Eight Celts with World Cup hopes

161

Really pleased for Tony Ralston, who along with Kieran Tierney, is included in the Scotland squad for the World Cup.  Also going are Benjamin Nygren (Sweden), Sebastian Tounekti (Tunisia), Daizen Maeda (Japan) and Yang (Korea).

The USA squad has not been confirmed yet, so Auston Trusty can still hope to travel to his home country’s tournament.  Mexico have also yet to announce their final squad, but Julian Araujo made the preliminary list.  If Julian makes it (and we include him as a Celtic player) that could be eight Celtic players at World Cup 2026.

Unsurprisingly, that’s the most since the last time Scotland qualified in 1998, when 10 Celtic players were in France for the tournament.  Four Celtic players were in Qatar in 2022, can you name them?  Two are easy, one is very gettable, but there’s one I think will challenge a few of you.

TBB @ 9:46am – great stuff as always.

    Respect.

My own (uninformed) view is we need a leader of men in the manager’s seat for the next 12-18 months

… Far more than we need a tactician or technician

An Ange type would be awesome.

Rightly or wrongly, I see a couple of parallels with the covid season.

Organisationally, we are a little bit broken.

    The fix will take time.

A strong character we can all get behind could buy us that time.

    (Which, BTW, could be Martin)

Obvious difference between Covid season and this one of course?

    We are champions.

Ah finally, I’ve made it onto this Dear Green Place. What a day it was yesterday! Absolutely sublime. It may be a few days until I come back down to Earth. Loved every minute of it.

Never doubted we would do the business but an Our Father, three Hail Marys, a Glory Be and request for intervention from Our Lady of Good Success sealed the deal and Daizen scored shortly afterwards.

Must fess up here……I’m no longer a person of faith, but with 10-15 minutes to go I remembered a post from a couple of years ago from BRTH extolling the virtues of Queen of the May – 🎼 Bring flowers of the rarest…🎼 .. most people will know the one.

I couldn’t get it out of my mind, but neither could I remember the words – so I googled them including:

    Thy love and protection,

    Sweet Mother, to win;

    In danger defend us,

    In sorrow befriend us,

    And shield our hearts

    From contagion and sin

    *********

Started singing lyrics to myself in my isolated bubble.

Now, take what you like from that, but I took it as having a win and defending it against the sinful Hearts – bit of a stretch, I know, but hey-ho! Anyway, guess what happens next: Tequila Maeda and The Three Amigos!!!

Only right that I have a wee trip up to Brother Walfrid’s grave and thank him for giving us such a wonderful gift. Enjoy, Enjoy, fellow Celts.

    …………………..

Scaniel just saw your post just now. Loved it. A wee prayer or hymn silently offered up when The Bhoys are in need can often help in my experience. I did the same for all of the games after the split. I even prayed for Motherwell when they played Hearts! 😂

    I think God was listening.

Perceptions are all. The UK govt keeps fuel duty @ 52.95 per litre and claims this will “save” drivers £120 through to the end of the year. It wont. Some drivers expect that the fuel price per drop 5p per litre on the forecourt as from today. It wont.

Some on here believe it is “objectively inconceivable” that Dunfermline can win the Scottish Cup against Celtic. No. It might be inconceivable, but it is not “objectively” inconceivable.

Indeed it is perfectly feasible that Dunfermline could win the Scottish Cup, if Celtic FC go into the final, believing that it is objectively inconceivable that Dunfermline could beat them.

Took me back to my childhood when prayers were the order of the day before Big Jock arrived 🤣
