Edouard pushed out Celtic transfer record

911

Celtic have activated a clause in their loan deal for Odsonne Edouard (20) with Paris Saint-Germain to sign the player on a four-year permanent contract.  The deal will cost the club an initial £4.5m but the add-ons which follow will soon make the deal the club’s highest transfer fee paid.

To give some perspective, Celtic last broke their transfer fee record with the £6m purchase of Neil Lennon in 2000.

Watching Odsonne develop during his loan period has been an education.  Brendan Rodgers put Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths on the bench to allow Odsonne the game time he needed to grow.  His early-season rustiness was history by March, when he came off the bench when Celtic were down to 10 men at Ibrox, brushed aside what defences there was, to score a memorable winner.

The last player to match our record transfer fee was John Hartson in 2001.  Like John then, Odsonne is third choice striker, so the work does not stop here.

Great business, well done all concerned.

the good thing about Ronaldo scoring two is that, given his rivalry with Messi, you know Messi is going to want to rise to the challenge …expect a masterclass from Messi

  3. Players started this half slipping about a bit – maybe the pitch is on top of the ice rink

  4. Hope Brendan RODGERS is watching, we need a few more goals like that next season. So simple but effective.

great goal from Spain …. beautifully executed …. Silva’s free kick was perfectly weighted … Busquet times his run and jump perfectly to win the header and knock it back to Costa, who stays onside, but times his movement perfectly to get there before the defender to knock it in ….

the timing of the runs was superb … BR should make our players watch that goal a hundred times …

  8. What’s a strike from a centrenhalf playing at right back. Hope Jack Henrdry was watching

He’s never started in a winning Celtic team, scoring goals like that is the least of his worries.

  15. Saw something about Scotland possibly cohosting World Cup with England and Wales. It seemed to be taken for granted that Hampden would be the venue with Murrayfield. How could anyone suggest Hampden, unless it is going to be pulled down and rebuilt. It is an embarrassment.

Can’t get interested in the world cup as Celtic, Scotland and Ireland aren’t involved.

Anyway a wee story about the windup the Scots get in engerlund.

This was today Fri 15th, open plan office and one engerlunder piped up that all the Liverpool players were involved in the world cup except andrew robertson from Scotland. In like a flash from a gun ….. you know what he’s doing while the world cup is going on, he’s in the Scottish cricket team Skelping England lol.

The next world cup I told them we will be in it and our star is rising.

Anyway probably my only contribution to the world cup.

Commentators and pundits alike, so far overdoing it a bit with ‘sensational’, ‘unbelievable’ and ‘phenomenal’. Tabloid TV sensationalism if you ask me.

I cant recall David Coleman and co coming out with nearly as many superlatives when commentating on some of the stuff produced by Pele and Maradona at World Cups.
