Edouard and Kyogo productive partnership

231

Celtic’s first half display against Hearts yesterday saw the length of the M8 between the teams.  The visitors put bodies in the way but were unable to stem the tide towards Craig Gordon’s goal.  A sublime pass by Kyogo Furuhashi gave James Forrest space to turn inside and dink a cross that was expertly converted by Odsonne Edouard.

Edouard turned provider when Stephen Welsh towered over the defence to head home as the roof threatened to fall in on the visitors.  Hearts stabilised after the break but were not in the contest in any meaningful way until Carl Starfelt mis-controlled the ball inside his penalty area, allowing Liam Boyce to get in the way of his second attempt, resulting in a penalty that was converted by the Hearts stirker.

That sparked Celtic back into life and they soon restored their two-goal cushion through Kyogo.  Hearts added time second goal flattered them and came too late to cause any concern.

One of my concerns this month is that we do not shift Odsonne and he leaves on a free at the end of the season.  On this showing, a season of him and Kyogo would not be totally without compensation.  The partnership looked very promising.

May I have your views on this? You believe we acted sequentially. Wouldn’t that risk losing out on both players? Wouldn’t it be more logical to follow parallel tracks, and if your preferred choice, Player 1, demurs, you already have a written offer submitted for Player 2?

I am always skeptical of player talk, but there is a saying “No smoke without fire,” and our success rate and transfer follow through in many of the Lawwell years were somewhat patchy, to say the least.

  2. Paris St-Germain will offer Manchester United’s 28-year-old France midfielder Paul Pogba a deal worth £510,000 per week as they try to secure the World Cup winner on a free transfer next summer. (Independent)

  3. anyone who doesn’t think the Ayrshire Superstar is a great player probably doesn’t enjoy a good shite on a Sunday morning

  4. Don’t want to put a dampener on things, but against Dundee, Christie ran the show, provided three assists and was a standout in a very good team performance. Edouard also got on the scoresheet.

Against Hearts on Sunday, Edouard scored again and was a key player in another standout team showing.

Setting aside the understandable excitement around Kyogo and the return to form of Rogic and McGregor, it could be argued that the performances of Ryan & Odsonne have been key to the return of the feelgood factor this season.

If we sell them now in this buyers market, we get £14M for OE & £4M for RC, tops.

There is no way we could replace them or improve the squad with £16M fees, so IMO, it makes sense to keep one or both this season, win the league and be just one play-off away from the riches of the CL group stages next season.

You never know, a full season playing Ange-ball might even rekindle their love for the club and see an extended contract on the horizon!

  5. Let’s get Juranovic over the line today. Scales will hopefully join in a couple of weeks and that may be us barring a customary late loanee or another free agent.

A big two weeks ahead of us, we’ll have a good gauge of where we are when these run of games are over.

  6. The hand of God on

Hairlikespaghetti …you make a reasonable case but I think if we get a reasonable offer for Eddy he will go…but will we have a replacement ready to go,probably not.Winnees of the league straight into the Champions league remember,so not a season to mess around and haggle over small amounts get the players required in as soon as possible.

  7. Apart from possibly Juranovic & Scales, I think we are sticking where we are. So including Shaw, Urhoghide, Hart, Abada, Starfelt Kyogo & McCarthy, that would be nine in. If Eddy & Christie are running down, the club will not look for anyone else in those positions. We just might get a couple of loans at the end of August, so could be eleven new faces in total, that’s a fair old number. Wonder what’s happening with Elyounoussi at Southampton?

Will we be good enough to win the title? I reserve judgement till January.

Talking a lot of *hite — surely JF deserves better?

No matter — B team / Colts game tonight.

CSS — very posh — but seemingly the team to beat.

Finally — better to let OE / RC go now?

Use the money to bring in a hutch of new players?

Bit torn on this — letting OE and RC go for nothing will put a huge hole in our finances.

However they are known quantities / huge talents who will help us in the SPL.

    I need to find a fence …

Must admit to feeling conflicted by what I was just about to call “lowballgate”

(Don’t you hate it when lazy hacks add “gate” to a word to create a label for scandal or crisis?

The building was called Watergate you idiots)

    Agree with Tom McL.

“A verbal contract isn’t worth the paper it is written on”

    (Sam Goldwyn .. allegedly)

    Why the conflict?

In the short term I’d like to see first team starter types signed.

Longer term I’d prefer we avoid medium cost failures ….

If only we had dithered over Gamboa, Compper, Kouassi, Bayo, Shved !

    Scales is interesting.

    Have never seen him play.

    Know nothing of his ability.

IF he signs and IF he turns out to be a pup?

    No huge monies lost.

As I understood it- If you have a SB you have a window to apply for your own seat (my window was from Monday morning to earlier this morning- I did get a re-allocated seat as I am in the Red Zone. However, I think you had to sign into My Account with Celtic fc tickets before being allowed to choose an alternative seat elsewhere in the stadium.

If you don’t have a SB, I believe any reaining seats are on general sale as of now, so you better be quick
