Edinburgh again, Ticket Office Blues

635

While Celtic are in the middle of a month with six home games, we face Hearts on Sunday on their eighth consecutive home game and tenth game on the trot in Edinburgh. Runs of games like this do you no favours in the long run, but they provide pockets or benefit.

Training schedules for Hearts have been perfect during this period, without needing to factor in a trip to Dingwall, for example. Game plans will have been consistent and clear. There will be modifications for the visit of the champions, but we will face a team who are as ready as they could be for the challenge.

This letter from the Ticket Office:

Like many of you, I have several season tickets in my wallet right now. They are not always used by the named person (Martin42 has been unable to use his ticket since August (!) due to injury).

I have not been in touch with the club, so can only wonder what “the Celtic Ticket Office is not obliged to provide information about the named Season Ticket Holder to any third party” could be about. It is an obscure reference, as is “in all cases relating to Season Tickets photo ID is required”.

Letters like this are never produced purely to irritate, there will be an issue to be addressed. It will not be a mean-spirited attempt to stop you taking a friend to the occasional game – which we all do.

But if the issue is serious enough to write to all season ticket holders: explain, explain, explain.  It’s not just the perma-rage-against-the-man-types (you don’t know who you are, so don’t bother wondering) who are troubled by this, some will be reluctant in future to invite a friend along to Celtic Park on a spare ticket.

Lessons learned, I’m sure.

  18. Morning all

Good to read EUROCHAMPS news. Perspective applued which made me feel guilty about my own paltry sniffles of this week.

Not been on since Wednesday evening and meant to post earlier on a few points.

1 John McGinn. Good player and his joust wth Broony was the highlight of the game last Sunday. I thought that by the end the clear winner was our captain who was, yet again, our best player on the day. I am not sure that Brendan should make it a priority to sign McGinn as there are other areas of the team which need strengthening more urgently. But one thing in his favour is I think he is a better player than Broony was 10 years ago. He’d need to show the basic desire to improve himself as a player that Scott has and get some good management/coaching to get near to where our captain is now though.

    2. Hibs. I lived in Rossie Place in Edinburgh for 12 years which is no more than 100 yards from the Stadium. I occasionally went to Hibs games if we did not have a game on and also drank in pubs near the park fairly regularly and never got hassle for my accent or the admission of which team I support. Less pleasant memories of playing football against a team drawn from their Casual firm- a really nasty bunch who had Mickey Weir coaching them I am sorry to say that when our goalie broke their centre forward’s leg I was happy. So mixed memories. I heard a lot of stuff about us pinching their best players in the late 1880s and as they went from being top dogs to bankruptcy within a very short time of us coming into being I can understand why they do not like us but in my experience they did not hate us. Bitterness towards them because of what happened in 1952 should be tempered with the knowledge that there have been four or five major regime changes at the top of that club since so do not see the need to hold it against them as if it happened yesterday. If you want to find a reason to feel really sour towards everyone who is not us that is your prerogative but I am fed up with hatred.

3.Tommy Burns. Tommy was born 61 years ago today ( I think). He was not a truly great player- though in 80/1 and 81/2 he came close- and he was not a great manager though his Celtic team was often a joy to watch and in 95/6 his team lost only 1 league game. But other perhaps than Big Billy I can think of no more admirable figure in my 50 years supporting the club. I only met him twice and then only briefly but he seemed to me to be a decent man and his public behaviour suggests that despite flashes of temper he seems to have been a man lacking in the rancour and bitterness I dislike ( but which I frequently display). He is an example I and others should try to follow.

Enough of my wittering on just felt the need to get some things off my chest.
