpredictor@thekanofoundation.com Please include TKFWCPred as the email/paypal subject and tell us your user/team name so we can verify your entry. If you’ve not got enough room, enter as much detail as you can and tell us what you’ve done so we help.

Then make your payment into The Kano Foundation bank account (30-13-01 00989961 through Paypal or by sms by texting KANO11 £10 to 70070 – remember to include your name/email address.

Visit our predictor webpage (coming soon) to find more details and follow your progress

Once again, we hope we can rely on your support to make this predictor a success for us in terms of fundraising and for potentially making one of you £10,000 richer!

Thank You

The Kano Foundation”

Congratulations to the Celtic fans who run and support The Kano Foundation, our community is rightly proud of the. Register your interest by emailing: wcpredictor@thekanofoundation.com.

  1. The view from a Motherwell supporter who’s a mate of mine, he also asked me to relay his concerns to the Celtic Support, he marched in support of the GB in protest against heavy handed policing.

“Some of the hangers on around GB are getting out of hand which is bringing more police out but never seen any actual confrontation. Inside ground the stewards and police backed off and let them do as they pleased resulting in a lot of damaged seats. I have concerns that the “ultra” scene has potential to flare up as bad as casuals in 80’s with groups robbing each other for flags/scarfs, it won’t be long before a serious assault happens and things snowball.

Some union bear turned up in east stand and got chased out which was fair enough but then they stole his silk UB scarf. Problem I see is where does it stop, robbery is robbery and if its flags and scarfs now how long before jackets, mobiles, etc and someone ends up stabbed.

Please relay message to Celtic boards that the good fans need to help reign in the ones getting carried away, we’ve seen where it ends up and behavior like last night prompts retaliation which is bound to blow back on ordinary fans. There isn’t the same distinction now without the casuals so innocent fans will end up getting injured”

Three good mates of mine are all Motherwell supporters and told me pretty much the same stuff the day..

Did Efe Ambrose get booked for not executing the perfect landing after his wonderful goal celebration. He may as well have booked him considering the other brutal decisions that were going on.. As for the seat breakers & smoke bomb merchants get yourselves tae F@*K you are a total beamer waiting to happen and hunnish behaviour and attention seeking seems to be how you “support” our club, so please stay in your bedroom playing your xbox when Celtic are playing & leave the supporting to the big bhoys.

Had a conversation last night with someone in the know about the recent behaviour by the Ajax hooligans and low & behold there was more to it than hooliganism. Too busy to tell all just now so I’ll spill the beans tomorrow but it answered a hell of a lot of questions & the Scottish media should have known about it. Cheers.

According to Mark Guidi, the SPFL done Celtic a favour with last nights game being switched to the Friday night with Celtics upcoming match on Tuesday against Barcelona.

Bit of a schism developing between fans at the moment…depressing…Getting mighty fed up with it all…I still love the game but all the other stuff is doing my head in…the cost, the corruption, bigotry, politics, screaming pundits on shortbread, soup takers on Clyde, ex-players taking their pieces of silver, so much hatred and bitterness…and I thought we as a club were more of a tight-knit family and above all of that crap, perhaps not…Lisbon was Nirvana and Seville made me feel so, so proud of my team and my fellow fans…I believe what is happening now is more than a family squabble and I don’t know how it will end…I only know that for me the end is nigh…I will not be around when these new huns come to play us…No thank you very much!…After 60 years watching on I will retire with my memories of games (7-1 6-2), players (Jinky, Henrik) that green and white sea in Seville but more than all else I will remember big Jock and the Lions…my kind of people…

  6. fan-a-tic-was interesting to read WGS saying last week that a few years ago he was far too defensive as a manager.Maybe 3-5-2 is the way to go,the players look much more comfortable, and there is much more movement off the ball.HH

A very reasonable and well measured response to BRTH who also put his viewpoint across well.

Celtic will always be pilloried by the slanted agenda of the msm.

We should accept responsibility when we let our self down but be aware of the actions of Gorings disciples in the press distorting the truth to further their slanted agenda.

  9. My regard for the GB ended at the Milan game. No way back for them as far as I’m concerned.

And apparently their cowardly leaders won’t step up to the plate and defend their behaviour to good Celtic men such as BRTH and Winning Captains because those of us on this blog are “soup takers”. Go figure.

I bumped into Malorbhoy one day at Celtic park and we sat and talked our way through the game and most enjoyable it was too– as on that occasion I had gone to Celtic park on my own.

I just love football– and Celtic in particular– and so I cannot fathom why anyone would want to portray an image of Celtic that is destructive or through vandalism.

weebobbycollins, I must admit for the first time, the negatonians, the trouble makers, the Glasgow Hibernians are getting too much for me. I’ve loved this blog since I discovered it maybe 4 or 5 years ago but for last couple of months I no longer recognise it for what it meant to me in the beginning. I am very grateful that through it, I met some great people like, kikinthenakas, Blantyre Tim, Old Tim, LennyBhoy, Hamilton Tim, Jungle Jim, Angel Gabriel and his son and a host of others, if I keep naming, I’m bound to leave out one or two so I’ll stop at that. Lately I’ve tried to lurk and maybe post once a week but to be honest that is a hard enough thing to do, so I’m just going to stop altogether for the time being. Hail Hail to All UTLR.

  18. Stairheedrammy on

After 2 great performances its a shame to see the focus here is on the misbehaviour of some of those at Motherwell – with the usual immediate blame on the GB that makes me wonder if the deadco are still paying for misinformation to be spread across the MSM

In my view the trouble with ultras is that their popularity amongst younger fans means they try to emulate them- whether they are a member of the core group or not- factor in away games where the group itself has no control over where they are placed, or where those around them are placed and you have a recipe for what we saw at Motherwell- with the hawks on here following the MSM line in immediately condemning the GB

Wait until you hear what the proof is before you make your mind up- dont do as the MSM tell you to do

  19. Dont talk to me about Fir Park and the Murrawell polis. Got lifted there once (1978 I think) for absolutely nothing. Ended up doing a weekend lie-in in Hamilton police office. A not guilty plea would have earned me a 3-week remand, so I had to plead guilty. When they read the charges out, Motherwell’s finest sahjd G was trying to incite a riot, and challenged opposition supporters to violence! Dirty lying B’s! All I did was walk from one turnstile, which had closed, to another. Would have lost my job if I had been remanded, they knew this when they lifted me. I would have gone all the way under different circumstances.
