Efe and Izzie getting hard time on TV

754

I was slightly miffed at Neil Lennon’s TV comments on Efe Ambrose yesterday, “He can’t cross”, but on reflection, better Neil points out the player’s flaws to the nation than gives him a ringing endorsement.  I’d a similar sentiment after Emilio Izaguirre’s dangerous looking forward step against France, which was never in danger of making contact with an opponent, when an ever-unhelpful commentator assured us Izzie, “has that in his locker”.  Anyone who has watched him for four years will know he doesn’t.

Based purely on what’s been offered up on UK TV, neither player will be attracting an offer, which is good.

Both Honduras and Nigeria have a difficult task ahead if they are to remain in the tournament beyond the group stage.  Fraser Forster’s England also have it all to do.  It’s been great for the three of them to get to the World Cup but the sooner they’re home, uninjured, the better.

    Seeing that NFL is openly talking about the weaknesses of our players,maybe he will now tell us what Sally said to him,or is that to be left till his book comes out.

  7. During the 1982 World Cup in Spain, a Spanish newspaper article carried the quote –

    ‘In a week’s time, the World Cup will be over and stars like Zico, Maradona and Armstrong will have gone home’.

    I’ve never seen a player move up above his normal level so much as the last named.

    He was useless before that WC and useless afterwards but a world beater in between.

    Good news re: JC appointment

    Fitness levels will improve, no more episodes of young boys going out on loan and being assessed by coaches as needing a pre-season, amber light for the likes of Stokes and Forrest with off-field antics as well.

    In these foreign fields we don’t get the Lineker/Lennon/Strachan show.

    We get a pale imitation fronted by fat Americans who pretend to talk knowledgably about “saccur”. Oh wait…

    Best bit in the pregame show for Argentina’s first game was when the host asked panelist and former Argentina player (Santiago Solari I think) about the Brasil V Mexico game. He shrugged and said “I don’t care. My teams about to play now”.

    Great moment of silence followed before the host asked ex player Gilberto to help him out. Another silence before the non polyglot Gilberto tried to say something sensible in English, under pressure, in front of millions on live TV. He failed – and they cut to a commercial break.

    Cant get myself too excited about John Collins as assistant to me its PL putting in place a plan B its was never the managers decision imo

  15. Old Trafford for someone’s testimonial game, Celtic fans still in the ground well after the game. Singing till the players come out to wave at us.

    Finally they come out, we are all singing for Collins, anyway he signs his name in the air, the next few days it’s announced that he has signed a new contract.

    Aulheid,

    as always, I enjoy reading your posts.

    Scottish football was faced with going from 2 ‘big’ clubs to having one big club. The former situation meant that no club outside the big 2 would ever win the league. This, as much as anything else, meant that Scottish football would never progress in any significant way.

    Decision makers were left with the reality that two would become one. That is, only one club could ever win the league. You don’t have to be clairvoyant to see that sponsorship would fall away, tv rights would diminish in value. Celtic’s own attendances might drop (and they did).

    In my view, the options were thus:

    ‘Punish’ rangers in a manner that would ensure only one club could ever win our league;

    ‘Punish’ rangers but leave them an avenue to rebuild and eventually get back to a two-team league;

    Find rangers guilty of all their misdeeds, but NOT punish them to the full, allowing them to challenge in a few years;

    Cover things up and hope they bounce back.

    Now, while I believe that a great opportunity has been missed to cleanse our game…..a one team league is not a long-term option.

    So, how do we cleanse our game, make sure the cheating never happens again, get a sense of ‘justice’……and have a league that has some modicum of competition?

    Those are just some of the competing realities that we face.

    ==========

    There are two answers one that Celtic supporters will not like.

    Both involve UEFA because the biggest skew factor is not the difference in gate money but the CL reward for reaching the group stages.

    That puts Celtic in relative terms to SPFL clubs with the last eight in the CL.

    So either allow Celtic to ply their trade outside Scotland and find their level in a much bigger pot with much greater fertiliser or spread the CL fertiliser more equitably within Scotland. Lop of £3m to £5M and give to SPFL as a solidarity payment to help keep good players in Scotland for a bit longer.

    UEFA should do this for all small countries where one club dominates.

  21. Vincent Lunny set to depart Scottish FA

    Tuesday, 17 June 2014

    Vincent Lunny is set to depart his role as Compliance Officer after nearly three years at the Scottish FA.

    He will leave the Association in September to progress his legal career by training to become an advocate.

    Vincent joined the Scottish FA from the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service in October 2011 as its first-ever Compliance Officer.

    Previously he was employed as a legal officer for the United Nations’ International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague, where he handled war crimes prosecutions.

    The Scottish FA will seek to employ a new Compliance Officer in the near future.

    Vincent said: “The last three years have flown by – the fastest three years of my life.

    “It has been a real privilege to have worked at the Scottish FA and it has been a tremendous experience.

    “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here and in Scottish football but I am also looking forward to progressing my legal career.

    “The process of becoming an advocate started back in 2005 for me, and I just completed my entrance exams in February.

    “I now have nine months of training ahead of me, commencing in October, and I am looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.”

    First of TnT’s horses wins at Ascot.

    Just need any of the next five to win to be in profit for the day.

  23. I bet Vincent Lunny thought that being compliance officer for the SFA would be an easy gig compared to being a legal officer for the United Nations’ International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague, where he handled war crimes prosecutions.

    No wonder he walked away.

  24. I reckon between now and the start of next season we will see a huge turnover of our 1st team staff

    I predict that we will go into next season confident of CL qualification – we will measurably improve

    I’m not confident of this season in qualifiers but am hopeful

    I’m happy at the changes in our management team
