EFE PLANNING TO STAY IN UK

CELTIC could miss out on a January transfer fee for Efe Ambrose because the Nigerian defender is determined to fulfil the residency requirements to obtain a British passport.French outfit Marseille as well as teams from Germany and Belgium are interested in signing the 28-year-old who is entering the final six months of his Hoops contract. But Ambrose, who joined the Scottish champions for £1million in August 2012, must remain a permanent resident of the UK for five years if he is to be granted residency and that means he will rule out a move abroad for fear it would scupper his bid for a passport.

The unpredictable centre-half remains a loan target for Championship clubs Blackburn and Wolves, but such a move would not bring a transfer fee into Parkhead coffers.

The former Ashdod player rejected a £300,000 move to Standard Leige on the final day of the August transfer window.

A late move by Schalke to sign him on a free transfer also collapsed when Celtic urged the Bundesliga club to match the bid from Belgium.
