Edouard pushed out Celtic transfer record

911

Celtic have activated a clause in their loan deal for Odsonne Edouard (20) with Paris Saint-Germain to sign the player on a four-year permanent contract.  The deal will cost the club an initial £4.5m but the add-ons which follow will soon make the deal the club’s highest transfer fee paid.

To give some perspective, Celtic last broke their transfer fee record with the £6m purchase of Neil Lennon in 2000.

Watching Odsonne develop during his loan period has been an education.  Brendan Rodgers put Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths on the bench to allow Odsonne the game time he needed to grow.  His early-season rustiness was history by March, when he came off the bench when Celtic were down to 10 men at Ibrox, brushed aside what defences there was, to score a memorable winner.

The last player to match our record transfer fee was John Hartson in 2001.  Like John then, Odsonne is third choice striker, so the work does not stop here.

Great business, well done all concerned.

Thanks for your post Mate. Brought back happy memories of my Dad. :-)

  3. With Eddy signed our priorities should be a Right Back and a Centre Half. Beyond that it we need replacements for any main players leaving, eg if Armstrong goes sign McGinn, if Moussa goes sign another striker, then we should sign more replacements.

One of our current CH, possibly two, can leave providing we get the one in and there’s still some deadwood that can be cleared. Youngsters like Kouassi, Ralston, Aitchison should go out on loan for the season. Mikey Johnston’s should be given the chance to take Paddy’s place in squad with Morgan’s and Christie as back up to Sinclair and Rogic. We need to give more Academy Bhoys the chance to prove they’re be good enough.

Because the referee did not make an obvious mistake – the defender sticks out his leg and CR7 accepts the invitation

Good bit of business today signing Edourd, our club will get a decent return on him in a few years and hopefully many great football moments to treasure. The beauty of it is that he’s seen the Celtic and likes it enough to sign, now he’s a proper part of the Celtic family.

I get the feeling Eden mill better start “The rebel treble” bottles soon as the demand will be high.

Ps I just thought that one up and claim the copyright me.

  8. Biggest surprise wasn’t Ronaldo going down easily, it was Ramos wasn’t the defender involved. Not like him not to be at the centre of the action!!

  9. Ah was watching Tom Devine on STV news there, it was something about a memorial for famine victims of all religions in the, Irish and Highland famine’s.

Ah wonder if its been pointed out to Trump that his ancestors were victims of Brittania’s Highland clearances ?

    Hmmmm ?

Reporting Scotland and, STV news both gave fair accounts of big Eddie’s signing, credit were its due.

Although, the start of Reporting Scotland was aboot dodgy men of the cloth :(

Ah wish we could go back to the days were, Bing Crosby and Gregory Peck were the men of the cloth, its been pish since they hung up their working garments, pure dodgy pish. Even the Presbyterian Church in the north of Ireland is ready to walk the plank for being twisted dinosaurs, pure pish it is.

Should dae away wi religion awe the gither, too many God’s canny be a good thing, too confusing, ah mean how many £millions would Jesus have spent covering up the truth, whilst folk are starving to death on the streets ?

A “real” God would put everybody on the same page, so, if yer there “real” God, let’s be having ye!

Off oot awe confused wi this God stuff :(

Dived into defender – no he didn’t

On his way down – no he wasn’t

Great bit of skill, defender put leg out into his path , what is he suppose to do, run around him? Nacho didn’t protest, he knew it was a pen. Ronaldo’ skill and speed of movement does him a disservice.

Re your post earlier and the in outs mostly agree with all you say but a bit uncomfortable about the “dead wood ” because it sends the wrong message. Some of these young players are Celtic daft and their families …… hopefully you see my point.

Perhaps just players of any age that might not make it should just be expressed as a player to move on.

It’s just an observation and no offence intended.

I am the same age as Kevin Gallacher. I played against his Saint Columba of Iona team for Saint Thomas Aquinas. Saint Tams always won, but Kevin was a standout in the Iona team.

Deadwood, a description used for players who are part of the squad but not contributing much, eg De Vries, Compper, Gamboa, maybe Britton (although I quite like him in central defence). Younger guys should go out on loan and get game time and return if they do well.

  14. Don’t care much for international fitba (any game that does not include the Celts) have to admit…this wan’s no bad . hh
