Edouard pushed out Celtic transfer record

911

Celtic have activated a clause in their loan deal for Odsonne Edouard (20) with Paris Saint-Germain to sign the player on a four-year permanent contract.  The deal will cost the club an initial £4.5m but the add-ons which follow will soon make the deal the club’s highest transfer fee paid.

To give some perspective, Celtic last broke their transfer fee record with the £6m purchase of Neil Lennon in 2000.

Watching Odsonne develop during his loan period has been an education.  Brendan Rodgers put Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths on the bench to allow Odsonne the game time he needed to grow.  His early-season rustiness was history by March, when he came off the bench when Celtic were down to 10 men at Ibrox, brushed aside what defences there was, to score a memorable winner.

The last player to match our record transfer fee was John Hartson in 2001.  Like John then, Odsonne is third choice striker, so the work does not stop here.

Great business, well done all concerned.

Those vuvuzelas in the Morocco v Iran game are doing my nut in. Think I’d rather hear the monkeys singing the sash for 45mins rather than put up with that drone !

    Welcome to Eddie.

I don’t see many games in the flesh but saw him get his hat trick against Motherwell at CP – looked a very good player that day and improved as the season went on.

As a veteran of CQN, I recall some poster calling them Volvo zulus when they first appeared in South Africa 2010.

How effective is a pass? How does the data help show who the most creative players are? Which players combine most effectively? Using the concept of Packing can help answer those questions.

  8. £4.5 million for Edouard, There are add ons that could take it to £7million. It’s based on goals, champions league and if he earns a full France call up.

I’m just glad they never caught on here after the South Africa world cup.

I had to put the sound down on the telly during the first half.

Is it not in their fans culture to sing or chant ?

  11. Delighted with the signing , don’t want to sound greedy , but we need more . Last season we won comfortably in the end , but not with the style we did in the invincible season , we weren’t the same team . We need freshening , we could be better in a few positions , imo a right back , a no nonsense center half , and a tough as teak midfielder to help broony . As it stands at the moment , although early days in the window the bhoy Morgan is our only new comer . We didn,t set the heather on fire in Europe , and without quality signings we won’t this season again . But getting big Tom , and eddy long term was good business , they are two guys we didn,t want to lose ,but a cull on the dead wood would be no bad thing .

  14. Good signing, welcome on board eddie.

Would not go for mcginn and i Would be happy for amstrong to go. Ddv, Gamboa, bitton, allan, hayes, christie, millar and benyu are more than welcome to follow.

Would like to see us to us sign up

a quality rightback/ wingback and loan out ralston for season

a quality centreback and sell boyato and another

Sign up a quality attacking midfielder

Than would give us a far better squad most likely on a liwer overall wage than is currently the case, so room for improvement moving forward.

BMCUW I would also sign my Godson’s schoolmate John McGinn for Celtic. The mair fenian Bankies in the Celtic squad the better.

*I was talking to a vacationer this week that knows the Dumbarton based McGinn family well, didnae realise that he was brought up in the Holy Village. BTW is his da called Stephen.

Bankies love tae relate that Kevin Gallacher, the one that got away, had a great Tim heritage, his grampa Patsy and great uncle Empire Exhibition legend John as well as cousin Johnny who scored the first goal in our honest and truthful NIAR run.

Young John McGinn has an excellent Celtic heritage as well, apart fae his grampa being Jack, his granny could trace her DNA back tae the father of Czech fitba Johnny Madden who was the first player to kick a ball in earnest for Celtic, he was our centre forward on May 28, 1888.

  16. Can’t see any need for another winger. We’ve got Morgan and Johnson, that should be sufficient cover for Forrest. Delighted to see French Eddy signing confirmed, it’s been on the stocks for a while – cheers Lennybhoy. HH

Good to hear the ol’ vuvuzelas making a well deserved comeback on the scene. Big Pete of course tried to introduce them to the Park back in 2010 only for his message to be drowned out by the blowhards of the day. They didn’t do irony either!

Watching TV there and Raman the sports guy tells us that the Bhoys have broken our club record and signed Le Skelper for £9million .

Then onto Mr Gerard at the bigotdome talking about Huns wtf how did we not have Brendan or French Eddie speaking on news. Hunbelievable

Mon the Celts get another couple of signings in.
