Economic consequences and remarkable irony

845

Spanish football, like its economy in general, in mired in difficult financial times, which, apart from one or two well-funded clubs, has restricted the budgetary scope of a large number of teams.  I had hoped all summer to hear we were on the case but it wasn’t until the final day of the window that solid opportunities materialised.

Marseille-born Tunisian international Lassad Nouioui is a complete unknown to all of us but his profile, earned at Deportivo La Coruna, fits the bill.  He scored a handful of goals as Deportivo finished 18th and dropped out of La Liga in season 2010-11 but hit the heights last season as they secured promotion.  It would be practically impossible for Celtic to sign a striker with the equivalent profile in English football, despite the apparent gap in standards between La Liga and the English Premier.  I’m also delighted to hear Levante, who finished 6th in La Liga last season, were so keen to capture him.

There is also something I like about the port-town mentality the people of Marseille have.  It’s very Glaswegian.  Lassad should flourish here.

I’m not sure what Phil Mac Giolla Bhain’s reaction was when The Sun called asking for an interview about his new book, which details the mainstream media’s failure to report the demise of Rangers.  “Are you joking?” may have been appropriate.  I had no prior notice they were running an interview yesterday and couldn’t believe the promotion they gave to a book detailing the failure of their industry.

This was not without consequences, of course, and The Sun got themselves into an incredible mess, today trying their best to backpedal, which is pretty much what the theme of the book predicts (irony #1).  Meanwhile there is a book publisher in Glasgow who cannot believe his luck.  Thousands of unwitting critics and a leading newspaper have ensured  Mac Giolla Bhain, who would struggle for a platform without the anger of others, has a bestseller on his hands (irony #2).

To save time later, Campbell Ogilvie has already made the draw for the final. He’s just not sure who sevco are going to be playing yet. Otherwise, everything’s green for go…..referees briefed, etc.

  2. Surely Motherwell will go into that tie as strong favorites, and indeed for once turn up at that ground with a team that wants to win.

or am i being daft ?

or will the MIBs have a parts to play ?

or will Mullet tell us how “we were t beaten by what is really an SPL team, and they have been punished enough”.

    its going to be interesting.

  4. Ah, now I see why Ogilivie’s still unashamedly clingin on to his position, breaking every moral structure in the process.

The diddy from Bonkle to make a dramatic return and MIBerise this forthcoming clash of the pie-bellies? Not much need right enough, the mullet is well groomed in the masonic ways. Whit a shower of utter trumpets.

  5. Pleased for Turnbull Hutton – hopefully a decent crowd.

The mullet will have his mob well groomed for their tie – youth team out in case of injuries for the ‘more important’ SPL games!

  10. Good draw for us, will give us a chance to rest some players in the middle of a hectic schedule (we’re away to moscow 6 days after the raith game with a league game v murderwell in between).

As for murderwell. I fully expect their coward of a manger to lie down to Sevco as he regularly did with Rangers (R.I.P), not to mention he’ll be giving it the “we’re playing both Old Firm (what’s that!?) teams in a week” pish and of course the MSM will lap it up.

Just checked the BBC scotland and Sky Sport’s twitter, both leading with RANGERS, beyond a joke. Seems the ‘pretend Celtic don’t exist’ mindset is alive and well in the MSM, just as well we have our own outlets!

What manager would expect a lucky streak to last until January 2014!

  12. Celtic v Raith Rovers

I know that Raith Rovers struggle from week to week , just to exist.

They will see a draw against Celtic , as a chance to make some very welcome additional income.

The Celtic support will have to put their hands in their pockets to buy CL tickets .

I hope that they can afford to attend this LC match also.

Raith Rovers and their chairman Turnbull Hutton , we’re the catalysts for speaking out for integrity over finance.

    They deserve our support.

Please try and attend this match, and try and reward Raith Rovers for their courageous stance.

    They said No to Newco.

Let’s say YES to Raith Rovers.

  14. South Of Tunis @ 14:58,

A Wycombe Tim was telling me, he was in the BBs.

He was the Senior Boy – What this Tim was doing in the BBs to his late teens is anyones guess – didn’t ask the question.

    Anyways

The custom was the senior Boy marched their colours from the church to the Cenotaph on Remembrance day.

When they discovered they had a Catholic in the role pandemonium ensued.

But he stuck to his guns and he got the honour….

  15. Got letter if from Celtic regarding C/L games

Apprently i cant sit in my usual season ticket seat in north stand lower

Thanks for treating me so well Celtic

I feel really valued as a season ticket holder

  16. I have just bought my CL package on the `phone. Took about 10 minutes in total and I am in my normal seat in 106. Excellent. You were saying,lionroars67?

  17. Our former manager Wee Gordon Strachan is a big fan of the BBs. He said this of them in a Ladbrokes magazine:

“It was different when I was growing up in Edinburgh. Back then, my mum and dad, my school, my Sunday school, the Boys Brigade – they all told me what was right and wrong. I was petrified of a policeman.”

Gordon is called a Ladbrokes Ambassador and advertises that company’s services.

Funny that. The man who never misses a chance to slate those fans who have the temerity to voice their opinion about football on the internet is happy to accept money for advertising a company that urges the public to have an opinion on all sports, and test that opinion by gambling money on it.

What am I saying test their opinion on sport? Form an opinion and gamble all your money on anything; if the ball will rest on red or black, if the dealer is going to deal a pair of Kings or Queens, but don’t post an opinion on football unless you have played the game professionally.

That’s our former manager and BB member.

This happened for previous C/L fixture against Helsingborgs it was a shambles, i sit in section 104

  19. lionroars67

Have the ticket office offered to relocate you or have they just told you that you won’t have a seat at all.

For some European games, UEFA rules dictate that a certain number of seats are reserved, usually the first few rows in certain sections.

I get 101 CL tickets ok but some of the middle sections at the back AA BB CC etc ‘lose’ theirs on CL nights ..option to move of course but the new location is not always known in advance.

lionroars67 -in fairness you knew that when you took the season ticket ..correct?

It has occurred to me that one person got his backside booted this transfer window. Whichever side you take on the Hooper work rate issue, might he be experiencing a little more motivation with the new Bhoys strolling in to training?
