Effective Celtic close out Rosenborg

399

It was far from pretty but it was always going to be effective.  Celtic matched whatever Rosenborg could offer in Trondheim last night to make their way to the Champions League third qualifying round.

This was not an occasion that will last long in the memory, Celtic only got their passing game together fleetingly – and not at all in the first half, but Rosenborg looked as though they could play all night and not reduce Celtic’s advantage.

What was clear from the start is that Celtic were short of options in possession.  The linking play we are used to seeing from Callum McGregor, Olivier Ntcham and Scott Brown just didn’t happen.  As a consequence, Scott Sinclair and James Forrest were offered little action, while Odsonne Eduard had a largely frustrating evening.

A significant part of Celtic’s play is underpinned by the central defenders pushing ahead of their central-mid team-mates.  This seldom happened last night, almost certainly on team orders.  Consequently, our shape was unfamiliar in possession, but better that, than leaving space to be exploited at the back.

Brendan Rodgers will be happy with the return he got from the players, but will look to stop so many crosses getting into the box, if he deploys a similar strategy again.

Next up, the seventh consecutive Flag Day!

  1. BT, was in the HCTS for many years, withdrew season before last. It’s good if you want guaranteed tickets, so long as you acknowledge that you pay for them whether or not you attend. Reason I don’t participate now is my decision not to support any matches under the SFA as a protest against the corruption and governance situation. Hope you and yours are all well. HH

  2. My thought on why Bendtner switched to the left hand side last night was that Hendry hardly won a header against him last week, whereas Ajer won nearly all of his. Of course, Hendry did much better against Bendtner last night I’m glad to say. HH

  3. One thing I have noticed about those who CONSTANTLY complain about things Celtic.

They turn any understandable criticism of their never-ending negativity into a boorish, petulant ` Harrumph! No one is allowed to EVER criticise Celtic. `

Really do appreciate your advice and am stubborn enough to get on top of this fag lark. Even my Doc said I was mad to try cold turkey and on vaping so am limiting myself to 2 or 3 cigs a day to start then vaping when I feel the urge. I will beat this though but thanks all for encouragement. Trying to find a vape juice which does not make me cough is proving difficult, onward and upward.

    Thanks

Kinglubo, Think you need to change your Doctor :-)) Cold Turkey is the only way, I’ve done it twice:-))

Joking aside, it is. I’m about three years off them and don’t feel like having one.

As for the vaping, some have been known to explode….

Happy Birthday Jamesgang – Excellent advice on the smoking.

Your next task, if you wish to take it, is to get DD off them :-))

    King Lubo,

Like all former smokers, there is a history of failed attempts.

My own view is that when the time is right, you will try and succeed.

My own victory crept up on me.

I was under pressure from my children, wife and mother in law to stop, or at least do Ash Wednesday.

Anyway about 11.30 on the night before A W, alone in the house, except for bedded children. My wife on night duty. I looked to see how many cigs I had in the packet.

    7. I smoked three of them before midnight and put the rest in a cupboard.

The next morning I decided I wasn’t going to smoke that day. Just that day.

Any time I felt like lighting up, I brought my fingers to my lips, holding an imaginary cigarette and told myself, “if I put this &8%*ing thing in my mouth, I am going to be violently sick”.

I could actually feel the nausea rising, so I believe I self hypnotised.

Another thing. I believe that somewhere along the line at the start of the battle, some incident will occur that normally would have you reaching for the packet.

Mine was when my car was stolen in Dublin after a Neil Diamond concert!

Someone rolled a cigarette to me to calm me down.

I looked at it and said, ” N-A-W, spells naw, the b’s have stolen my car, but they are not going to put me back on the fags, too”.

Never looked back after that and that was 1989.

Sorry for the self indulgence, as I cringe when I hear someone relating how they stopped smoking, etc.

But, (play the music) If I,Can Help Somebody….

  6. Carlton Tongues, seeing as you are on, did your good lady get one of those silicone ankle supports? Just came to mind as I’ve recently obtained another one! HH

  7. Would the Dons` fans be happier with a victory tonight and losing on Sunday or vice-versa?

  8. imo Simunovic cannot play on the left side of a back 3 , he is all right sided and this led to his red card in his last game when he tackled high with his right foot, also just before his red card he got away with another right footed challenge when he should have used his left.

  9. Friesdorfer

    You`ve got a silicone ankle?

Will it be displayed on the Emerald Express ?

I`ve given up on Simunovic. I thought he could become a class act but, as I said before, I feel something is not right with him. It`s as though he doesn`t want to be with Celtic.

Another thing which worries me is Broonie`s performances so far. I am used to Broonie being MotM at every Home game. He has been far from being poor in any of the Qualifying games games but, for me,something is missing at the moment. I strongly hope I am wrong or, if I am correct, it is just a temporary blip. Saturday will be interesting for me.

    JJ

  11. IMO I don’t think Broony is 100% fit, this could be what the problem is, if he isny I would rest him as much as poss, use him sparingly in the league, the CL is the priority for the club.

What was most traumatic- getting your car nicked or the Neil Diamond concert?

    A double whammy.

I blamed Neil for the loss of my car and claimed his insurance!

    No luck.

It was the same when Hilary Clinton stole my son’s bike, but that’s another story.

Have to agree with the criticism of Radio Shortbread, Richard Gordon admitted flat out he was disappointed, and the rest of them apart from our very own Packie B sounded gutted. No surprises for guessing which outcome they were hoping for. What a strange bunch, they only ever sound happy whenever we get beat, which thankfully isn’t too often.

  15. KING LUBO. went through your town last Friday travelling up the M5 from devon. the traffic started queing just before the Worcester turn off so I came off .went through Worcester and then Kidderminster and picked up the A5 at bridgnorth. then on to Cheshire so missed the roadworks.

my bold predictions for this weekend…

zombies to lose 2-1 at home today, and get papped out …

Celtic to win on the weekend, and the zombies and dons to draw.

“Finding the perfect blend of juices seems beyond me “

Easy to make your own,,very easy.

Make up a few different strengths by putting in more of the base. If you have made say 4 different strengths one of them should work. Put a sticker on each atomiser to remember how many drops of base you put in.

All of it is easy to find and if you need help just say.

However I personally think it depends on your lifestyle also. If you sit in the pub then you need to vape really as everyone around you is doing it.

Anyway here there is this miracle product,,chantix. TYpe it into google and read about it. Approach your doctor if you want to try it. If he says no I will look at trying to get some to you if you wish.

How about this,, The Harmless Cigarette. Its a harmeless vape. Wee bit pricey but works for a lot. http://www.harmlesscigarette.com
