Edouard and the need for forward planning

The first hope during an international break is that the players return without injury.  Last night I realised that my next hope is that Odsonne Edouard stops attracting attention to himself by putting the ball in the net for France Under-21s.

He scored twice in a 4-0 win against Albania.  Odsonne’s form is either going to drop off a cliff edge, or the summer of 2020 is going to have a familiar theme for Celtic.  We should be busy planning contingencies now.

  1. Eddie made quite an imopression scoring 2 goals as a 2nd half sub. We’ll make some extra tcket money from the scouts :-)

EVERY Celtic player has a price.

We are a selling club and unfortunately, I am getting used to it.

  3. Hunderbirds are Gone on

So is our future watching a young prospect fumble his way through his first full season in front of a big crowd, making all of his mistakes, at jeopardy to our club. Followed by only one season, if he turns out to be good.

    Worried about selling?

We are a buying club too CSC

the next thing to happen at Ibrox will come as a major suprise to many

I just hope not our board

  6. French Eddy is some talent. I’m afraid we need to be looking at a marquee signing at center-forward next year.

  7. Siempre Celtic (formerly Traditionalist88) on

We should have bought Stuani this summer. Languishing in Segunda in Spain. Guaranteed goals. No chance of getting him if they get promoted.

He’s 32 but we have short term objectives too.

    Whitedoghunch, Hrvatski Jim,

Some of those Pine Trees, look more mobile than Sevco’s back four. They would be good in a needle match too.

  9. Hunderbirds are Gone on

An installation like that would look good at Motherwell – Fir Park… or Thistle- Firhill.

  10. Hunderbirds are Gone on

At Celtic, Broony is an evergreen performer. Mind you, I still pine for Henrik Larsson.

Any elaboration you can provide ?

Ah think your barking up the wrong tree. The pun policy on here, requires a root and branch review. We should keep a log book.

  13. Edouard is an outstanding talent. The boy has ice in his veins and he is going to fire us to 9 in a row. I don’t think he’ll be here for the 10 but we should be absolutely smashing the Scottish transfer record for the sale of a player when the time comes.

  14. WiTs has a point here, Morelos is a far superior talent. How Sevco managed to hold on to him through the transfer window is a mystery!

Impressive rant – unfortunately completely irrelevant to my point.

I made it clear that my post was not about Neil Lennon (obviously not clear enough for everybody) – it was about the style of play we should be adopting AS A CLUB, regardless of who is manager.

Paul’s article was about how we would/should be going back to the pragmatic style used by Neil Lennon (he has made similar points about Gordon Strachan also). I countered that argument by saying that just because a certain style worked for us (to an extent) a decade ago didn’t mean it would still work today in a completely different football environment, both financially and tactically.

I only mentioned Neil Lennon once (just as a brief aside) at the very end of the post to say how many games he had won in Europe. Quite how you manage to leap from that to me supposedly calling him a dinosaur I have absolutely no idea.

Crikey, it’s no wonder so many people don’t post on here anymore.

Not wanting to go out on a limb here, but does anyone else think that Griff is carrying a bit too much timber?

Sometimes the words we write on a screen ,in the absence of visible signs, does not convey exactly what they mean.

I gave yours a more general meaning of comparing NL with BR and that was influenced with my growing disaffection of keeping the ball at all cost.

In short I prefer a team prepared and able to mix it but with enough talent to entertain.

In my defense I watched Bobby Murdoch and Billy McNeil and Tommy Gemmel and even Bertie ,keep an eye on wee Jimmy and Bobby etc.

    Spoiled forever. :)

  18. Dembele was up until this summer the French Under 21 striker. Edouard was the under 19 striker.

Now that Edouard is at least one of the French Under 21 strikers why don’t we buy up the new Under 19 and even the Under 17 strikers?

The French signings we have made have been a success even Jo Doumbe scored a cup wnning goal

  19. lo siento no

I have issued fingernail extraction pliers to my “team” who will visit you soon.

  20. GuyFawkesaforeverhero on

Well, in the spirit of today’s blog I’m willing to confess the thought of selling Eddy next summer leaves me petrified about our future.

  21. Both Eddie and Ajer should be asked if they’re hanging around for 10 in a row, if not, fail to plan, plan to fail. Hail Hail

Eduoard and Ajer are phenomenal talents

I think we know the future of our club now, and as unpalatable as it is

we are a selling club, and any of our promising players who sign a 4-5-6

year contract will move on, the legend days are gone, young Kieran

    proved that.

Oh ! wait we’ve still got Jamesy, although he’s not got a megaphone yet.
