Really pleased for Tony Ralston, who along with Kieran Tierney, is included in the Scotland squad for the World Cup. Also going are Benjamin Nygren (Sweden), Sebastian Tounekti (Tunisia), Daizen Maeda (Japan) and Yang (Korea).
The USA squad has not been confirmed yet, so Auston Trusty can still hope to travel to his home country’s tournament. Mexico have also yet to announce their final squad, but Julian Araujo made the preliminary list. If Julian makes it (and we include him as a Celtic player) that could be eight Celtic players at World Cup 2026.
Unsurprisingly, that’s the most since the last time Scotland qualified in 1998, when 10 Celtic players were in France for the tournament. Four Celtic players were in Qatar in 2022, can you name them? Two are easy, one is very gettable, but there’s one I think will challenge a few of you.

I assume we are keeping our powder dry (reminds me of PL) until after the cup final, before a response to the (as it is increasingly evident) grossly exaggerated comments on the league winning game. We must respond to this and ensure the same media coverage. Michael Nicholson, where are you? Surely, he is going.

I really don’t know too much about it. However, does it mean that anyone who ever worked in Israel, of which I know a few, can’t be associated with or even support, Celtic 🤔. Maybe I just don’t have such a lofty level of moral high ground.

And I bet they loved that Hollywood actor on the pitch with the fans a few years back at Wrexham – other fans are allowed an outpouring of joy / emotion but not us. “Celtic after party chaos is worst I’ve seen – and I’ve worked with world’s most notorious criminals”.
It reminded me of the Viz headline that the N.U.M. were paying Arthur Scargill with Nazi gold.

Here’s another cracker, from the Scotsman, which used to be a serious paper: “Celtic title win over Hearts branded as ‘brutal’ as ex-Man Utd man blasts VAR decision as ‘stupidity’”.
Obviously this suggests Roy Keane was criticising Dallas’ VAR decision. In fact, Keane said: “Why as a player, you’ve got to the last minute, would you put your hand up there to head it?” said Keane of the Nicolson decision. “I think the stupidity of players, Celtic, you’re on about handball, players jumping up with their arms, don’t give them a chance. It’s almost a lack of intelligence from players.”
He clearly said the player was stupid, not the VAR decision. The headline is not misleading, it is deliberate misrepresentation. Best ignored perhaps, but if Keane could be bothered, this is defamatory.
I can forgive Hearts their continuing emotional reaction to the experience they have endured over the last three rounds of fixtures.
They’re unused to being in this situation and their inexperience is showing through. I’m being kind. They’re hurting and don’t have the institutional maturity to manage their feelings.
The rest of the media is disclosing themselves and it’s not pretty. Gosh! Whereas Hearts have suffered a profound disappointment, the rest of the commentariat has lost all objectivity. It’s a singular failure of journalistic judgement.
Some may never recover.

The truth , of course, is that what really hurts isn’t the Motherwell penalty decision or the pitch encroachment but that we snatched the league from them when they had one hand on it before the game and practically two on it when they scored.
Everything else is just a mindless , panicked attempt to scattergun blame in a vain attempt to assuage the hurt.
I’ve news for them.
None of that is going to help.
It’s going to hurt for a long , long time ( 1986 still hurts 40 years later).
The only thing that might help is actually winning the league.
I might be wrong but the idea that they will be stronger next year is by no means guaranteed.
Losing the league , especially in the manner they did , might actually have crushed them.
In the three seasons after ‘86 they finished 5th, 2nd and 6th , in each year well behind the winners ( in those days it was 2 points for a win too).
It is objectively inconceivable that Dunfermline can beat Celtic on Saturday. Pars fans can dream and doubtless Lenny will plot, but unless we field the U19s, whether by playing beautiful, inventive football or a by more stolid means, Celtic will win the Scottish Cup at Hampden on Saturday.
Martin O’Neill will have won the Double from the most unlikely of situations.
In all of the circumstances, the club is obliged to ask him if he wants to stay on for another season, and it’s over to MON to make that decision.
There is some good reason why Celtic would want him to stay. We have a dysfunctional organisation, a board absent a Chairman and some Non-execs, a CEO in the wrong job, we have an interim football manager, a temporary coaching staff, a vacancy for head of Recruitment/Football Operations and a whole lot of new people to recruit, induct and bed in. And that’s before we start rebuilding the playing squad.
If MON stays on at least there will be some continuity in a period of extraordinary change, albeit a relatively short term continuity assuming he stays just another year.
I’m not sure MON is sufficiently close to the modern game to be much help in redesigning the football operation. It’s been a long time since he was a Premier League manager and the management and organisation of the game has changed markedly since. He has admitted as much himself.
However things play out, Celtic is at a crux. The need is for a remodelled and newly resourced football department but the sense is that there isn’t the wherewithal amongst the senior leadership of the club to deliver it. The evidence to date suggests that they lack the knowledge and the capability.
My own preference for manager is Thomas Frank, very much a practitioner of modern methods. Whether Celtic is in a fit state to accommodate him is a bigger issue in my mind to whether he is within our reach. But Frank certainly knows how to structure and manage a contemporary football club.
A fraught few months lie ahead.
It’s a really good lose lose cup final weekend for the Huns.
Celtic win and it’s a 4 trophy gap opening up over ‘the most successful team in world history ever’. Plus they will have to take cover from another Celtic. Celebration weekend.
Celtic lose and it means they start their European campaign in the Conference in mid July against some potential pre season banana skins like Gothenburg or Hapoel or even Shelbourne who will be mid season.
Dunfermline would take the Europa slot.
It also means Lenny wins which will likely annoy them as much as anything.

Thomas Frank is an interesting one.
I think its worth remembering that it was Matthew Benham (chairman) built the structures within Brentford – not Thomas – although Thomas did willingly buy into the ethos of utilising player analytics and no “dickheads” (his words).
That said, he did take a fair number of Brentford staff with him to Spurs, so I would assume a few of them might still be twiddling their thumbs.
Thomas is great with the players, fans and media – but he definitely isn’t a one man show with a wee black book full of phone numbers.

I agree. And another reason for the anguish might be that Hearts (and the tribute act ) might realise deep down that this was their best chance. We are hopefully not going to be so dysfunctional or unlucky with injuries next season.
